1 John 3:9-11
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

Romans 7:16-20
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Ephesians 4:22-24
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

After God, that is, according to God's pattern.

And so whosoever is born of God sins not.

The Scriptures speak for themselves.

Your mission . . . put on this new man, and let that be life, the abundance of walking in Christ.

Much love!

1 John 3:18-23
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

1 John 4
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.

If our heart condemns us, that does not change reality. God knows those who are His, and our own confusion doesn't become His.

But if our heart condemns us, we can lose our confidence with God.

We are aware that we commit sins. And if we say we do not? Paul stopped short of that (1 Cor 4). He wrote that only Jesus was fit to judge. So how can we even know? To say we never commit sins? Hubris, in my opinion.

In Jeremiah's words, "our iniquities testify against us", in . . .

Isaiah 59:12 "For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;"

We know them. But we must not own them. Not anymore.

Colossians 2
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

We've been separated from our body of death in the sins of the flesh, the flesh body, by joining Jesus in His death. We've been given a new life completely separate from our body, a new spirit life, being born the spirit child of God, John 3, that which is born of Spirit is spirit.

He's forgiven us everything, all sins removed for all time, our record of debt is blank, wiped clean.

And we are new creatures who are not even able to sin.

Whoever is born of God sins not.

So without any record of our former sins that are past, and without any condemnation for anything going forward (Oh No! That means you can just sin all you want! - That's right . . . we are freed from sin, and don't have to anymore), without any condemnation, there is nothing to hinder our awareness of His presence and love.

Much love!

The Scriptures speak for themselves.

"Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God." Luke 3:38

So then would we say that Adam, the son of God, as result of his disobedience [sin] was disinherited? Are we in a better place than Adam or is God a respecter of persons?

Or could we also be disinherited if after being His son, we sin...?

Or could it be that some who say they are "born again" [born from above] have not yet passed through the birth canal and received the breath of Life from God?

1John1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him ( that is Jesus ) out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Well do you sin, or do you lie and claim that you do not sin!

How do you reconcile the bibles frequent claims that we are sinners, that our nature is to sin.

Personally I pay attention to 1John1:10 see above and seek to live for Jesus.

The precise reason we need to be born again, and receive new natures that are able to overcome by the grace and power of He Who recreates us in the image of Christ.

Hi Windmillcharge,

(love that name, btw . . .)

Who is the sinner?

Ephesians 4
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;

21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

There is the old man, the one born out of the Adamic creation.

There is the new man, born from God.

The old man is corrupt, and always sins, and we are to 'put off' that man.

The new man is righteous and holy, made patterned after God, sharing His nature. We are to 'put on' that man.

We commit sins when we stop asserting our control of our flesh. Given the opportunity, our flesh will do what it always does, commit sins.

We have power over our flesh to make it do our will, which is our Father's will. Our will, I say, as the spirit children of God.

The mind of the flesh continues to cook right along, and I think we simply mistake it's thoughts for our own. The better we know the Bible, and the more practice we have, the better we will detect when our thoughts are drifting into flesh thoughts. From our thoughts come our feelings and words and actions.

We are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10).

But we recognize that we have be crucified - separated by death - to the man of flesh, the sinner. We are to control our flesh by living in the power of the Holy Spirit. We will only receive reward for that which is done in the Spirit. Thankfully whatever that was done in the flesh will be burned away, for our God is a consuming fire.

By focusing on "not sinning", we end up examining our lives to determine frequency and depth of sin, imposing a "Shalt not" mindset, which inflames the flesh towards more and bigger sins. Law empowers sin.

But in walking in the Spirit, which, being God's spirit children, that is our nominal state, in the Spirit. So we focus on that, and on our race, looking at the finish line, looking to Jesus, Who both began and will complete our faith.

Much love!

