Wow, that's my story too only it was at age 35 when I became a Christian. I had communion and confirmation when I was 11; so getting out of school was just a cool thing to do, (which happened to be next door from a Catholic school). Once a week for a Catechism class and then on Saturdays, meant nothing to me. It didn't stick, it went in one ear and out the other - likely because my parents weren't believers, so they didn't share and nuture the principles of the Bible/Jesus. They just gave me a choice, go or don't go - we don't care. I should have chosen the Protestant class, maybe I would have been more receptive? Anyways, I'm good now.
That said, I do believe many Catholics can be and many are born again believers. Half of the body of Christ are Catholics, and 1.4 billion nake tha claim. As far as I know the only prerequisite to be a Christian is to believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose from the dead on the third day. They have faith in Jesus, regardless of the flaws in their religion (which do not invalidate their faith). We are all flawed sinners.

They never wanted to hear scripture because none of them knew any. From there us kids (all grown now, of course) all but one is a believer and follower of Jesus.

Salvation and receiving the gift of eternal life is all wrapped up in having a relationship with the Father and Son.

Maybe you can go back to the late 1800s and find this apocalyptic cult that failed twice to predict the end of the world and when all seemed lost found a seaman and self-proclaimed minister who said forget all that... if you tell people you must worship Jesus on the seventh day and threaten them with hell, you can make a religion out of it.

20 yrs later, i came to a crisis point and went to evangelical. Started studying john, and discovered that Jesus was God.
It took me a year to actually leave rcc. I was going to both services!

At a different forum long ago, I knew a missionary to the Mormons. He even moved to Utah to be able to minister to them.

And he did tell me about some of their secret practices including their underwear with symbols on it.

You will find that any time one brings TRUTH
and that TRUTH gets in the way of the apple of their eye , they gonna fight against it tooth and nail .
No matter what sin or lie is exposed , the one who loveth that sin or that error
will resist and accuse any who brings the LIGHT of the TRUTH whereby the darkness was exposed .
And this is not a new thing . Its been going on since nigh the beginning of creation itself .
WHY are thou angry and why hast thou contenance fallen
IF ye do well YOU will be accepted , but if not SIN Lies at the door .........
We seen it even in cain as his anger for his error was exposed and his offering not accepted .
BUT , and this is a big big ol but , DO NOT LET THIS silence you from ever bringing the TRUTH .
