Scripture says you have to have an interpreter if tongues are spoken.
As Ronald has said, no interpretation is needed if praying in tongues in private.

But even if there is an interpreter, interpretation of tongues is also a spiritual gift. So neither the speaker nor the interpreter will know the name of the language.

CAN YOU SPEAK IN TONGUES?

The language of the World is 'Look at how right I am....Dissension & Violence.....Gimie, Gimie, Gimme.
The language of the from above is first of all pure, then peace-loving, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.
Yes, my tongue speaks the language from above.

I pray in tongues privately which the bible says. I do not need an interpreter for that as the bible says. I do not do it often.

But as their are over 10,000 languages on earth and an angelic tongue, I can not say for sure which one I have.

Why do you insist people are not praying in tongues. For over 45 years I have been part of churches that are like you -cessassionists.

They use the same argument as you and also the fact of the gross abuse of tongues by pentecostal types. I have told them that they should leave it be. If God wants them to stop they will! If they are seeking to glorify God in their lack of knowledge, God will lead them. They do not need some person telling them they have a phony gift.
Sorry but there is no ability to speak in an angelic tongue.......you would have to show me a verse besides 1 Cor 13:1 which we already discussed....Paul was not saying he did speak with angels tongues BUT also didnt say the church could

I discussed praying in tongues in a post I will give you the link but look at this verse........................[1Co 14:14 KJV] 14 For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

You dont have scriptual support here as others say because this verse says Paul DOES HAVE UNDERSTANDING His spirit prays in an unknown tongue but he says his understanding of that tongue doesnt profit others

Could you quote that for me?
Glad to

[1Co 14:13, 27-28 KJV] 13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue pray that he may interpret. ... 27 If any man speak in an [unknown] tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most [by] three, and [that] by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

You or your teachers have misunderstood this verse:

this verse says Paul DOES HAVE UNDERSTANDING His spirit prays in an unknown tongue but he says his understanding of that tongue doesnt profit others

Even if you have a secret prayer language you should understand all thet is prayed

So according to your superior knowledge which you don't fellowship or rely on men at all, you have determined that Paul said "Though I speak with the tongues of angels and me" ,,, knowing full well that according to you we cannot speak with an angelic tongue. He just threw it out there for no reson!

you are foolish. Have the lat word, for we need to end this, you nake no sense at all with you rhuman reasonings.

The interlinear says "if in the tongues of men and angels i speak-----", as do other translations, it doesn't say "though", ehuch is a bit misleading; and its simply saying that no matter what tongues may be spoken, whether that of men or even that of a angels and have not love (charity) it's meaningless. The verse doesn't infer that angelic tongues were actually spoken. That would also be contrary to scripture which indicates the reason for other (earthly) tongues, namely, to convince the unbelievers since they would hear in their own native language what was spoken, as happened on the day of Pentecost. Furthermore, all gifts have ceased (1 Cor 13:8), and "tongues" is also referred to as an inferior gift and all such are inferred as childish things when reading the text further in the chapter (verse11). Strange that this inferior gift seems to be the only gift that's manifested today, in the form of incoherent babbling. and what people hold in such high regard.

[1Co 13:3 KJV] 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
He didnt actually give his body to be burned did he?
So why would you think he was saying he actually spoke an angelic tongue?
Paul was listing all that would be of no profit......he was speaking about charity

Well it is a first case conditional which means they are spoken.

also Paul spoke of praying in tongues and desired He would interpret what his spirit was praying. tongues edifies the believer.

1 Corinthians 14:2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

1 Corinthians 13

King James Version

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
I do not think that was intended to be taken literally (as proof that people speak in a secret language of angels) given the general "hyperbole" of the rest of the paragraph used to make the point:

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 [NLT]

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing.

Thank you.

With so very many claims being made about what "scripture says", I thought it would be useful to provide ahe actual scripture itself so any Bereans in the audience can read it for themselves. ;)

Sorry but this is metaphor and not hyperbole. Part a of each phrase is the literal, then the qualifier for the metaphor and then the metaphor.
IOW if one speaks in tongues of men and angels but don't have love it is just empty noise

If you think it is possible for “if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge” to be literal and not hyperbole, then I have nothing to offer you.

Our church fathers then were individually gifted with speaking few foreign languages and they understand them very well.

i believe GOD purposed it then so that these fathers would also translate the Holy Bible to other languages and distribute them.

Therefore also i believe the Apostles on the day of Pentecost from the housetop proclaimed the Gospel in foreign languages, too understood them well.

Therefore we can conclude that these are the 'tongues of men' gifted to proclaim and disciple the Gospel to unbelievers and beginners.

But what we read about the 'tongues' in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 to 14, is that of 'inhouse' or gathering of saints in an enclosure purposes.

Apparently a tongue or language related to the heavenly realm communicating exalting GOD together, as how angels do in Heaven.

Therefore we can also conclude that these are the 'tongues of angels' gifted to communicate exalting GOD in Heaven as in the Heaven realm.

And is also vital for the 'edification' of the church or believers or saints gathered together, and it must not cease nor forbid by GOD.

It was only that these proceeding must be conducted in an orderly fashion and not disorderly like in an asylum.

Apostle Paul brought this up because probably he'd witnessed or herd of such disorderly fashion and to bring it to order.

On the other hand, ones 'prophesying' is another equal gift with ones speaking in 'tongues'.

Shalom in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord

Well you need to look at the grammar to understand what is being said.

this passage starts with a conditional and not a fact! So Paul is saying If I could possess(and do not) ... and have not love, I am nothing.

The Construct in teh greek lets us know the difference between the 2 passages.

Tongues have ceased and are no longer needed. We have the completed word of God to be believed.

The baptism with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues is one of the three baptisms that are for all.

Having a prayer language whereby your spirit prays is a blessing that is for all the church.

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.
Acts 1:4-5

  • for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit

Here are two of the three baptisms mentioned in this verse.
