This is a problem I have also.

I cannot buy gochugaru, fish sauce, nori, or calrose rice near me unless I order it. Or my skincare.

I need all of those. I could do without the skincare with goats milk soap and castor oil, but I won't probably. At least right now.
You so reminded me of this

Numbers 11:5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick clfhclfh

I AM NOT growing rice. I do not know how. I am not going to go get seaweed. So how do I do it? A catalog? And then what catalog would that even be? Because I know it's not Fingerhut.

The closest Asian market is an hour away. If I asked the store to carry it, I don't think they would even know what I'm talking about.

So this is my primary frustration.

I might grow the peppers. Maybe. Or find an alternative that works- and I don't care what the internet says, it is not paprika. I just want real life access to positive things without it being on the internet.
You can even buy your Calose rice in bulk, it does come in 50 pound bags. There are some people who buy a few hundred pounds of whatever their favorite rice is and put that up in 5 Gallon buckets with an oxygen absorber and sealed in mylar bags, where it lasts forever stored that way.

And you can actually make homemade Gochugaru, and there's a recipe on maangchi.com that has excellent ratings (I have watched many of her videos when I was trying to make Kimchi).

And you can even make homemade Fish Sauce

"Homemade fish sauce is a flavorful condiment rich in umami and beneficial probiotics, traditionally used in Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. It can be made at home using fermented fish and salt." Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 0 minutes (And set then set aside for 4-6 month fermentation)

But if you didnt feeling like making grow fermented fish (Ew) you could just buy your fish sauce in bulk too.

An unopened bottle of fish sauce can last for up to 3-5 years, if stored in a cool, dark place away from heat and sunlight. The high salt content and fermentation process act as natural preservatives, making it highly stable.

You can even make homemade Nori (although this doesn't seem like fun, but sure doesn't take long)

Homemade Nori refers to seaweed sheets made from scratch, offering a customizable and often healthier alternative to store-bought versions. These sheets can be used for sushi rolls, snacks, or as a garnish. The process involves rehydrating seaweed, blending it into a puree, and baking it into thin, flexible sheets.
Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 12 minutes

Personally, I don't really buy anything for skin care. If I get dry skin I use a little coconut oil or even tallow for that. But I do make my own goatsmilk soap, and so you can even do that (and its so easy too) and you can make a years worth in less than a day.

Although I do buy my goatsmilk (for my soap) from the grocery store

And I even heard growing your own rice is pretty straight forward (and easy for the most part) but I still wouldnt want to do that (because of the amount needed) but also the separating the hulls (thats a long tedious process) but you needn't grow everything (or even make everything). If you got it online, just do bulk buys so you have those things you don't want to be without.

Good news though (well, it is to me). I was gone all day, making various bootable drives and having one ear on learning Linux when I stumbled on one of their newer distributions called Zorin OS 17.3 Core (which uses Brave for its default search engine, because of its pro privacy stance). This operating system (when its installed) closely ressembles a Windows operating system layout. There was none of that Unix, "learn to code" stuff in it. I was thrilled, this has been bugging me since forever . So I made a few Zorin OS 17.3 bootable USB drives and making the switch from Windows 10 to Zorin 17.3. If anyone was looking for a Windows 10 replacement, check that one out on youtube where they demonstrate it. They have a free open source version, no email required to download, no forced updates it allows you to chose when to download and its nothing like the typical Linux distros we typically see.

I am just so excited, can you tell?pplh

I think you're right, I will need to buy in bulk. Lol I don't think I trust myself even for the fish sauce. But I will probably order from somewhere other than Amazon. Just because.

I use The Ordinary for skincare, but I am tempted next time to just go back to Canus goats milk soap, alum, and castor oil if the azeliac acid treatment doesn't do anything for redness. I can't use coconut oil because my hair and skin is low porosity and coconut oil is 5/5 on the comedogenic scale. You must be one of the lucky ones that can get away with it.

Disclaimer: I'm a beauty school mom's daughter. She dropped out due to an allergic reaction, but it means I try to care as little as possible because most of the time I think it's just too much. And for what? Lol

Amazing how we can spend so much on these things but really the most basic natural thing is sometimes the preferred one.

I might try Zorin then if I end up needing it. I get so frustrated trying to download anything on Linux. It's like trying to play a DOS game in the late 1990s.

You can do it @BlueNightingale looky, I found a video for youclfh

Salt was also used to preserve uncooked pork so it does not seem like a thing to fear, and you know I might just try the fish sauce thing, out of curiousity.

I have added castor oil to soap but not alum, I believe that is added into the lye before adding to the oils, never tried that. Have you ever tried "african soap" in the place of the azeliac acid treatment? I got my husband to try it on his upper legs where he sensitive to the material in his work uniform and would get this acne on his upper thighs, and he does not get that anymore.

There is an introducing it (the african soap) slowly period in the beginning but if you buy it on Amazon there are instructions but the stuff really works, at least in my own husbands case.

With Microsoft support coming to an end in October its a good time to download the last Windows 10 OS before they pull it from the website, or at least create an up to date system image to restore your entire system. And this Zorin OS would appear to be the next best thing for Windows users who do not want to update to Windows 11, or do not want a Microsoft account and can get updates without them being forced, and just a very familar system without dealing with the codes typical of Linux. And at least if you did not like it you would still have your Windows systme image to fall back on, but they do have a trial version you can test before installing it, or just make a bootable flash drive and boot from it, which I heard runs a little slower than the full install. I am so thrilled.
