John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.

4 In Him was life, and that life was the Light of men.

5 And the Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.

The Bible is God's inspired(God breathed) eternal living Word to mankind not the teaching of "A" church. Many "church" teachings are man's teachings. So many "churches" have become little more than simi-private social clubs. Beware!!

Kind of sounds like you think that verse reads:
1 In the beginning was the Bible, and the Bible was with God, and the Bible was God.
What do you think this scripture is saying??
John 1:1-5

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.

5 And the Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.

If anyone memorizes a Bible verse, [any one verse chosen], is it automatically alive within him?

John 1:1-5. What it means to me.....

There always existed the word of God. The word of God are his internal divine thoughts and expressions put into action. All things existing or ever existed was created by the word of God. The word of God also produced the light for mankind; the plan of eternal life and salvation through Jesus Christ (verse 14). This light was revealed to the 'fallen' world of mankind and unfortunately, it did not understand it.

Bless you,

It's meaning is made clear a few verse further down in v 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I shudder to think how many poor, deluded souls have memorized THIS one:
Luke 14:26 King James Version (KJV)
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

I'm guessing you don't know what John 1:1-5 means? If you did you would THEN understand verse 14 and not the other way around.

Indeed, some verses read or memorized without understanding from God could lead to serious consequences.

Please understand that I am not suggesting that memorizing scripture is wrong. On the contrary, but memorizing a dead thing that stays dead in us is likely to kill us or others around us who are vulnerable.

What was it that became flesh? Was it the pages of a book written down by men, even if the words in the book were written by men as they were inspired by God to do so? I would think not...

Don't guess, make statement based on what people have said or ask questions.

V14 shows that v 1-5 are about Jesus.

As far as I'm concerned it is referring to Jesus.

Agree...The Word was from before the beginning...then He spoke it into existence...
I like to think that The Father thought it, The Word spoke it, and the Holy Spirit performed it.

As far as I could see you didn't ask a question.

To answer your question.

It is not clear in John 1 v 1-5 just who or what John is writting about untill one reaches v 14, then it becomes clear that he is referring to Jesus.

Have you heard this one?

Teacher says to her class...What one of the ten commandments relate to our parents?

Class.......Thou shalt honour your mother and father.

Teacher....Is there one that relates to your brothers....?

Class......Thou shalt not kill.
