I saw it coming, ditched the old corolla and bought a nice Hybrid, 4.8 L for 100 Km but the way to go is to buy a plugin hybrid.

I think there is a problem with oil refinery blowing up in certain countries and before the Iran war some were closed. it may explain why diesel is s expensive now but this will be used to raise the prices of everything we can count on that.Are refining bottlenecks keeping the cost of turning oil into fuel expensive? Whenever things don't add up, my first thought is someone is getting rich! My wife and I recently returned home from a trip to the Grand Canyon, and we passed a gas station near there and unleaded gas was $5.99 a gallon and diesel fuel was $7.92 a gallon.
The average is $4.50 here. The reason for the jump is because of this incredibly stupid war that we can't win. We're getting squeezed by the Houthis, an Iranian proxy. The prices are going to continue to go up the longer this war drags on.
All of this could have been avoided if Trump were intelligent. Every former president told Bibi to take a hike when he would try to drag the US into a war with Iran.
My hope is that the democrats sweep the midterms and make Trump a lame duck President. That will at least stop the bleeding and prevent him from invading Cuba or whatever other nonsense he has planned.

Prices down here have surged up in the past weeks by about 40c per litre.

That certainly plays a factor plus oil companies have not built any new refineries in years and as an oil company, you then can control how much of that product will be sold and the costs of the product. If there is an abundance of something you have lower prices. With a scarcity of something wanted and needed, you get inflated prices. When you control the amount or the availability of something to be purchased, you then control the market over the consumer. Tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, have shut down millions of barrels per day of refining capacity. It comes down to supply and demand.

The sign at the BP station said $4.169 USD/gallon. The pump itself said $4.199 USD/gallon. I guess the price keeps going up so fast, the sign can't keep up with it.

Americans on this forum are complaining? The American dollar is worth nearly $2 Australian or NZ, yet the cost of petrol is half ours. We are paying the equivalent of $4 a litre more or less, multiply by 4.5 to get one gallon, that's approaching $18 equivalent per gallon. Okay, I'm not a maths wiz, maybe skewed a bit, but generally speaking, why are you Americans complaining? Seriously?

We complain because it is DOUBLE what we are accustomed to.
We have our OWN oil, so it shouldn't be this high.
There are no valid reasons for it to be this high.
