Jewish tradition suggests that Melchizedek, King of Salem, is actually Shem, the son of Noah. As the oldest living patriarch in Abraham’s time, Shem (2448–1846 B.C.) outlived his descendants, qualifying him as a high priest who could pass the priesthood to Abraham. Noah also blessed Shem...
24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. - Genesis 9
I would believe, if Melchizedek, or the actual Shem.... Came to depart this world was in the need of passing the blessing down, in which happened on Abraham...
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: - Genesis 14
But... Was Melchizedek even human? Was he an actual Angel?
1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. - Hebrews 7
Hebrews 7:13-14 gives away the clues that were given in all the previous Hebrews 7:1-12 verses:
Heb 7:13-14
13 For He of Whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
KJV
Lord Jesus Christ, before... He was born in the flesh, was that Melchizedek of The Old Testament Who met Abraham and offered Abraham "bread and wine", symbols of The New Covenant Gospel (Gen.14). The Gospel was preached to Abraham first, Apostle Paul said in Galatians 3. Abraham believed, and Abraham's Faith was counted by The Father as righteousness. Thus all those of Faith have become the children of Abraham, Apostle Paul also said.
Thus Lord Jesus Christ represented The King of Salem (Melchizedek) before He came in the flesh, and now as the Prince of Peace (i.e., Salem, which means Peace) since He died on the cross and was raised the third day (Isaiah 9:6 where Jesus is now called the "Prince of Peace.") This is not a backwards mistake. It is to show the Divine Person of Jesus Christ as GOD The Son in the triune Godhead of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. It serves as a Testimony that Jesus is... GOD, which is why Hebrews also says all things were created by Jesus Christ, and through Jesus Christ.
