May I respectfully say, aren't these verses recorded and to be believed.....Paul is not speaking of Moses and the prophets here, is he?
Hello @Doug,

I believe that a study of the works of Moses, and the Prophets of the Old Testament would supply Paul and the other New Testament Apostles and Prophets, by the Spirit, with all that was necessary for their witness concerning the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
For it encompasses the law, the Prophets and the Psalms, which has Christ in type and shadow running through it all.

Enough is enough I think. Don't you?
I am going to give my eyes and fingers a rest.
Thank you

Maybe this helps. Often times I could see a similar line of thought regarding woman and man, Husband and wife…as Jew and gentile. Meaning sometimes I see my role in the marriage as the gentile(fellow heir) and my husband as the Jew. not literally but in respect of heirs and fellow heir. Maybe that makes no sense.

Have we spoken before?
Often, in the past, perhaps I used a different user name then.

I can't remember.
I am so tired

[Eph 5:23 KJV] 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
[Col 1:18 KJV] 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence.

The above verses shows that the church is the body

The gospels nor Acts speak of the church as being the body........only Paul calls the church the body of Christ

I dont know what else to say about this except the use of the term the body ONLY applies to the church formed thru Paul

Only Paul speaks of the mystery of the body of Christ, one new man and he does so before prison epistles
I will come back God willing. @Doug, Need a break

Within the love of Christ our Saviour our Lord and Head

The last thing I will say on this

Here is the verse again..............................
'Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren,

And by Him (i.e., Christ Jesus) all that believe are justified from all things,
from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. '
(Act 13:38-39)

May I respectfully say you just can't refute that Paul is speaking something that is not from Moses or the prophets because he is not saying something from Moses and the prophets here. This does not uphold you saying that Paul spoke none other things than what Moses and the prophets said

'And He said unto them,
These are the words which I spake unto you,
while I was yet with you,

that all things must be fulfilled,
which were written in the law of Moses,
and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.
Then opened He their understanding,
that they might understand the scriptures,

And said unto them,
Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer,
and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached
in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
And ye are witnesses of these things.
And, behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you:
but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem,
until ye be endued with power from on high.

'But I certify you, brethren,
that the gospel which was preached of me
is not after man.
For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it,
but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.'

(Gal.1:11-12)

Hi @Doug,

We know that the gospel Paul preached was 'not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.' Which is wonderful.

'Now to Him that is of power to stablish you
according to my gospel,
and the preaching of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery,
which was kept secret since the world began,
But now is made manifest,
and by the scriptures of the prophets,
according to the commandment of the everlasting God,
made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:'

(Rom 16:25-26)

* Paul here states that the the truth concerning the power of the risen Christ to stablish the believers at Rome, was not only what he preached, but was also what the Lord Jesus Christ Himself preached, and was also according to the revelation of the mystery that was now made manifest: and by the scriptures of the prophets made known. So what He said to Festus in Acts 26:22, which has caused some dispute between us, is in harmony with what he has said here.

'Having therefore obtained help of God,
I continue unto this day,
witnessing both to small and great,
saying none other things
than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:'
That Christ should suffer,
and that He should be the first that should rise from the dead,
and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.'

(Act 26:22-23)

I will not continue now with this, Doug.
Thank you for your patience

Ok

[1Co 15:52 KJV] 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I did read in Believers.com something for you to clarify. If I understand correctly, this website said the verse above is talking about the return of Christ at the end of the tribulation; specifically this will occur at Matthew 24.................[Mat 24:31 KJV] 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other..............the gathering together in this verse is what Paul is referring to in this verse
Do you agree with this?

@Doug re:- #429. #430.

'they shall gather' (Matt 24:31) related to:-

'And it shall come to pass,
when all these things are come upon thee,
the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee,
and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
And shalt return unto the LORD thy God,
and shalt obey his voice
according to all that I command thee this day,
thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity,
and have compassion upon thee,
and will return and gather thee from all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven,
from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee,
and from thence will he fetch thee:

And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed,
and thou shalt possess it; and He will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed,
to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.'

