From my X / Twitter “For you” feed today -

“Is there a particular book of the Bible that you read more often than others?”

The question is drawing a good number of responses on X / Twitter. Maybe it will here too.

If there is, what book is it and why is it that you read that particular book more often than you read the others?

Interesting question: thank you.

Answer: the Psalms. After the reading the verse of the day from Biblegateway, I review a Psalm.

Peace.

For me it would be the book commonly called “The Bible in miniature” -> Isaiah.

Why? Because of its focus on the coming messianic kingdom.

Perhaps not controversial enough. What if you suggested we should all read Enoch or Thomas, along with some tongue-in-cheek reasons why?!

Blessings.

New question: what is your least favorite book in the Bible, the one you avoid reading or even thinking about?

Me: Song of Solomon.

Blessings.

My least favorite would also be Song of Solomon. Putting a positive spin on it, that’s the book of the Bible where I need to spend more time.

My second least favorite is the one that I call the “BRP Killer”.

BRP -> Bible Reading Plan

I’ve spoken with so many people over the years who’ve told me that they wanted to read the Bible from cover to cover. Excited for the long journey to begin, they do well in Genesis. Exodus starts well, but the law is looming large. Making it through Exodus, like wearily wandering in the wilderness, they come to Leviticus. This is where the going gets tough. Glancing ahead now to see how far it is to Numbers … Numbers. “If I make it through Leviticus I get … Numbers.” It’s too far to ... Numbers.

Leviticus. The BRP Killer.

Re BRP, agreed. Here is a thought that helped me: LifebibleMinistry.com. The Pastor has recorded his sermons on the compete Bible, book by book, verse by verse, at evening services at his church. They are not the deepest exegesis, but they can help to work your way through Leviticus, etc. Alistair Begg has a great series, but only 1 and 2 Samuel are complete.

Blessings!

I came to screeching halt at the Psalms, surprisingly. I can read the narrative parts, Leviticus is like going through a spec (which I have plenty of experience doing), but the Psalms are poetry and I can't just zip through poetry. I'm not wired that way.
