And you have probably no idea how much damage already is done as I don't see that back in your media. Many EU countries (my own included) turn away from US, investors in America retract their money, banks, pension-funds, EU made a no-tariff deals with India and south America instead of doing business with good old USA. All because the unrest your president creates with his big mouth. That might work in real estate business, counterproductive in politics. In politics it is about trust.

Origin going Dutch - In the 15th century, the anabaptist (now recognized as baptist) were not tolerated in the majority Protestant Germany. Due to their feelings on baptism and communion, they were persecuted and sometimes put to death because they wouldn't baptize infants. At that time, the term "we should go Dutch" referred to their fleeing to Holland where their belief and practices were more tolerated. Therefore "Going Dutch" meant going the easy way.

Later - Holland has always had the custom of people being treated as equals. Therefore if two people go out for a meal and they both have an enjoyable experience they both pay half.

In my college days I was a member of the Freewill Baptist. They would treat me out to eat as a teenager. They would also combine a foot washing (pronounced foot warshin by them) with communion.