Hello @Doug,

Yet as I said in a previous post (#410), Justification by faith can be found in the book of the Prophet Habbakuk, Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just (ie., a righteous one) shall live (ie., live forever in resurrection life) by his faith.'(Hab 2:4): and is quoted by Paul in Rom. 1:17 & Heb. 10:38.

'For therein is the righteousness of God revealed
from faith to faith: as it is written,
The just shall live by faith.'

(Rom 1:17)

'Now the just shall live by faith:
but if any man draw back,
my soul shall have no pleasure in him.'

(Heb 10:38)

Hello
The only thing to consider is this verse......................[1Co 15:51 KJV] 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
Paul says our being caught up is a mystery. A mystery is hid in God. Matthew 24 is prophecy and could not contain mystery doctrine, I see it as a mystery in that nowhere could it be found or veiled in scripture which would include Matthew 24. 1 Cor applies only to the body of Christ church........it is only the body of Christ that is changed and caught up.

Hello @Doug,

When 1 Corinthians was written the truth concerning, 'The Mystery,' which was revealed to Paul alone (Eph. 3), had been hid in God since the world began, from preceding generations (Eph. 3:9 & Col. 1:26), and had not yet been revealed to Paul. So it cannot apply to that company at Corinth & Thessalonica.

1 Corinthians was written after 2 Thessalonians, which has in chapter 4 reference to the coming of the Lord, and the events surrounding it. This is what the believers at that time were looking for (1 Cor.1:4-9). All awaited the response of Israel to Peter's words in Acts 3, spoken to those men of Israel which stood before him at the feast of Pentecost. This is the hope of Israel:-

* Peter said:-
'But those things, which God before had shewed
by the mouth of all His prophets, that Christ should suffer, He hath so fulfilled.
Repent ye therefore, and be converted,
that your sins may be blotted out,
when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things,
which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.'

(Act 3:18-21)

* This is not what the Church which is the Body of Christ is waiting for, see Philippians 3:20 & 21, :-

'For our conversation is in heaven;
from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall change our vile body,
that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body,
according to the working whereby he is able
even to subdue all things unto Himself.;

(Php 3:20-21)

* The hope of the Church which is the Body of Christ already awaits in the heavens, from whence we are awaiting the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Not to be, 'revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God,' as described in 2 Thess. 1:6-7. We wait for, the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who will transform the bodies of our humiliation that they may be fashioned like to the body of His glory, If we are alive and remain: or if we fall 'asleep in Christ', then our hope is to arrive at the 'out-resurrection' that resurrection from among the dead that Paul hopes to attain unto (Phil. 3:11, 14, 20-21).

Thank you
In Christ Jesus

Hello
What verse do you have that says the mystery was not revealed to Paul in 1 Cor
Hello @Doug,

There are two verses, which I have quoted before, so you will be familiar with them, they are, Ephesians 3:9, and Colossians 1:26:-

'Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ:'

(Eph 3:8-9)

'Whereof I am made a minister,
according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you,
to fulfil the word of God;
Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations,
but now is made manifest to His saints:

To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:'

(Col 1:25-27)

* Thessalonians is the first of the epistles written at the end of AD52 or the beginning of AD53: and Corinthians was written next I believe, but the epistles in which The Mystery (revealed only to Paul) was made known, are those written from his imprisonment in approx. AD62, ten years later, along with Philippians and Colossians, Titus, Philemon, and 2 Timothy.

In AD70 Jerusalem was destroyed, Peter and Paul both having been martyred in AD67, following the writing of Paul's last epistle to Timothy, written probably in AD67. In Timothy we read of the departure of the church from the truth that Paul had revealed in the prison epistles, for in departing from him, they were also departing from the truth that he had revealed (2Tim. 1:15; 2:17-18; 3:8; 4:4)'.

