Listen to the Christian preachers whom I’ve quoted. @Wrangler has said that two of them (C.H. Spurgeon and C.S. Lewis) are his favorite Christian authors. They are giants in the Protestant tradition. Paul tells the followers of Jesus in Romans 13:1-4 who it is that God uses to maintain order in the nations of the world. It isn’t the followers of Jesus. How do we know that is true?

The merging of the role of the government with the role of the church, which occurred in the 4th century; the church-state.

The Pope running the show. (Up until the Protestant Reformation.)

You’re actually invoking Nero… a homicidal psychopath who, according to the ancient accounts, murdered his pregnant wife and then found a young slave boy named Sporus who reportedly looked like her, castrated him and then dressed him up as an empress and publicly married him.

And you want me to believe that lunatic was God’s righteous instrument against the “disobedient,” while the hunted lambs of Christ were illuminating Rome at night with their screaming, burning bodies?

Romans 13 says rulers are God’s servants for good and are supposed to punish wrongdoing. It does not say every atrocity committed by a government becomes righteous merely because a government committed it.

Romans 13 says the governing authority bears the sword; it does not say a Christian can never be a magistrate, soldier, police officer, judge, or ruler. That prohibition is coming from your pacifist reading of Paul, not from anything Paul actually says in Romans 13.

Then three verses later God says:

“I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation… for their iniquity.”

There it is.

God using a pagan ruler does not make that ruler "righteous", and it does not make every atrocity he commits an act of divine justice.

God can use evil without calling evil good.

That's exactly the distinction your Nero example erased.

What is the context of Romans 13:1-4? Was Paul speaking or not speaking about Nero and the government of the pagan Roman Empire the Christians were living under?

I got him on ignore as well. Sometimes I turn it off just to see what nonsense he is spouting or sometimes it disables itself like you said.
I saw this thread come up again so I just had to see why and it was just typical trolling by him again just trying to antagonise us.
