Thanks Mary.
I've been undecided about this.
What I can't understand is how one of the commandments could be changed.

Search for the Council of Trent, then search for Cannon 29. Constantine Made a Decree, that we will no longer Judize, But we will keep the First Day, and we will work on the the Sabbath and rest if at all possible, on the so called Lord's Day. Back then around the middle of the 3rd Century if you went against the Emperor you would loose your head! so after one generation, that 7 year old child that inherited this law, when he or she started a family of their own, It was the Norm, and to this day we have the norm. Every time Israel was conquered the ruling forces would force them to eat pig, they were ordered to not Circumcise their children, and if they did the mother was put to death, and the child was hung around their neck, they were also forced to abandon their God. Also read the book of the Maccabees, it is in the Catholic Bible. So when you come to this understanding, You Will Know!! May the Spirit of Truth be with You!

Yeshua was not trying to change what Moses said and Moses did NOT change what YHWH said. YHWH gave Moses the words of Deuteronomy 24:1-4. The Jews mangled it by allowing divorce for any reason. Yeshua restored the intent of the command. The "uncleanness" of Deuteronomy 24:1 refers to sexual immorality (not just adultery). He actually upheld Moses.

We are not under the Law, but we must obey the Law. To not be "under the Law" means to not be subject to its condemnation. We are not under any of the Ten Commandments (nine according to Christians), but we must obey them. Are you free to commit adultery, murder and theft? No. Why? Because the Law remains intact and is written in our hearts. Sadly, many Christians refuse to allow the Holy Spirit to write the Sabbath command there.

I'm not sure why you brought up Hebrews 6:6, but as for Romans 5:1, I am not and never have said we are justified (made righteous) through the Law. Nor are we saved through the Law. Obedience to any Law, whether it be the Sabbath or not stealing, is a fruit of salvation, not the means to it. We are justified by faith, not Law. Even though every believer is justified by faith, they still obey nine of the Ten Commandments. The Sabbath is the problem because they have been taught FALSELY that it is changed or abolished. Satan is no dummy. The best way to get a believer to sin is by deceiving him/her into believing the Law is abolished or changed. The Law is like a mirror. When you look into it you see the dirt on your face (adulteries, thefts, idolatry, etc.), but it the mirror is broken, as with the Sabbath, then you can't see your sins against it on your face. Therefore, you won't go to Yeshua to have your Sabbath breaking cleansed and forgiven. Diabolical indeed!

I just have to Love You! I started a thread a few months ago. titled God's original Sabbath vers Sunday Sabbath, you are way better versed than myself, Council of Trent cannon 29, they just need to listen to the Spirit of Truth! This is probably the oldest man made tradition to this day! Shalom

Exo_20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Lev_20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

I find it intriguing , that the lawyers and law keepers, break the law and one of teh ten commandments by doing so, because they who are supposed to be the bride of Christ have rejected there husband "Jesus" for another womens "Israel", husband.

Exo 31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
Exo 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

and

Rom 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
Rom 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

And the breaking of the law is death, there is no grace for the law breakers.

Gal_2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Gal_5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

God bless

Again, see post #53 for my understanding of verse 16-17. As for verse 14, the "handwriting of requirements" is a terrible translation. The Greek word "cheirographon" (handwriting) refers to a certificate of debt. In this case it was man's debt to sin. The Greek word "dogmasin" (requirements) refers to man made dogma/ordinances. In many cases, such ordinances cause man to sin. Such was the case in Matthew 15:1-9 where the Jews were exalting their traditions over the commandments of God. Christians make the same mistake by exalting their tradition of Sunday Sabbaths over YHWH's 7th day Sabbath. Verse 14 has absolutely nothing to do with YHWH's commandments except for the fact that the cheirographon was the result of breaking His commandments.

I read post#53 and disagree. You said: ""No one", in that passage, refers to people outside the Body of Messiah."
It seems obvious to me he is referring to believers.

Everything you say is true.
I'm confused about this matter. I sure hope God judges us on our love for Him and not on our doctrine or on what day we worship.

I also had checked out the Didache and it just says the Lord's Day.
In many places in the NT, Acts, it says they worshipped on the Sabbath.
Some theologians even believe that Jesus resurrected on Saturday if you move the day of death to Thursday.

Thanks for the post.

Love and attack are two words that do not belong in the same realm....One is of God, one is not

Attack is 'of God' also. Swords are for attacking.
From Ephesians 6: 17. "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;.."

You just cannot cease to personally attack Sabbath keepers. I know of no Sabbath keeping believers posting here that have rejected Messiah Yeshua. You do Satan's work to accuse the brethren falsely.

Yes, the Sabbath is a "perpetual covenant" aside from the Old Covenant. It is also a sign given by our Creator that we may know it is He (YHWH) who sets us apart (sanctifies us) from the rest of the world (verse 13). Why would anyone in their right mind want to do away with such a blessed sign?

You err by not knowing Scripture and by taking this passage out of context. This passage is only the beginning of Paul's argument which continues throughout chapters 7 & 8. In Romans 7:21-23, Paul identifies the law he is referring to.

Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind (the law of God/Torah), and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

It is the law of sin that we must die to before we can marry Yeshua.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yeshua hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Once we are freed from that other law, we can marry Yeshua. We then become spiritually minded people in contrast to those that are still carnally minded people that refuse to subject themselves to the law of God/Torah.

Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

You better hope there is grace for law breakers because you are the greatest law breaker of all since you profess to have no law, not even New Covenant law.

Again, you take Paul's words out of context. He is not saying we frustrate grace by obeying the law. He is saying we frustrate grace by seeking to be justified/made righteous by our law keeping instead of being justified by faith. It is faith that causes the fruit of our salvation to come forth, that is, obedience to the law. That is why Paul said, "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." Romans 3:31

I also had checked out the Didache and it just says the Lord's Day.
The dating of the Didache is questionable. The generally accepted dating is between 90-100 CE, but that is still questionable. However, even if true, Paul died well before that and he said grievous wolves would enter in after his departure and would not spare the flock. Add to that the false teachers, false prophets and the mystery of iniquity, all of which were active in Paul's day, and you have ripe atmosphere for the lie of a Sunday Sabbath to enter in.

Also, the English translation of it and the omission of certain words from its source material make the Lord's Day issue very questionable. All that matters is that YHWH commanded Israel to obey it (even before Mount Sinai), Yeshua's example of keeping it, the Apostles example of keeping it, and the fact that there is no command by the Father, Son or an Apostle to either change the Sabbath to Sunday or abolish it altogether.

Add to that the historical evidence that reveals that Sabbath observance was still practiced by the majority of churches well into the 6th century. And beyond that by the Celtic church in Britain, the Waldenses, and the Assyrian church of the east.

Hi GP
I'm aware of the above. The day was changed because Jesus was resurrected on Sunday, if that's even true.
I tend to believe that Jesus is our Sabbath rest. The same way He covers for our sins, He'll also cover for this if I and many others have misunderstood.

The fact that he covers our sins does not give us liberty to break the law (sin). We are not permitted to break any of the other nine commandments simply because he covers our sins. Nor should we break the 4th. As I said to pia, "We have a spiritual rest and peace through Yeshua, but we do NOT have a physical Sabbath rest through him. That can only come through the Sabbath rest which forbids us to do physical work."

I am bemused by a common argument used against the observance of Sabbath; that is that ” Jesus is now my Sabbath rest” because this or that one has ceased from his own works. The insinuation is that those who do observe the Sabbath as a day of rest according to the commandment, have not ceased from their own works.
My question is this, though it seems obvious to me: how can anyone observe the day as a Sabbath, without ceasing from his/her own works?

As a corollary to this, can we observe any commandment without ceasing from our own works? Does not death to self and the infilling of the Holy Spirit create in us the image of Christ? Is this not called sanctification? And because we are transformed into the image of Christ, would it also not be in conformity to the law that Christ wrote on the tables of stone, and which He now writes on the tables of our hearts? We can’t accomplish this without surrender ; without ceasing from our own works. Sanctification is simply that. The changing of the life through the grace and power of God to make it conformable to God’s standards of righteousness. And Ezekiel tells us that by being willing to observe the Sabbath, the day, we are acknowledging that it is God Who is doing the sanctifying, and not we ourselves. (Ezek. 20:12) So by keeping the Sabbath, it is actually a sign we have indeed ceased from our own works, and trusting in Christ’s working in us His righteousness.

2Co 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Further to this, no Christian I know of whatever denomination, would suggest that because Jesus fulfilled the law, it is now legitimate for Christians to commit murder, because they are no longer under the law. That would surely be quite preposterous. Yet we constantly witness claims by many that because we are not under the law, we are no longer obliged to honor it. This is so incredibly inconsistent. The reason I am not under the law is not because the law has been done away with, but because the blood of Jesus has released me from it’s condemnation. That however does not release me from it’s power to convict me again of sin should I choose to disobey it.
This also applies to the 4th commandment. Just because Jesus fulfilled the law by keeping the Sabbath, , (that is He kept the law, obeyed it and thus magnified the law making it honorable) that does not release me from my obligation to keep the Sabbath, magnifying it and making it honorable. (See Isaiah 58:13,14.) If obligation makes anyone feel uncomfortable, sorry, but I would use that same word for every one of the ten commandments. We are obliged to love our neighbor and thus not commit adultery, not covet, not steal, not get angry and kill, and respect and honor our parents. We are also obliged to love God by confessing Him as the One and Only true God, Maker of heaven and earth, and all things therein. Because He is our Creator, He has sole rights to our worship, our fidelity and service. That is why we shun idols. It is also why we would not dare to use His name disrespectfully. It is also why we choose to honor that day which recognises Him as our Creator, and brings to our remembrance why He deserves our worship, and why the whole law and our keeping it is a recognition of His authority in our lives.

To my mind the only arguments against the observance of Sabbath are ones of subjective interpretation, an example of which is the aforementioned “Jesus is my Sabbath rest” argument. There is simply no scripture anywhere in the Bible suggesting that by accepting the rest that Christ offers us through the blood of His cross, and the forgiveness of sins, replaces the Sabbath commandment. By placing such an interpretation on scripture, by reading into scripture such an understanding where no clear instruction exists, we are adding to the word of God and we are placing our own authority above God’s.
