Christian who does not know what the flesh is, thinking that all evil and sin comes from the flesh. And thought that good and kind acts come from the Spirit of God. Therefore, ignorant Christian often thinks that sinning (disobedience and breaking the law) is from the flesh. Hence, most ignorant Christians associate behaviour as an indication of repentance (good behaviour equals a Christian who has repented and bad behaviour equals a false Christian who was not saved).

Have you considered this? A non-Christian (gentile) from all other religions who has never accepted Jesus, never born again, does NOT have the Spirit of God and still the sinner is capable of doing charitable works, good works, kind acts and sacrifice self for others. From this, we can conclude that the flesh (which is part of the unsaved sinner) is capable of EVIL and GOOD works.

If good works is a sign of repentance and salvation, doesn’t that qualify a non-Christian who has done lots of good work entry into Heaven? But the answer is NO. According to the bible, nothing good comes from the flesh.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

And that includes the righteous deeds and acts from the flesh.

Isaiah 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all OUR RIGHTEOUS ACTS ARE LIKE FILTHY RAGS; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away

The flesh is like a two-edged sword, sin/disobedience on one edge and good works/righteous acts on the other edge.

When you are sinning, you will feel condemn and distant yourself from God and church.

When you are doing good works and righteous, you will feel good, pride will start to increase. And you will stop depending on God until your next sin or fall.

Both sides of the flesh will cut like a two-edged sword.

What is the Spirit of God?

The Spirit of God is a totally foreign entity that is not part of us. The spirit of God has a will of its own. When a person is born again and received the Holy Spirit, it indwells the Christian.

Ephesians 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

The Spirit of God and the flesh are two different entities in a Christian. They are constantly at war with each other.

Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

How to know that you are operating in the Flesh or the Spirit?

The flesh is part of us. When we operate in the flesh, we will be depending on ourselves.

Why does the flesh sins? It is due to the lack of faith in God. When we depend on ourselves, we take the faith in God and put it on ourselves.

Romans 14:23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and EVERYTHING THAT DOES NOT COME FROM FAITH IS SIN.

Because of the lack of faith in God, we will start to doubt (whether God will or even willing to provide?).

Doubting lead to worry (we will start to formulate our own plans).

Worrying lead to fear (when our plans failed).

Fear lead to sin (we will use unorthodox methods such as lying, cheating, stealing and etc).

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Doubting is unbelieving and it ends in fear. A doubtful and fearful heart is the mother and the start of sins. In Revelation 21:8, God puts the fearful and unbelieving as the first group into hell.

Are you feeling weary and burdened to please God? If yes, then you are depending on your flesh (self-effort, self-determination, self-sacrifice and yourself) to obey. Everything depending on self is of the flesh.

During Jesus’ ministry on earth (except when he was carrying our sins), there was NO mention of Jesus feeling worried, anxious, stressed and fearful when he was facing an impossible situation with no solution. Instead, Jesus was always restful, relaxed, calm and gentle.

Why it is so? It is because Jesus did not depend on himself. Jesus did NOT plan ahead (Remember, the Holy Spirit is a different entity from our mind and body. If we plan ahead, we are depending on our own intelligence and abilities).

Mark 13:11 But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

The only preparation work that Jesus did was to pray. Jesus flowed with the Spirit of God and did what he saw his Father did through the Spirit. If God the Father completed the task, there is no doubt that it will be completed physically when we embark on the assigned task.

John 5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

Even though Jesus’ 3.5 years of ministry on earth was tough and impossible (in the eye of man), he said that his yoke is easy and burden is light. Jesus flowed with the Spirit of God and did what was assigned to him by God (there are many good works to be done but not all good works are assigned) and he did it with the empowerment of the Spirit of God (when God assign a task, he will go in advance to make preparation in the situation and hearts of the people involved.)

Have you removed your old yoke (the yoke of the law which is designed to be uphold and obey by the flesh) and put on Jesus’ yoke (the yoke of grace which is lots of prayer and flowing with the Holy Spirit and empowerment from God)?

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

I think we need to focus, on fixing our gaze on Heaven ("look up, for your redemption draws nigh" gospels, from memory). The flesh is a vessel in this life, but it is not the vessel in the next life - it is the vessel in the next life that we should be focussing on.

"You can't enjoy Grace in Heaven, unless you love the work (selah)" it is working in the vessel in the next life, that enables us to love the work. Our work in the spirit in this life, is what encourages us for the work that is to come.

God can reward us, both for work in this life and in the next, but only because they go together (selah)

The flesh sins because that is its nature and it wants to do the things of this world. It is at enmity with God and doesn't want to do the things of God or obey. It does not please God.

When someone is attached to the/this world and things in it, stuff like doubting, worrying, fearing have a place in the person and other things that are not of God. The bible says to not be conformed to the world (Romans 12:2) and to not love the things of this world, and to seek the things above, the heavenly things (Matthew 6:33), (Luke 12:31), (1 John 2:15-17) (Colossians 3:1-6).

When I read such discussions about overcoming internal weaknesses, I can't help but recall how I tried to "willpower" my way out of a failing campaign—pushing bids, changing creatives, but only further complicating the situation. At some point, I realized I was acting blindly, trying to correct a systemic error with emotion rather than logic. Then I stopped and opened up the tracking redtrack material to figure out exactly where the losses were coming from. And this strangely resonated with what I was talking about in the post: victory begins not with effort, but with understanding what exactly is going wrong.

It's easy to fall into the trap of either justifying yourself or being proud of your actions, and both extremes are equally misguided. Personal experience shows that when you rely solely on yourself, hesitation is inevitable, but when you look honestly at your motives, it becomes clearer why internal conflict returns so quickly.

