Praying wouldn't help, if I would do the same thing tomorrow. I don't have to worry about a repeat seeing as he died a few years ago, but it still bothers me, so I'm confessing to all of you that I lied, not what about...

Maybe now God can heal my back. No willful sin is important, but I'm mad he put me in that predicament.

Once cleansed of all unrighteousness, we literally can't sin 1 John 3:9, without experiencing a lot of grief, like I have over this one lie. This grief has to do with disappointing God, not about lying to that man, as if he was asking for justifiable reasons. No, it was mean, and that's on him. But I knew it was a lie when I answered him the same thing all four times!

I don't think you can say God was "disappointed in you", as if He didn't know what was in your heart. God already knew all about your pride and loved you anyway.

Make sure you don't compound the sin by lying to yourself about who you are and what you're still capable of.

That is another verse over-used, and mistakenly interpreted. It became that way 500 years ago by the Reformationists, Luther and Calvin. I prefer all the verses pertaining to the true meaning of why Jesus came and died for us. It was to free us from sin. The Reformationists say it was so we would not have to die for our past, present and future sins. That Jesus came to free us from punishment. Peter says our past sins 2 Peter 1:9, so show me where grace is a license to sin? Show me scripturally the phrase, "past, present and future sins."

The OId Testament commandment is about bearing false witness. Upon the witness of others a person could be executed.
On the other hand lying to trick someone was normal in the Middle East, and still is. It was/is thought trickery was a sign of wisdom.
That is why we should not attempt to negotiate with the Muslims. If we believe them, they think we are stupid.

Then again lying and deceiving is a sin in Christianity. Inappropriate questions from others....Sometimes not answering the question.....answers the question. As long as the intent is not to deceive it is alright not to tell the truth. Secret birthday parties and presents.

When it comes to not telling the truth.....intent is everything.

I didn't mean to disrespect you. I have asked forgiveness, but I also know what is written in Hebrews 10:26-31. On the other hand, he did put me in a bad position of me having to lie to keep it my business and not his.

Thank you. You know, just this minute, I actually feel forgiven when what I wrote at the end in bold came to my mind, I believe from God. Because with it came peace. Has that ever happened to you as you type. It is like the Spirit of Truth types through my hands.

I believe the commandment is about bearing false witness against another to hurt them, like in court, or to damage someone's reputation. What do you think?

What if someone asks you a personal question about yourself that is none of their business, and you don't own up to it and tell them the truth? Do we have to tell them? I remember Jesus avoided answering questions about Himself, by asking them to answer a trick question first.

Like the CIA, neither confirm nor deny.

There's no reason to feel guilty for not revealing a personal matter to someone who asks, unless... it's a loving spouse who may have a right to know.

Lying generally falls in the category of causing harm for selfish purposes, which God forbids.

But what if a lie is defense of someone else?

What we know about WWII: many Jewish residents of Germany changed their names and acquired false papers. Those in hiding relied on whatever deception their benefactors could provide.

There are many other special examples: would you lie to save someone from harm?

In the end, when we stand in judgment, we can offer what we hope are justifiable reasons and ask forgiveness.

Rehab lied (and to the king no less) and said the two spies had left when she was hiding them. She saved her whole family by doing so. What would be considered today to be treason or aiding and abetting the enemy is what saved she and her family. And in the NT she is praised for having lied.

Please help me out. I’ve read the Bible 148 times front to back and I still can’t find: “Build a Third Temple in Jerusalem.”

But I did find this:

Proverbs 30:6
“Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

Deuteronomy 4:2
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it.”

And then there’s this:

Jeremiah 23:31
“Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.”

Yet absolutely nothing anywhere saying: “Build a Third Temple in Jerusalem.”

So, chapter and verse?

Because if nobody can produce the actual verse, then somebody has been putting words in God’s mouth and presenting them to Christians as though God Himself said them.
