After your born again do you think you will never sin again?
Do you think you become a perfect person that will never make a mistake?
I make mistakes all the time, and sometimes I don't listen to the Holy Spirit prompting, and the outcome is never good. I am not a perfect person; only Jesus was perfect, but I as Paul once said:

10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:10-14

So, how does it work???

Are you saved by works and then your salvation maintained by works?
Don't have to STRIVE to be saved. Have to STRIVE to stay saved.

Luke 13:23-24
23 Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them,
24 "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

Yes, but which type? Do you know there are two? "Sin is sin" is not scriptural.

Believers commit both Mortal (sins unto death) and Venial sins as defined earlier. That's why our RCC brethren designed processes for dealing with both.

Our RCC brothers and sisters have read the Bible. On another forum, a brother challenged me to read one of the catechisms. I burned out about article 1500+, but one thing I did notice: Each and every article had a scripture verse backing it.

Sin is a lot more insidious and prevalent than you may be giving it credit for. It has many forms.

Here is a standard liturgical prayer of confession:

Merciful God, we confess that
  • we have not loved you with our whole heart.
  • We have failed to be an obedient church.
  • We have not done your will,
  • we have broken your law
  • we have rebelled against your love,
  • we have not loved our neighbors,
  • and we have not heard the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here's another one:

Most merciful God, we confess that
  • we have sinned against you in thought,
  • word,
  • and deed,
  • by what we have done,
  • and by what we have left undone.
  • We have not loved you with our whole heart;
  • we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen
Do you see all the forms that sin takes? Sins of commission, sins of omission. Sins not just of what we do, but what we think and say. And a failure to love as we ought. Sins of the heart. These have long been recognized by the brothers and sisters in Christ who came before us.

Curious about this “standard prayer”.
Are these prayers typical during a Catholic (or other denominations for instance) that members would routinely “cite together during a church gathering”?

Thanks.

Everybody sins. Christians confess their sins and receive forgiveness. Those who think they never sin may not be forgiven.
Those who believe they live a sinless, without fault or defect, flawless, absolute perfect life 24/7 (exactly as Jesus lived) are suffering from a terminal case of self-righteousness. (1 John 1:8-10) ⚠️

After your born again do you think you will never sin again?
Do you think you become a perfect person that will never make a mistake?

Only Moses Law can define your deeds as sin.

And because a born again Christian is "not under the law, but under Grace"......then the law has no capacity to judge the Christian ever again.

therefore........."where there is no Law, there is no sin"...

The Christian is only "under GRACE", and there is no MOSES Law found there.

The Christian exists "in Christ" ......= "not under the Law".

"The Law came by Moses, but GRACE and TRUTH, came by Jesus The Christ".

The Eternal Redemption that is found "IN CHRIST".........frees the Christian from the law of sin and death.

"Christ has (eternally) redeemed (The born again) from the CURSE of the LAW".........and the curse of the law is to be under the dominion of the law...

The CHRISTian is "not under the law of Moses, but UNDER (God's) Grace". = Forever. .. = "Made free from sin".

Does this mean you will be perfect regarding your behavior (If you are born again)?...........It does not.
What it means is that the law can't define you as a sinner or your deeds as sin before God, because the Blood Atonment, that is God's Grace, now and forever defines you ONLY as "not under the law, but under Grace".... "in Christ"... "one with God"..

God's Grace is "effectual"......this means it redeems for eternity, and it also changes you day by day.

Every born again Christian can say.....>>"well, im not exactly want i want to be, but im sure not what i use to be".

If you can't say that, when you look at yourself as compared to how you were before you were saved, then this is because, you are religious, and that is a problem........as being religious is what you are trying to do..........whereas Salvation is what God has provided for you for FREE that you RECEIVE by FAITH.

"The GIFT of Salvation".

The first is Methodist/Episcopal; the second is Anglican. The Methodist version is typically used as part of the Prayer of Confession during Holy Communion.

Which denominations practice confession? Co-Pilot gave me this table:

Summary Table

DenominationPrivate Confession to ClergySacramental?Notes
Roman CatholicYesYesRequired for mortal sins
Eastern OrthodoxYesYesLinked to spiritual direction
AnglicanOptionalPartiallyGeneral confession always present
LutheranOptionalNo/VariesRetained in some branches
Reformed / Baptist / Methodist / PentecostalNoNoConfession directly to God

I've attended Presbyterian, Baptist, and Methodist worship services, and there is typically time set aside for private and/or general confession. The key take-away here being that historically, our community praxis acknowledges the reality that Christians do sin in many forms.

On another forum, one lady wrote that her boyfriend was so convicted by the pastor's sermon that during the time of confession, he confessed publicly to the sin of having premarital sex - with her. The poor lady wanted to crawl under the pew and die of humiliation.

I was curious… if such prayers were “routinely” said aloud by the people present in Church.
Somewhat Equating that with having heard about “routine” call for those present to recite or read “prayers” together.??

