Yes, the phrase "Χριστῷ συνεσταύρωμαι" uses the compound verb form having the prefixed preposition "συν". However, the point I wanted to make is that this grammatical usage with the verb does not restrict the noun to that single idea of "with" but allows the noun Χριστῷ without the dedicated preposition before it to have a more broader semantic range of ideas.

Let's discuss this too. Let's hope others will join in and share their thoughts.
Well, it's been a week and no responses. I'm still hoping to find some one that wants to be humored by my persistence.

Here is AI's response on the grammar of Gal 2:20, and if it supports a fuller range of semantic ideas expressed by the naked dative:

In Galatians 2:20, the phrase Χριστῷ συνεσταύρωμαι (Christō synestaurōmai—"I have been crucified with Christ") combines a naked dative noun (Χριστῷ) with a perfect passive compound verb (συνεσταύρωμαι, prefixed with σύν).

In Koine Greek syntax, a naked dative following a compound verb prefixed with σύν (or when discussing identification with Christ) can carry a fluid semantic range. The specific range of grammatical and conceptual ideas includes:

1. Dative of Association / Companionship

This is the primary grammatical classification driven by the σύν- prefix of the compound verb
  • Idea: It indicates the person with whom the action is shared or accompanied.
  • Nuance: Paul is not just crucified; he is crucified in company with or jointly with Christ.
2. Dative of Reference / Respect

The dative frequently functions to qualify the boundaries or application of an action.
  • Idea: "I have been crucified with reference to Christ" or with respect to Christ.
  • Nuance: It frames the crucifixion not as an independent, generic existential event, but one strictly bounded by, dependent on, and pointing toward the framework of Jesus Christ.
3. Dative of Sphere

Often closely tied to Paul’s theology of being "in Christ" (en Christō).
  • Idea: It defines the spiritual locus, realm, or "sphere" in which the crucifixion takes place.
  • Nuance: The death of the old self does not happen out in the world or under the Law, but exclusively within the spiritual sphere of Christ's own historical and cosmic death.
4. Dative of Interest (Advantage / Benefit)

The dative can express the person for whose sake an action occurs.
  • Idea: "I have been crucified for the benefit of or in alignment with the interests of Christ."
  • Nuance: While Christ's death was for Paul, Paul’s co-crucifixion serves Christ’s ultimate ownership and interest, transitioning immediately into the next phrase: "it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me".
Summary of the Range

While Association is the structural vehicle (demanded by σύν-), it layers overlapping implications of Reference (defining the act), Sphere (the spiritual realm of union), and Interest (the relational purpose).

Together, this semantic range perfectly supports Paul's theology of complete identification and union with Christ.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a fascinating study of the old-man being crucified with Christ all the while in unbelief. Obviously this is AI's take on it. However, it's implications are staggering.

Here is the companion text that Paul uses too:

Rom 6:6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
Rom 6:7 for he who has died has been justified from sin.
Rom 6:8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

Death of the flesh, the old man brings justification from sin. We died with Christ. And those who died will live with Him.

Amazing and beautiful at the same time.

The Bible distinguishes from the saved, regenerated person, led by the Holy Spirit, who has died to the old self ---- with the unregenegate person who walks in the flesh directed by their own desires and influenced by Satan.
We know what happens to those who walk according to the flesh.
Our occasional, temporary lapses in obedient, holy living when we backside does not mean we practice sin without restraint as we did before. We are sinners, but have been forgiven. We do not continue to live as we did before while the Lord lives in us. The Lord makes us holy, we cannot.

if you are already saved how can you be judged?

It is what faith is. That confidence, certainty of Christ's promises. Christ says if you believe in me you are saved ... not maybe later, now. We try to keep his commandments, but are human and fail. Still our faith should not waver.
Thankfully, it is a done deal, we are saved, not fully redeemed yet, but very soon.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." Rom. 8:1
do we really have salvation?

or do we have union with God in Christ by the grace of justification?

