I'll bet it's beautiful there! Post a pic of the landscape if you have one.
I'm on a phone right now.
Will get an image from Google...
This is a lake about 30 minutes from home...

Oh, my! Do you take visitors from the U.S.? LOL

Those mountains are very interesting--different from the Appalachians close to where I live.

Come on over. It's nice.
Are you a transplanted America, or Italian or from somewhere else? I hope I'm not being too nosey. Just tell me MYOB if you don't want to answer.

I was just telling someone on another thread that I once sang in an Italian opera. I remember very little of it, though.

Yeah, I can see that the mountains in your pic look kind of like the Rockies. The Appalachians are less rugged looking, and they're covered with Pine trees and tall hardwoods--very pretty in the fall.

Puccini, huh? I was in a Verdi opera. We dressed up in colonial type dresses and had very big hair and a lot of makeup. LOL

Yup, I'm a transplanted Texan living in the Southeast....

(1) I am glad to see that you have faith in the fact that you have all the correct books in the NT you are quoting from. Did you know that your faith is based on the Tradition of The Church?

(2)
Please do not twist scripture. Scripture says take it to the Church NOT to the congregants of that local body. Did you forget about the Council of Jerusalem and how they found their decision good to the Holy Spirit and binding on ALL Christians? THE CHURCH decided, not each local congregation. If one was to use your theory then that means that each "congregation" that teaches abortion or gay marriage is ok and they can back it up using scripture then their decision (the local congregation) is acceptable to the Holy Spirit and binding on all Christians. Taking scripture into context and referring to historical Christian writings on this matter, we can see that your theory is clearly wrong

(3) I refer you back to #1. If you don't put your faith in men then how do you know you are quoting from the correct books? If you don't put your faith in men how do you know who wrote those books? If you don't put your faith in men how did you come to YOUR translation of scripture which is clearly different then many other translations? If you hear and accept the Truth and I hear and accept the Truth and both our truths are DIFFERENT and we both had the Holy Spirit guiding us then which one of us three is confused? You? Me? The Holy Spirit? How about if we follow scripture and agree with it: The Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth.

(4) You stated
"I thought we were to be followers of Jesus, that is WHO I put my faith in ony Him. NOT the church or other mere humans". You then quoted Colossians 2:8. So I asked you: If I am to make sure that no one takes me (Marymog) captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy (Colossians 2:8) how can I be certain that you (Nancy) are not the one trying to make me captive with your philosophy? (since what you stated is your philosophy)

You said you put your faith in Jesus, NOT The Church or mere humans. Does that mean you will never be captive to hollow and deceptive philosophy but I will since I rely on The Church? You are relying on your own philosophy to say that you will not be captive to philosophy....Which makes you captive to your own philosophy. But that's ok because you don't rely on the philosophy of men or The Church?

Mary
"(1) I am glad to see that you have faith in the fact that you have all the correct books in the NT you are quoting from. Did you know that your faith is based on the Tradition of The Church?" Do you not understand that Christians ARE the "Church"?
Of course I have faith in the books of the bible being correct, if they are not in there, God does not WANT them there.

"
(2) Please do not twist scripture. Scripture says take it to the Church NOT to the congregants of that local body." First off, I do not twist scripture! If that were to happen in m church, one brother or sister would approach to one in error...if he does not listen then, you bring in 1 or 2 more (...by the mouths of 2 or 3 witnesses) Then my church would bring that person to the pastor WITH the board members present. And, the board members ARE the congregants and they ARE part of the body of Christ-His Church.

I do not know why you seem to assume I am somehow trying to "convince" you of anything! I do not do that. But boy, you sure seem to be trying real hard for me to see things your way. Lol. Prayer. Holy Spirit. Bible. Faith. And if ALL you have is Jesus then you have all you need. I am way too busy in my life right now and have zero desire to do back and forths. That is so old I could spit.
God Bless and take care.

I'll give you one Mary.
Jesus still on the cross because he is sacrificed daily in the mass. He never gets off the cross.
Protestants take Jesus off the cross because he has risen and we celebrate the life in Christ, not his death daily as catholics do.
Couldn't have said it better and with so few words Rollo :)

Mary, sometimes I've gotten the impression that you're copying BOL's way of interacting with people on this forum. It's really not the best way to relate to people, IMO. One thing to consider is that some of us are quite a bit older than you (I'm guessing). Showing some respect to people who are older is not a bad idea.