Hello @alaric , and welcome. I hope you will enjoy your time here!
Ahh, the flesh vs the Spirit, good subject! It seems that many will think they are "in the Spirit" when doing nice works yet, they take the glory as the flesh is involved, agreed.

The following paragraph that you posted:
"During Jesus’ ministry on earth (except when he was carrying our sins), there was NO mention of Jesus feeling worried, anxious, stressed and fearful when he was facing an impossible situation with no solution. Instead, Jesus was always restful, relaxed, calm and gentle."

We cannot forget when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane, He had deep anguish before the cross.. so much so that he sweat as droplets of blood. He did have human reactions like we do. Yet, He kept on the course The Father set out for Him. He experienced Spiritual agony.

In Christ,
Nancy

He was tempted in all points and YET HE overcame it all . You are correct sister .
HE was made in the same flesh we are , HE OVERCAME all .
And HE is our salvation , our hope and is able to SUCCOR US through it as well .
BUT we must HEED HIM , THE SPIRIT , NOT that contrary flesh suit .
Cause that contrary flesh suit darn sure is gonna pop many a temptation into the mind .
Let our faith BE IN OUR KING . FOR IT IS HE who giveth us the pure desires and even the ability to overcome
such temptations . TO THE TRENCHES SISTER . the hour is later than when i last said the hour is late .

.I have considered this matter, and perhaps it lies in a transformation of our way of thinking.

When we look at the people around us, men or women, when we see a handsome man or a beautiful woman, our first thought from the flesh is often of sex, perhaps mingled with a hint of affection.

But if we shift our perspective, we ought to see the love that God has given us through the creation of His hands. The love of God is vividly manifested in each living soul.

Seeing from this different angle, we can perceive how abundant the love of God truly is.

Then the issues of the flesh no longer serve as an excuse for our weakness.

I think the root of our fleshly weakness lies in whether we have turned away from the love God has given us, whether we truly understand the abundance of God's love.

If we abandon that love, or if we turn away from the abundant love God has given us, then the flesh overcomes us, rather than us overcoming the weakness of the flesh.

Ignorant Christians battle sin by using their flesh

The most Basic Ignorance of people calling themselves “or” others Christian…

IS: Carnally Re-DEFINING “SIN” for the purpose of MAKING FALSE Charges …
Then buttressing THEIR Claims For themselves “OR” accusations Against others.

Facts ARE:
SIN “IS” NON-BELIEF “IN” the:
Lord God Almighty….
Any Portion of NON-Belief IN the Triune God.
* Non-Belief IN Son Lord Jesus= SIN
* Non-Belief IN Father God= SIN
* Non- Belief IN All-Mighty of Lord God= SIN

SIN “IS” ONLY AGAINST…
the Lord God Almighty

SIN “IS” ONLY FORGIVEN
by the Lord God

SIN “IS” ONLY FORGIVEN
after an Alive SINFUL man:
“Regrets” for Having NOT Believed..
AND
“ASKS” to be pardoned / Forgiven for Having Not Believed.

Holy, Holy, Holy IS He…

Have you considered this? A non-Christian (gentile) from all other religions who has never accepted Jesus, never born again, does NOT have the Spirit of God and still the sinner is capable of doing charitable works, good works, kind acts and sacrifice self for others. From this, we can conclude that the flesh (which is part of the unsaved sinner) is capable of EVIL and GOOD works.
True. But remember, all good things come from God. God can cause the unbeliever to do a good work unbeknownst to the him for God's purpose. Keep in mind, God is sovereign, so has a plan for this world and everyone in it that must include all details and acts of each individual. He allows good and evil for a purpose. He restrains it. The Spirit is called the Restrainer, Who btw will soon be taken out of the way along with the Church to start the Great Tribulation - when all hell breaks loose.
He puts the good thoughts and intentions in our minds ( whether we are believers or not) and we think it's our own idea. So you have to consider that maybe this unbeliever is on His list, a sheep to be saved later on in life OR the good deed is meant to serve another person(s) who happens to be on His list or is a believer. All thoughts are not self generated.
"GOD causes all things to work for good for those who love the Lord, for those who are called to His purpose." Rom. 8:28
Jesus/God has changed the world! His principles have permeated throughout and have been seen to work and so even unbelieving people have adopted them because they work. Of course good works don't save. Salvation is not merited by goods works; but we can say
that if a good work is genuine, God is behind it, regardless the unbelievers selfish motive - God works it for good.
Without God, man can do no good.
My parents used to say, " everything happens for the best" - and they weren't believers. My Dad used to tell us, "It is better to give than receive" - and he was an atheist most of his life. I asked him, " Where do you think that principle came from?" He thought it evolved from civilization. My mother taught us, "What you sow is what you reap" - and she had her own smorgasbord of beliefs: Reincarnation, Astrology, aliens living in a hollow earth... she was out there ... until just days before her death in her 80's, she started singing about Jesus. The point is these unbelievers believed in Biblical principles passed down to them and they were known to be loving people. My Dad was a gentleman, never said a bad word about anyone. He used to say, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything"! Heck, as a Christian, I couldn't even keep that principle.

Evidently, the process of sanctification starts long before a person's divine appointment when God actually lifts the veil of blindness so they can see and become born again. This drawing of the unbeliever may take decades. A person is not totally evil one day and then God lifts the veil the next and we see good.
So give all the credit to God for the good works you see - they all have a purpose.
Sin dwells in the members of our flesh and we all battle with that - but Jesus defeated the curse of sin for those who believe in Him. Repentance is then more of a turning to God for salvation. He'll sort out the good and evil along the way. He is the Author of our faith.
