Maybe the internet is the source of all the distractions. You know what's funny? When I brought up distractions being my problem, the next day, my modem died. So all I had was my phone's internet.

But I found that with less internet instead of more, I felt a little better. Like I was more present in the world. Instead of putting off mowing the grass, I got up and did it.

I may experiment with this more. Maybe limiting my time with the internet and using it as a tool instead of passive entrainment.

Reminding people of God's warnings, IS being merciful.

Coddling people in their sin claiming they should not be warned of impending doom is being led by the devil.

These 2 sentences are for you. :funlaugh2

Mourning is no sin.

Depression is no sin.

Take Job, in his misery 3 of his friends came to comfort him.

Job 2:13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great.

Give it a try :dusted:

@Riven I’m not feeding what “Western Christians” tend to feed. I’m feeding the Messianic hope of Israel.
Matt, Why would you do this? It's misrepresenting Christianity like the JWs do.
Christians believe in the resurrection and the new heavens & earth where God will dwell with us.
You owe an apology for slandering us. Q is- will you?

N.T. Wright isn’t misrepresenting Christianity. He’s contrasting the popular belief in Western Christianity (which is primarily Nicene) with the belief of primitive Christianity. I’m a representative of primitive Christianity.

You aren’t going to heaven or to hell (Gehenna) when you die. No one is.

Relevance? The deceased little brother of @Riven isn’t in heaven, nor is he in Gehenna.

You know full well that there are various thought about the "state of the dead" before the resurrection amongst Christians, and if you aren't aware then you are paying attention! THE POINT is you slandered us because your quote makes it sounds as if we don't believe in the resurrection and new heavens and new earth and that is rubbish.
I did not think you would apologize. Whatever.

That was nothing but a drive by @Riven. Don’t allow it to distract you.

Look to scripture, not to me; nor to my enemies.

No drive by. A correction of your lie.
I will only point Riven only to Jesus Christ and the scriptures. Not to myself. The Lord will do the rest.

You absolutely do point him to your sect -calls me your enemy because I say The Lord Jesus knew that He came from heaven.

Terrible. I was on the phone with customer service with what felt like hours. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Lol.

Sorry to hear it. At least you’re keeping a good sense of humor. That’s a good sign.

It's no trouble. I prefer open discussion of ideas on such an important topic.

The “important” topic of the person who accused me: Matthias is a liar.

I don’t take it too seriously because I know the truth of the matter. You, on the other hand, should take it quite seriously.

This is a “Jerry Springer world.” Liars are talking to you. You have to figure who the liars are, without letting it entertain and distract you in the process.

P.S.

What sect have I ever pointed you to? The Messiah’s.

The important topic for me is whether or not there is anything after this life. You have told me there isn't until the messiah resurrects each person.

This view contradicts the common view that we eitger go to heaven or hell upon death. I enjoy pondering both perspectives in contrast to my own. That of course being that the most logical assumption one can make is that we remain dead forever. I use Occam's razor when dealing with competing ideas such as this.

My assessment of the New Testament writers is their narrative was what Matthias said it was: We're dead and stay dead until the Resurrection. Then we are judged. There are some notable verses that point to a possible interim state of consciousness, notably the 144,000 martyrs under the throne in Revelation, Christ's promise to the lestes on the cross,"I tell you(,) today(,) you will be with me in paradise" (depending on where English translators put the comma), and possibly the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man.

Because I handle the sound system for my church, I get to attend all the funerals (excuse me, "Services of Death and Resurrection). Yippie. I wondered why the lay-people talk about going to heaven, but the scriptures that were read talked about Resurrection. At my mother-in-law's service, my grandson (after viewing the body) asked me with a 7-year-old's innocence, "Do people in Heaven wear clothes?" I answered (citing Revelation 7:9) that we would be given white robes. My sister-in-law took the position that in the Resurrection, it would be like the Garden of Eden again, i.e. we will be naked and unashamed. The visual of my ancient sister-in-law naked kinda threw me for a loop and I didn't have a good reply. But the question led me to NT Wright's Surprised By Hope, which I do recommend.

But if such is the case, then the resurrection would be to us instantaneous upon death, right? The same as when you're out under for surgery and wake up immediately after losing consciousness.

You'd think so.

But one verse makes me wonder: Jesus, talking about the Resurrection, says "He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” (That's Luke 20:38.) God certainly knows us and God keeps us, but I can't say if we will be conscious of Him when we're dead.

And some of the testimonies of "Near-Death Experiences" also make me wonder.

The world is still full of wonder.

I don't have all the answers. (I should never admit that on an internet forum.)
