Great tribulation that occurs before Christ's returning is not God's wrath, but rather is global spiritual tribulation relating to an increased amount of deception, apostasy and wickedness. What is described in Matthew 24:15-21 (Mark 13:14-20, Luke 21:20-24) is what happened in 70 AD when Jerusalem and its temple buildings were destroyed. So, Jesus prophesied about that event, but most of what He talked about in the Olivet Discourse was in relation to His glorious second coming.