Jn 1:16

here is a start

john 1: 12. but as many as have received him, to them he gave the right to become children, even to them who believe

john 3, for god so loved the world he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will never perish, but has eternal life, for the son was not sent to judge, but that the world might be saved, he who believes is not condemned, he who does not believe is condemned already

john 4: 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that i shall give him will never thirst. but the water that i shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life”

john 5: 24 “most assuredly, i say to you, he whoever hears my word and believes in him who sent me who sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death to life

john 6: 35 and Jesus said to them, “i am the bread of life. he who comes to me shall never hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst

john 6: 37: and the one who comes to me i will by no means cast out 38 for i have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. 39 this is the will of the father who sent me, that of all he has given me i shall lose nothing, but should raise it up on the last day. 40 and this is the will of him who sent me, that everyone who sees and believes in him may have everlasting life and i will raise him on the last day

john 6: 47 most assuredly, i say to you, he who believes in me has everlasting life. 48 i am the bread of life. 49 your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 this is the bread which comes down from heaven, that that one may eat of it and not die 51 am the living bread which came down from heaven. if anyone eats this bread he will live forever

john 6: 63 it is the spirit who gives life ; the flesh profits nothing. the words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life

John 6:
54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

Those who do not believe OSAS will doubt the promises and not be fully convinced if their salvation. "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Heb. 11:1
Here is a reference study:

“And I give to them eternal life, and they shall by no means perish forever, and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father…is greater than all, and no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”"
John 10:28-29

John 6:37 says:
“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and him who comes to Me I shall by no means cast out.”

We are totality forgiven, not partially!
Jesus died for all of our sins ( past, present and future.
He remembers our sins no more.

For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Heb. 10:14

We are baptism by the Holy Spirit and this means we are sealed. No one can break that seal.
If someone falls away, they were never really saved from the beginning. Like the seeds planted in "shallow soil, the roots did not grow deep, they were not watered, nourished. They got excited for awhile, it was a half-hearted skeptical belief filled with doubts. They were not "born again".

Whoever believes in Jesus WILL NOT PERISH, AND WILL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Jesus reiterates this message over and over again: John 3:16
This is Jesus promise, Eternal Life!

"elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:" 1 Peter 1:2

We were chosen. God does not lie or change His mind.

We are saved now, not maybe, not insecure but hopeful we will be redeemed. We have been saved, are saved and will remain saved.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not a result of works, so that no one may boast". Eph. 2:8-9

In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Cor. 6:1

Jesus is the Author of our faith!
He wrote our story of how, when, where, the totality and accumulative circumstances, experiences, people coming into our lives and witnessing, ministering and preaching to us became a reality.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom. 8:38-39

And this is what he promised us—eternal life. 1 John 2:25

And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
1 John 5:11

Very truly I tell you, the one who believes
has eternal life.
John 6:47

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:13

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. John 3:36

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3

OSAS simply comes down to Jesus' promise, "Believe in Me and you will be saved."

He is the Author of our faith. So He wrote the story of your salvation.
What is faith? It is a gift, with certainty attached to it, His assurance of things hoped for. We believe that we ARE SAVED, NOT that maybe we will be saved! If you thought you could lose it, you would not be certain. Your faith would be shallow and conditional, based on your performance. In other words, a salvation by works.
" ...Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 1 Peter 1:3-4

" ...He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, Eph. 1:4-5
Our Father gives His Son His sheep, Whom He calls and they come. Would He give a gift, then take it away? If He did not know the future, He could make that error in trusting His sheep with a precious gift. Man has a way of screwing up good things, not taking care of them ... he fails to protect and secure, goes back on vows like marriage, or gets into trouble, abuses drugs, alcohol and loses everything. This is why God helps us along this path from losing Him. We may lose many things in life, but He secures our salvation. Why would He give something to someone knowing that they would recklessly lose it - if they could?
We are saved.
The Parable of the Sower of Seed enlightens us to the narrow path to heaven. The seed planted in shallow soil or rocky soil does not grow deep roots, nor does it grow to produce fruit. Only the seed planted in fertile soil grows, because it was cared for, nourished properly and produces fruit.

There will be a great falling away coming soon. Those who fall away and are cut-off and thrown in the fire, never had true faith. Whatever they have (a weak, humanly constructed facimile of real faith) will be tested and will fail when the trials in the Great Tribulation comes. The rest of us born again Christians will persevere through it all.

Death comes unannounced sometimes, quickly, but for most of us, gradually and so we are given time.
Is your hope in Jesus' promise real and secure or not?

If you are uncertain, your faith is weak, shallow and questionable - as the numerous doubts you present confirm that.

Finally, My first pastor's brilliant teaching about the Blood Covenant, an eternal bond.

Romans 2:7
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Hebrews 10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
(eternal salvation)

Faith comes by the Word. The beginning of knowledge and wisdom is the fear of the Lord. So if you don't have some knowledge of the Lord through His word, you won't fear Him nor have faith.
I see knowledge (evidence) and certainty in these definitions:
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb. 11:1 KJV

Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen. NASB

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. ESV

I think maybe those who are not born again, do not have real faith; therefore are insecure, uncertain. The questions one needs to ask themself are: Do I really know the Lord? Do I have a relationship with Jesus? Do I believe His promises? Are you certain of your salvation?
the audacious error of "faith alone"!

we can exchange an eternal weight of glory for a split second / microscopic act of "faith alone"!

and sin can have no effect on our eternal salvation, we can rob, steal, muder and kill, live unrepentant in sin and drunken debauchery with prostituts and still go winging off to heaven when we die!

no wonder scripture is filled with warning!