Oh, well thanks for noticing my absence ♥ have been pretty busy and, probably will be for awhile. I miss coming on her more often. :)

Hi brakelite,

WHO, in your opinion, decides which "tradition is fine"? Since you don't like the CC tradition, WHO'S tradition do you agree with?

You could give me a glaring example....but you didn't!! I'm curious. What is that "glaring example"?

Mary
I didn't bother giving you that example because I doubted it would accomplish anything... Even protestants continue the same unbiblical tradition. Many have debated the issue for centuries, so I don't think mentioning it here would bring any light to your mind. Suffice to say... It is a Catholic tradition that the Catholic church admits is not to be found in the Bible. It is a tradition that replaces ancient Christian practice (apostolic practice) with a counterfeit . Of course Rome claims that she had the authority to change anything... Even the commandments of God. So to the Catholic mind, my example would be no big deal.

Hi B,
In post no. 277 you said this to @Marymog :
I could give you one glaring example where tradition has done that... Even your own church admits it, making the church the ultimate authority over scripture.

I'd be very interested to which dogma you're referring...
IOW, what is the CC teaching that even the CC admits is wrong???

Especially in view of the fact that you believe even Protestants continue in the same unbiblical tradition...

I lived in NYC. The Catskills look like the mountains by you.
And there's nothing like fall in the Northeast and probably the Southeast too, although I've never seen it. Here the trees just give up and die!

I've never been to the Northeast, but I've seen pics of the Catskills. They look beautiful.

It's sad that you don't get fall color where you are. What kind of trees cover the mountains there? I don't know if we're going to get much color this year. The weather has been very strange. We usually have peak color the end of October, but it's just now getting cold enough to make the leaves change.

I don't know!
A lot of pines that stay green all year.
Lots of chestnut trees.
A tree that makes a beautiful white flower in the spring and is all over...
And, "regular" trees that turn brown in the fall and then the leaves fall off.

evergreens
chestnut trees

the white flower tree (they're edible)

Oh, and let's not forget the cypress trees!

and the ever-present "umbrella" tree...

Oh my, I almost forgot the olive tree---good olive oil !

I think that's it...

You have some very interesting looking trees there! Too bad you don't have maples. Those are the trees around here and probably in the Catskills that turn such beautiful colors--bright yellow, orange and red.

I was raised Catholic. The RCC history is a mess wrapped in an enigma. Mary, for instance, was only recognized as "immaculate" in 1854. Reading the bible was forbidden even into the 20th century. And the mass was said in Latin for at least a millenia where no one could understand the rituals. Can you say...bizarre?!!

Yes, I can say your statement is BIZARRE!! Reading the bible forbidden??? It is hard to take you serious when you make statements like that. First off the bible wasn't even available to the average person until the printing press was invented. Second off a large portion of the population couldn't even read. Third off it was illiterate so even if they did have the bible in front of them, the wouldn't be able to read it and wouldn't understand it. It was AFTER the invention of the printing press, which happened around the time of the Reformation, that the average person was able to afford bibles (supply and demand drove down the cost) and people started becoming more literate. It was then that every person with a bible in their hand thought they could interpret it better than the church leadership (Protestant and Catholic) ESPECIALLY since the Holy Spirit was personally guiding them. Hence, with those two events happening at the same time in history, The Church began splintering into thousands of churches, even to this day. If you knew your own Christian history you would know that even Martin Luther complained about this....and he was on of the catalyst for it. But you didn't know this....Did you?

Do you know WHY The Church declared her Immaculate in 1854? Google it so you don't rely on historical Mary for you answer. (I prefer BING, it earns me points )

NOW, back to the original questions (that were based on your false statement) THAT YOU DODGED: The mass started in the Dark Ages? Did the Dark Ages start around the year 150AD?

Based on the evidence I gave you are you even going to acknowledge that your statement about the mass starting in the dark ages was not accurate? Or are you going to pretend the evidence is not there?

Curious and patient Mary
