Having never really given it much thought I thought I’d study a bit and see if I could offer some possibilities. The following are only possibilities and opinions.
Revelation 10
1. Who is the mighty angel, his feet on the sea and the earth ?
Rev. 10:1 – “
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:”
I think it may be Jesus. As stated the face was too bright to be recognizable but check out these two verses which are both descriptive of various aspects of Jesus, imo.
Ez. 1:28 – “
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.”
Rev. 1:15 – “
And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.”
In Ezekiel the angel did not reject his worship her calling him Lord. Regular Angels never allowed that.
2. What is the little book ?
Sweet and bitter.
Rev. 10:2 – “
And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth.”
When I think of sweet and bitter I think of good news and bad news. One of the definitions of bitter in the dictionary is: “causing physical or
mental pain and discomfort” so at first what is in the little book is good news, sweet to hear and taste but that is followed by heartbreaking bad news which causes bitterness and anguish. What could cause something like that? The answer may be tied closely with your 4th question. (4. The mystery of God when is it to be finished? The
good news is that the mystery of God is finished! What is this mystery?
Eph. 3:4-6 – “
Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.” The next question could be why is the book little? I think the answer could be found in this verse: Matt. 7:14 – “
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
So, my opinion is that the little book is a smaller version of the Book of Life containing the names of all the gentile Christians from the beginning to the end. I think the bad news is that the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled, no more shall be saved, the mystery of salvation being offered to the gentiles is done! When you consider all those left who will be eternally lost, you get a realization that can bring heartbreak, bitterness and despair. This also answers question (5. Time no longer? What is this about ? The door of salvation for the gentiles is done for this age.
Further identifying the angel as possibly being Jesus is this verse that is similar to
Rev. 10:5-6 – “
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, 6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer.”
Dan. 12:7 – “
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” I think it possible that the “man” in Daniel could have been Christ.
3. What is the seven thunders message? Yes it is sealed, but will it ever be opened, if so, when ?
I don’t know and I don’t think anyone else does either. I do believe that in God’s timing at some point in time of the latter days that the understanding of what the seven thunders said will come to many by the Holy Spirit.
Another possibility to Jesus being the identity of vs. 1 comes from vss. 8-10. The word “angel” is used but it could also have been translated as “messenger”. If we accept that as a possibility than these two verses might come into play. Mal. 3:1b – “…
and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.”
1 John 3:11 – “
For this is the message (commandment)
that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”
6. How does
Revelation 10 fit in between the 6th and 7th trumpet time frame, even before the 2 witnesses Rev.11?
Instead of asking this as a question, change it into a statement:
Revelation 10 fits in between the 6th and 7th trumpet time frame. How is yet to be determined.
