In 1978, the Shroud Of Turin Research Project (STURP) was formed. The team consisted of 40 top-level American scientists from such world renowned organizations as the United States Air Force Academy, the U.S. Air Force Weapons Laboratory, the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and many others (CLICK HERE to see the team). They were granted unfettered access to The Shroud Of Turin for five days and made an unprecedented scientific analysis of the Shroud, examining the cloth with the most sensitive and sophisticated analytical equipment. Their findings were based purely and solely upon the scientific facts garnered from this research. The results were surprisingly definitive.
Scientists have concluded that no one could have painted the image on the Shroud. The image has physical, chemical, and optical proerties that cannot be created artificailly. A medieval forger could not have created it, because the image of the dead man reveals details of human anatomy that were unknown before the nineteenth century. New Testament scholarship provides evidence of another type: A careful study of the biblical gospels reveals that the crucifixion and burial of Jesus exactly parallels the crucifixion and burial of the man of the Shroud.
Today, many top-level scientists are convinced the Shroud is absolutely genuine. We invite you to carefully analyze the evidence and the actual scientific findings, and decide for yourself. All we ask is that you keep an open mind, and think for yourself. If you review the scientific facts provided throughout this website (courtesy of the official STURP team findings), study the correlating historical records and consider the biblical accounts, you will find the scientific, historical, and biblical facts are all in complete agreement.
I have no reason to doubt that the shroud of Turin IS a genuine ancient burial cloth that was once covering a mans dead body.
I simply do Not have any reason to believe that shroud was the burial cloth that covered Christ Jesus’ dead body.
Three accounts in Scripture reveal an Order …
One account (of Mark, of Luke ) and of John, who present at Jesus’ Crucifixion.
Mark…15
Luke…23
John ..19
Joseph of Arimathea
(he, a Sanhedrin And follower friend of Jesus)…secured From Pilate permission to take charge of Jesus’ dead body.
Joseph and another man (Nicodemus, a recent follower of Jesus…)
Nicodemus was prepared, having with him, spices…
Mark reveals Joseph was prepared and had with him a clean linen cloth.
Together…Joseph and Nicodemus
1) Took charge of Jesus’ body.
2) Wrapped his body in linen.
3) Then carried his body (to a near by garden), where Joseph had his Own prepared unused burial cave, he was giving to Jesus for his dead body to be laid.
4) There Jesus’ body was Laid.
5) A stone Was moved to close the entrance.
6) The men left, for cause it was nearing the time the Sabbath to begin.
Wrapping, Hurriedly carrying Jesus’ body by two men…in hilly rocky terrain…would not IMO, have been particularly elegant / graceful…. But necessary.
Aside from a One piece Long linen Shroud…
Strips of Lines fabric were used To Bind the feet, hands, jaw.
The shroud itself… mystery.
One piece of fabric…
Was the body laid on the Shroud…Head at the center fold, two ends meeting at the Feet?
Or
The body laid on the Shroud…Feet at the center fold, two ends meeting at the Head?
I find no evidence mentioned or photos of the shroud of Turin… regarding the body placement ON that shroud.
It is my belief… it would be customary to place a body on a shroud with the center fold at the Feet and the Two end MeetingI]*** (at the Head…allowing the Face to be exposed, for washing, oil anointing, then covered with a separate Cloth (napkin).
Traditionally…
About the out side of the shroud… additional strips of linen would be wrapped around the body, securing the Shroud to covering the body.
Aromatic spices would be Tucked in and under the outer strips binding the shroud to the body.
In about the year 1354… “A” Shroud was “presented IN France”… along with a “claim”,
That “THAT” shroud was Jesus’ burial cloth.
Too shady IMO.
Glory to God,
Taken
