Metanoia is a journey of changing one's mind, heart, self, or way of life. In the bible it is translated as "repentance."
Metanoia means "after-thought."
But it is more than a one-time event or action. Repentance is a process of going from being carnal to being spiritual in Christ. We are to be renewed in our minds...transformed into a life that resembles Christ in every way.
So much of the Christian life is a process. People like to say they have arrived at salvation or conversion. But these are in fact just steps in a journey that take us to a full stature in Christ. A race isn't finished until the end....otherwise there is the certainty of disqualification. We will need perseverance to see the process through to completion.
No one knows what it takes to grow in Christ at the outset. No one knows the mind of Christ in the early stages of the Christian walk.
So then metanoia (repentance) is the change that must take place for us to appropriate the mind of Christ. It is a common error to declare the process complete long before a person has reached a constant walk in the Spirit'
We are to be as pilgrims in this world...being transformed in our way of thinking as well as in our lifestyle....after having received of the new divine nature.
So then ALL things are become new. And this renewal needs to not just have a beginning....with what God has given to us as a free gift. We need to move into His new life ...by grace through faith...until we are nothing but Him, so that it is no longer we....but Christ.
Until then we must continue in "metanoia"....repentance, or the journey that transforms our minds and ways and brings these to the very likeness of Christ.