* The dating I have given is taken from my Bible's marginal notes, and also from 'The Chronology of the Old Testament' by Dr Floyd Nolen Jones: which lists all the major happenings throughout Scripture (births and deaths etc.,) in a table on page 278-280.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

What is this mystery then that Paul is showing us?
'How that by revelation He made known unto me the mystery; ... ... ...
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body,
and partakers of His promise in Christ by the gospel:'

(Eph 3: vv. 3 & 6)

Hello @Doug,

The mystery that Paul made known, by divine revelation, is summed up by Paul in Col. 1, in this way.:-

'Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you,
and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ
in my flesh for His body's sake,
which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister,
according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you,
to fulfil the word of God;
Even the mystery which hath been hid
from ages and from generations,
but now is made manifest to His saints:
To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
which is Christ in
(or among) you, the hope of glory:
Whom we preach,
warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom;
that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Whereunto I also labour,
striving according to His working, which worketh in me mightily.'

(Col 1:24-29)

* The risen Christ was now, in or among the Gentiles, and He was & is still their hope of glory.

* The detail of the truth revealed by Paul though, is in the Ephesian letter from the beginning. and the prayer of verses 17-23 is vital for every believer who would fully understand it. Chapter 3 is where Paul refers to 'The Mystery of Christ' to illustrate to His readers His credentials, in order for them to receive with confidence 'The Mystery' itself that he had subsequently received, and sought to convey.

* He had the 'unsearchable' riches of Christ to make known. Riches that were not the subject of the Old Testament Prophets, as was the case with 'The Mystery of Christ', which was searchable by reference to those Prophets of old with the enlightenment of the Spirit of God:-

'Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ:

To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places
might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
According to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:'

(Eph 3:8-11)

* Forgive me, Doug, for I find it difficult to put 'The Mystery' into words, for it is the sum total of what is contained in those prison epistles, which right from the beginning of Ephesians is full of glorious, wonderful truths, revealing the blessings, which are all spiritual, and are ours in Christ. They, in themselves are unique, and the place of their future enjoyment is also unique, being in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We, who were far off Gentiles are now, united and equal to believing Jews, Israel no longer having a privileged position. All is 'in Christ' and is spiritual in nature. No longer grafted into Israel's olive tree, but part of the household of God 'in Christ' brought near to God the Father, 'in Him'.

* Israel's day will come, and they will fulfil all that God intends that they should, but during this present dispensation of Grace, salvation has been sent to the Gentiles and, 'they will hear it' (Acts 28:28).

'For now we see through a glass, darkly;
but then face to face:
now I know in part;
but then shall I know
even as also I am known.

(1Co 13:12)

Hello @Doug,

There are two verses, which I have quoted before, so you will be familiar with them, they are, Ephesians 3:9, and Colossians 1:26:-

'Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ:'

(Eph 3:8-9)

'Whereof I am made a minister,
according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you,
to fulfil the word of God;
Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations,
but now is made manifest to His saints:

To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:'

You cited Colo 1:25-27
If I am correct you are saying that when it says the mystery IS NOW made manifest, it means the mystery wasnt made known before Ephesians which was written in prison

This is not correct.....look at Romans 16
[Rom 16:25-26 KJV] 25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Paul says the mystery is NOW MADE MANIFEST.........this epistle was before prison

The revelations given Paul were progressive and might be a better explanation than saying no mysteries were revealed before prison.

'Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you,
and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ
in my flesh for His body's sake,
which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister,
according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you,
to fulfil the word of God;
Even the mystery which hath been hid
from ages and from generations,
but now is made manifest to His saints:
To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;
which is Christ in
(or among) you, the hope of glory:
Whom we preach,
warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom;
that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

'Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

'For now we see through a glass, darkly;
but then face to face:
now I know in part;
but then shall I know
even as also I am known.

(1Co 13:12)
