The builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—
though only as one escaping through the flames. (vs 15)

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 NIV
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.
It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—
even though only as one escaping through the flames.

Context.

Paul is talking specifically about building up the church. There are some people who do it badly. They don't lose their salvation, but they will lose out on any reward. They will be 'barely' saved.

I suppose that's better than "barely damned".

Why is the builder with no good works saved? - 1 Corinthians 3:15

  • Because he believed all the right doctrines?
  • Because he was predestined to be saved?
  • Because he (or she) wasn't a homosexual? (Some say that's a deal-breaker.)
  • Because he believed God's promise and it was accounted to him as righteousness?
Isn't grace amazing?

Indeed. D- not F+

Must be equivalent to cold. Luke warm gets you spewed out.

I wonder why that didn't come up in the builder's rewards scenario?
Lack of rewards lasts for ALL eternity...
Sure it's better to be a street sweeper's lowest level assistant in Heaven than assigned to Hell....
But....
Wouldn't you rather be middle class? Especially if you had opportunity now?

Reminds me of a joke.

A wealthy man that was a generous benefactor of his church made a deal with God
to bring one suitcase with him when he passed over into the afterlife. Sure enough, on his deathbed
the man had a tight grip on his suitcase handle, ready to bring it with him.

The man appeared at the Pearly gates suitcase in hand. St. Peter said, "This is very unusual."
The man explained the deal he had made with God. "My, my." St. Peter responded.

Then St. Peter asked, "What did you bring with you from earth?" The man opened the suitcase
to proudly reveal it was stuffed full of gold bars of the purest kind. St. Peter was astonished, asking...
"Of all the things you could have brought with you, why on earth did you bring pavement?"

Salvation is not earned by works.
As for rewards, has anyone figured out what these rewards are?
I think rewards has to do with how much you loved others, how much you served, how many Christians did your works assist God in bringing them to salvation.
It could be a few, it could be thousands. So what kind of reward would be an honor and gift that a well done good and faithful servant would receive? Loved ones who are forever grateful for your love and help in times of need.
I
t could be a simple act of encouragement at the right time. That person will come to you and say, you know Ron, when I was down and lost, you seemed to say the right things at the right time when I needed it. That's a reward of gratitude..Friends and family there are our rewards. I don't know, just makes sense to me. One might say, we will all be loving eachother equally. Sure, but the gratitude and appreciation for what you did to help them along to their divine appointment will not be forgotten. Since His command is to love one another, then it stands to reason that our cooperation ( what we sow) within his plan is what you reap.

"Why is the builder with no good works saved?"

But you said you don't trust the Bible. Don't you think that those who don't trust the Bible will burn in Hell FOREVER?
