In this new year 2019, the passage of time reminds us that young people turning 18 - when many acquire their first ink as adults - were born in 2001 (the year of 9/11).

The years have moved on considerably.

So has tattoo culture moved on also and broadened considerably also from a strongly male military and biker ethos years ago...to a viable witness means among Christians for both genders today?

Agree? /disagree?

(Honest and respectful comments, please.)

If you want to portray the message that sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law but under grace, then I can see how it might be a good fit.

But if you are more interested in exalting the law to make it honourable, as a schoolmaster to lead men to Christ and through which is the knowledge of sin (see also Matthew 5:17-20), then it might not be the witness that I, as a believer with that in mind, would want to set forth to people, whether inside or outside of the body of Christ.

Thoughtful comment; thank-you.

Since multiple votes were allowed, I voted both "Yes, I agree" and "No, I disagree." :confused:o_O:)

@Naomi25 : FYI: thread from an historical angle; plus poll. (I think you have some definite - if not strong - views...)

Actually...no...no real views and/or opinion on this. I suppose it could have some witness avenues. But I'm so out of this "loop" that I really can't comment.

It's fair to say that over the years and decades perceptions of tattoos can change considerably. FYI:

Leslie Daniel said:
I cried when my daughter got her first tattoo, Now she is a tattoo artist!
We were so proud of our daughter who graduated with a degree in biology and was a zoo keeper at a zoo close to us. ..
She is now a very successful tattoo artist and yes… I have a tattoo! .. I have a very different view of that culture now, I’m so proud of her work, she is an amazing artist! I am still growing in this area
