The first 11 chapters of Genesis, literal or figurative?
That gets to the point.

There isn't a single answer, and the answers aren't confined to those two options. The workS here come from periods before Israel existed. The editor (Moses?) is of Israel, though.

Genesis 1:1 - 2:4: Mythological, of Canaanite origin
Genesis 2:5 - 4:26: Euhemeric, of Edomite origin
Genesis 5: Corrupted in transmission, but the original was likely literal. Of Edomite origin.
Genesis 6 - 9: Parts can be proved to be literal. Other parts are uncertain. Of Uraritic origin, but transmitted through the Canaanites to Israel.

Why would God give us a book that is not inspired?
Maths Pi RATIO embedded in Gen 1:1orig Hebrew & Maths e RATIO embedded in John 1:1 orig Greek clearly shows the Bible is beyond the ability of man to fabricate :)

In my view, the Bible was our doing.
But that doesn't mean it was inspired in places.
