CAN YOU SPEAK IN TONGUES?

1 Corinthians 14 is all about edifying the church, not one's self

I fail to see how possession of a complete Bible makes gifts such as tongues and prophecy superfluous.

[1Co 13:8 KJV] 8 Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Scripture says it will vanish away not me......look at the verses below .......knowledge is still prevalent ......so there must be different knowledges.....the ones done away with must be by revelation not scripture.....look at the verses below

Can't say for sure, but it has a very Latinish sound to it. And I am not like the Pentecostal types who around blurtring in tongues all over the place!

That I will never know unless I'm overheard by someone who speaks the language. I know that it isn't English, Welsh, French, German, Norwegian or Russian.

And god will still forewarn individuals and even churches of things to come. Not on a canonical biblical scale, but on a personal scale. I haed been given a prophecy. I submitted it to my spiritual elders, they agreed and I read it to a group of 1100 people warning them of things to come if they did not change what they were doing. They did not and the things God said would happen, happened.

Don't be foolish Doug. God has the very hairs of yoru head numbered, and not one sparrow falls to the ground without God knowing. You think He will not forewrn His children of things that can happen or good things to come?

Now you have kiscked out prophecy and tongues, but still want to hang onto knowledge. Sorry b it is a biblical package! If one is done all three are done.

I pray in tongues privately which the bible says. I do not need an interpreter for that as the bible says. I do not do it often.

But as their are over 10,000 languages on earth and an angelic tongue, I can not say for sure which one I have.

Why do you insist people are not praying in tongues. For over 45 years I have been part of churches that are like you -cessassionists.

They use the same argument as you and also the fact of the gross abuse of tongues by pentecostal types. I have told them that they should leave it be. If God wants them to stop they will! If they are seeking to glorify God in their lack of knowledge, God will lead them. They do not need some person telling them they have a phony gift.