Thanks.

God bless you.

The Methodist liturgy is recited during Holy Communion, which is typically monthly. That particular confession is one of several options. It is recited aloud communally. Whether that confession touches the heart of the one reciting it is between them and God.

Thats a good question. I recall wondering sometimes if was was truely born again. That I was a sort of Christian that was still holding back somehow and had not fully been born again. Or fully saved.

But I think that is part of the journey because now I see all that experience as getting to where I am more confident and transformed. Have a stronger faith.

I think the trials and doubts and questioning help steelman your faith. Reprove is probably a better word. Its like peeling away layers of self to become more Christlike.

I don't think being born again is some sudden change and you are Christlike. The initial commitment and accepting Christ is the start. There will be many times when you have to recommit as the spirit rebukes. Sometimes having to knock on the door several times before we are ready to open it and surrender and take the next step up.

But so long as we keep coming back to God and submitting to His will we can keep taking that next step up towards Christ. Its individual and I think we all have our weaknesses to overcome.

I think its more a disposition than (never sinning again). Its the disposition of humility and being willing to keep handing over to God. The recognition that we are weak and we cannot do it without Christ. This is what keeps bringing Christ into our heart.

The more we fill Christ in our heart the less sin can be in our heart. Until it can become a way of being that we can put those sins behind us and go to the next level towards perfection. That is good though. Our conscience is pricked and we become more God conscious that our mind and spirit are transformed.

We will always be sinners because of our falln nature. Like a thorn in our side. So long as we are asking questions, seeking God. Always including God. Never giving up on Him. Even in times where He may become a flicker. Because God will always be there in the background waiting and when we come back like the prodigal son this pleases Him a lot. We become closer and are strengthened.

praise God he was led to repentance and confessed his deed . The lady ought to have done the same .
Was nothing wrong with the man confessing his sin . the sin was what was wrong and needed repentance from it .
I am sure the lady must have felt completely caught off gaurd and etc .
But the fault was not in the convinction of the SPIRIT nor the confession of the man . it was the sin itself that was the error .
but i bet some here probably THINK the man did wrong by confessing it .

the desire is the sudden change . as in a one hundred and eighty degree change .
Though the maturing and growing in the faith does increase over time .
Now i KNOW and KNOW with zero doubt that DAY GOD reached out to me
He had put HIS CHANGE in this sheeps heart . Any guesses on what occurred .
Desires to do what pleases God was put upon my heart . And sin does not please him .
I was actually T URNED from sin unto GOD and HOLINESS . HE DID that . HE put that change in my heart .
And one more t hing . Ev erything i loved reading in that bible i believed it . I did not understand some things
But OH I BELEIVED what was written . THERE was ZERO desire to try and to twist what was written at all .
Just a hunger for truth and such a love for them h oly wo rds of GOD . DO be encouraged .
But you wanna know what the number one problem in christainity is ........
A vast majority do not BELIEVE all things written and had rather have it twisted to fit what they DO desire .
And any guesses on what it is they do desire . WELL when the words of GOD are twisted
you can bet its THEIR SIN . oh you can SURELY bet it is their sin they love and desire and will find
any way known to man to be able to feel accepted in IT , approved IN IT , justified in it . NOT gonna bode
well for those at all .

i jus want to give us all a reminder so as we do not do in error .
Many today are all about bending over to make people feel ACCEPTED .
Now would you thank me for offering a perspective that was a lie , was of anti christ .
I SURE HOPE NOT . if one be in error we dont thank we correct . WE dont have to scream
but WE DO correct . the i dea is not unity at the cost of doctrine . IT should have been UNITY OF THE HOLY DOCTRINE
UNDER JESUS CHRIST .
Just a reminder for us all my friend .

Ok thanks. Thought it was something like that.

Puzzling why a “born again” person…would state having NOT a love above all things unto God.

You cannot sin????
"Cannot sin" means you have no desire to sin. John said in 1 John 3:4-5 that the type of sin that chapter 3 is about is "lawlessness" vs. 4, and vs. 5 says Jesus takes away that sin from our nature, thus the reason why vs. 9 says we cannot sin, because the commotion it would cause in our conscience would be never ending. So we just don't murder, commit adultery, steal, lie about someone else to get them in trouble, etc because WE JUST DON'T WANT TO. Understand? Suddenly when born again we love what God loves, and hate what He hates. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and that peace is to our conscience. There is no such thing as borrowed righteousness. He makes US righteous. We, ourselves. That is also in this chapter in verse 7.

1 John 1:7 is about the second type of sin (unintentional character flaws) growing in the Spirit. Once you receive the Spirit and your life and desires have changed, as long as you abide in Him, He continues His work in your life and matures the fruit of the Spirit. But you must be abiding in Him. John 15:1-4 is about this second/lesser type of sin, but vital. Because growing to maturity all the fruit of the Spirit is what Jesus wants from us and He does the work as long as we abide in Him. This is to make us perfect/holy.