(((BE NOT DECEIVED)))

why cos we are deceived!

gal 6:7-8

7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

gal 5:17-21

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

(((SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM of God)))

Lk 1:75
In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

Even AI has a better grasp of this scripture than most Christians:
"
In Philippians 2:12-13, "working out" salvation does not mean working for it or trying to earn God's favor. Instead, it means externalizing, manifesting, and bringing to full expression the internal transformation God has already secured and placed inside the believer.

The Meaning of Key Terms
"Work out" (Greek katergazomai): To bring to a goal, cultivate, or let something internal come out to completion—like mining a precious resource or exercising a muscle you already possess.
"Fear and trembling": A deep, reverential awe of God's holiness rather than a panicked terror of being condemned. It reflects the gravity of treating Christ's sacrifice and new life with supreme seriousness instead of casual complacency.

Why This Matters If Salvation Is Secure
The focus is on sanctification, Not justification: The verse addresses sanctification (daily practical holiness and obedience) rather than justification (the legal declaration of being saved).
Cooperating with God: Verse 13 immediately balances the command: "For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure". The human role is active cooperation (working out what God has worked in).

>Jesus is the Author of our faith - not us.
phil 2

the virtues of faith, hope, & charity, with emphasis on humility & obedience being extolled!

thats works and not faith alone!

of course we cannot do it ourselves Jn 15:5 apart from Christ? nothing!
we need God's grace and helps, phil 4:13 in Christ? all things!

a life long perseverance does but why would having "faith alone" cos fear and trembling?

how can another care for our state unless it be a state of grace to be preserved?

19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

all manner of blasphemy and sin WILL BE forgiven all men.

Our little white lie is just as serious to God as commiting murder is.

in fact. if I know to do good and do not do it. to me it is sin.

the wage of sin is death

all three of those sins earned the death penalty..

God does not give us an out just because we think it is just a small sin

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men onceto die, but after this the judgment
Yes, but the judgment for sins ( evil) of Christians, who have been washed by his blood, has been canceled. Our judgment will then be for our deeds in which we will receive rewards based in our love that we have given, service, etc.
And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
John 1 is a powerful chapter about the deity of Christ. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. His fullness was shown.
"He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him." Believers received Him, non believers did not. So "we" obviously means Christians.

mk 13:13
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Perseverance is accomplished with the Holy Spirit. So it is just a reassuring statement of fact. Those who will persevere, will be saved because they have already passed from death to life.

heb 3:6
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Again, perseverance is by the power the God provides. Just encouragement ... as we encourage others: "Don't worry, you'll make it, have faith".
rev 2:10
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Because we are saved, have faith, are sealed, it does not mean we won't suffer or be tested. Job was.

I agree with Ronald and present 1 Cor 3:10-15
10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames.

This portion of scripture described the Judgement Seat of Christ AKA the Bema Seat. To learn more you can go here.

More encouragement, persevere and you'll receive the prize at the end of the race.
Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
Try reading the context of the chapter. Talking about widows not having faith.
and sin can have no effect on our eternal salvation, we can rob, steal, muder and kill, live unrepentant in sin and drunken debauchery with prostituts and still go winging off to heaven when we die!
Those who have been born of God cannot continue practicing sin. If you see someone doing these things, they are not following Christ.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Absolutely.
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
True
gal 5:17-21
A born again Christian will not continue on a sinful path.

The bottom line you don't seem to get is: Jesus is the AUTHOR OF OUR FAITH. Maybe you don 't really believe that?

ahh

so we have to earn salvation.. It is not by grace

got it
Sad that after 770 posts, you reset the talking point to the beginning. If your uncle gave you a billion dollars, you‘d have to do some work on your part to benefit from it EVEN THOUGH you didn’t earn the money, right?

No. that is not what scripture says

titus 3: 4 but when the kindness and the love of god our savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done , but according to his mercy he saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our savior, 7 that having been justified by his grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life

2 tim 1: 9
who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works , but according to his own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began

eph 2: 4 but god, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together , and made us sit together in heavenly places 7 that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 for by grace you have been saved through faith , and that not of yourselves ; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works lest anyone should boast
