I’ve heard of it. You may have heard of it. What’s it all about? What does it mean? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Is it a neither a good nor a bad trend, just a harmless silly thing? Is it in your home? It’s in our schools. It’s in our culture. Does it matter?

In this short video, Senior Pastor Nathan Bentley (Life Point Church, San Tan Valley, Arizona) addresses the trend.

The video doesn't provide any direct evidence that the 6-7 trend is demonic.

It’s difficult to find a video of Skrilla discussing his religion (Santeria) that is suitable for posting. This short clip is the most suitable I’ve been able to find for the purpose.

I know very little about Santeria. Here is a link to a source (Chapman University) which provides some basic information about the religion.

I invite anyone here who is better-informed about the religion than I am to provide additional information, or correct any information in the source I linked if it is inaccurate.

I haven’t listened to Skrilla’s music. However, it’s widely reported that many of his songs contain references to Santeria.

The youngsters say it over here, even as young as 7 , it’s just a silly thing , or at least it is with most of them. It’s just a stupid craze that’s caught on.

Skrilla appears to be serious about Santeria. Whether or not children are aware of that, I don’t know.

It may be, as you say, just a stupid craze that has caught on. (“6-7“ means nothing to me.) Do you see any potential danger with children unknowingly participating in Santeria worship?

I looked up the lyrics for Skrill’s rap song “Doot Doot” but I won’t post it. (Anyone who wants to look up the lyrics for themselves can easily do so.) I‘m confirming with this post that the song does contain “6-7” and that it is repeated several times.

I don’t think they take it seriously, or do it for any other reason that it being the ‘ In thing ‘ to say.
ok, I remember back in the 80’s when everything was considered satanic, there was a devil on every shoulder and many Christian’s were fearful of everything. Now don’t get me wrong, we of course have to take certain things seriously and we are aware of many influences. It’s where things might lead, Guess for me it’s like Halloween. Many see it as harmless fun, including many Christian’s, and they can partake in the day without it having any real influence because it doesn‘t go any deeper. Now I won’t have anything to do with the day because I know for me it would impact on a deeper level, so I steer clear.

They might not, but what if some of them do? I’m thinking teenagers more so than preteens.

If my own children are anything to go by, next year there will be a different phrase that is popular. They were always changing with regards to what were the ‘ in things ‘ to say.

Despite the rapper’s devotion to Santeria, It may be harmless nonsense the children are engaging in.

***

There is an old folk / children’s song in the US called “All Around the Maypole” and the lyrics are this:

“All around the maypole,
Maypole, maypole,
All around the maypole,
And now everybody won’t you bow?

And now everybody won’t you jump for joy,
Jump for joy, jump for joy,
And now everybody jump for joy,
And now everybody won’t you bow?”

I remember singing the song when I was a child.

What if a rapper devoted to Canaanite religion recorded the song with a few subtle changes? Let’s call it the “Doit Doit” song, and here are the lyrics:

“All around the asherah-pole,
Asherah-pole, asherah-pole,
And now everybody, 6-7, won’t you bow?

And now everybody won’t you jump for joy,
Jump for joy, jump for joy,
And now everybody, 6-7, won’t you bow?”

The song catches on and becomes wildly popular. The children don’t know anything about Canaanite religion but …

Would parents be concerned if their child (and / or other people’s children) responded to it as children are responding to Skrilla’s “Doot Doot” song?

A Catholic perspective on the 6-7 trend: A teachable moment.
