What Was NT Fellowship Like?

Good video. I could imagine after Christ and Penticost how the followers of Jesus met in worship and fellowship. There would have been many upper rooms. Or any secret room in a back street. Some wealthy women donated their homes for Christians to meet in.

Christ would have still been fresh in their minds. Even the gentiles were soon coming and joining in after Stephen was martyred as they seen there was something different about the early Christians. Which was th gospel that Jesus a real person who lived in their time and spoke the words and was resurrected from the dead.

It makes sense that having supper and breaking the bread would be central and everything else was added around this. This brought Christ into their midst. But also it brought followers to Christs sacrifice. For which they in turn sacrificed their lives at the same table.

I agree that many churches have become like corporations rather than the close fellowship that the early church had. I guess being a new ostracized community they stuck together and insulated themselves from the world. Apart from going out to work or preaching. I think a good deal of the churches work was in caring for the Christian community and keeping the world out.

Paul mentions that elders need to first manage their own families and have good standing in the community. Be above reproach. I think it starts with strong leadership which overseers the church. Its very hard today because its hard to tell the wolves from the sheep. Theres too many divisions and groups rather than one unified people.

I agree the church has to get the doctrine and fellowship right and the breaking of the bread is the natural culmination. Paul mentions that he taught the doctrine that had been passed and taught to him. Which is the gospel that was there from the beginning. The apostles creed was developed very early after Christ. They would have recited this over and over.

This is the central part, the spirit of worship. Especially in unifying everyone in mind and spirit. Just as each person is born again of the spirit they are united in that spirit beyond their differences. Like joining a club in some ways. But not to be exclusive or promote themselves. Just a natural pouring out of Gods spirit and all being Gods children.

I think we need to forget about all the Ted talk preaching and get back to the last supper. Get back to creating a Christian community that is different and seperate from the world and reflects Christ. Then people may become more interested instead of hating the church.

Lol its a metaphor for the type of preaching that involves politics or culture usually. TED Talks are usually in front of an audience on different social issues. They may add some science or sociology and culture. As opposed to grounding preaching in GOds word. They may even rationalise Gods word with social and cultural norms as part of making the bible relevant in todays society.

I think the most famous examples are the TV preacher types. Not too different to a TV presentation with sets and slide shows ect. Maybe an expert speaker on a specific issue. But generally speaking it seems more aligned with how secular society approaches social issues. More about persuation and salesmenship than the gospel.

I know what Ted Talks are. I've listened to a few. I just never heard of it compared to a style of preaching. Makes sense though.

IMO: if it ain't Expository preachin', it ain't right!! Take that two edged sword and do some dividing!!