We have been set free from the noun sin. Because of our flesh, we still sin, the verb. But we have the power to sin not. Otherwise, Jesus would not have told Mary, who the pharisees wanted to stone, "Your sins are forgiven you, go and sin no more." This means we have the ability not to sin. I personally am not there yet. Lol. Jesus even said that there would be people who would do greater miracles then He did. You can only do that walking in the Spirit, and you can't sin walking in the spirit. Our flesh chooses too when we are carried away by our own lusts.

How do you see this scripture?

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.
ROMANS 6:15‭-‬19 NASB

The Bible says there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1). To me, I believe these verses point to not sinning, for our own sanctification, which is how we grow closer to the One who loves us and died for us. As we renew our mind in the Word as Marks' verses talk about he shared, we should lose that desire to sin. If not, I would question if that person truly was a believer to begin with.

Yes it is, munch-ity, munch, munch! :)

It’s the digesting part that seems, for me, to be the slow part. But I’m-a asking, I’m-a seeking, I’m-a knocking. My heart is set on knowing Him personally, so to Him I look, and I have His promise(s).

Blessings,

That is OK, but you failed to answer any of my questions which were essentially Bible based. You may not be able to answer them and that is OK, but if you could at least say that it would be appreciated.

Essentially Bible based?

I'd find it helpful if you were to give an indication of where in the Bible your are thinking of.

You may not be able to answer them and that is OK, but if you could at least say that it would be appreciated.

I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, don't you think?

Let's get to actual Scripture questions.

So then would we say that Adam, the son of God, as result of his disobedience [sin] was disinherited? Are we in a better place than Adam or is God a respecter of persons?

We can start at the beginning.

I'm not able to think of a place in Scripture which teaches about Adam's inheritance from God, and what the disposition of that inheritance is. If you can point me to the Scripture you have in mind, let's discuss it.

Much love!

Consider what Adam had prior to his disobedience. He had Life which could have become unending Life had he chosen to eat of the Tree of Life instead of disobeying God. Instead of Life he chose death. He lost his inheritance. He disinherited himself and all of his offspring. Is this not all in the scripture? God removed Adam and Eve from the garden where the Tree of Life was because they had disqualified themselves in God's eyes. Until Jesus opened the Way to the Tree of Life again it was closed.

Hi Mayflower,

We are under grace, which means we don't have to sin. The Law was given to bring the knowledge of sin (Rom 3:20) and to increase sin (Rom 5:20).

Before we were slaves to sin, and lived according to that. We couldn't stop sinning, because it was who we were.

The body of flesh is hopelessly corrupted, and by serving sin, we live out that corruption. But in Christ we are created new people, the children of God, who have never sinned, never will, and are not corrupted. Furthermore, we have God's power in us, rendering us able to control our flesh bodies.

We were the slave to sin, hopelessly corrupt, now we are the slaves of righteousness, created according to God's pattern in righteousness and true holiness. Having a new nature, a new being, that is righteous and holy, now we are slaves to that nature.

This is where free will is highly overrated in my opinion. I want to be a slave to righteousness.

Life works the same way as it always did. When we yielded to sin, it just got us deeper and deeper into its corruption.

Now we are to yield to righteousness, specifically present our body parts to be used for righteousness, knowing that in the same was that sin kept getting worse, so now righteous living increases with the increase of God as we submit ourselves to Him.

There isn't any condemnation towards the new you, because the old you is already condemned for it's works, which are not yours.

Romans 7:5-6
For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

The motions of sin, which were by the Law. God's Law moves our flesh to sin. But the Law is given to the Lawless (1 Timothy 1:9), to the people of the Adamic creation, the men of flesh.

As God's spirit children, this isn't us.

Realizing that we are done with the Law, dead to the Law, disempowers the Law to work the motions of sin in our flesh. Knowing the Law is finished with me, having already died, the punishment of the Law, but in Christ, the grace of the Gospel, knowing this truth releases us from the way the Law pushes our flesh to defy it.

The flesh is hostile to God (Romans 8:7), seeking to disobey. The law defines what that disobedience is, and the flesh zeros in on the target. "I didn't know lust, but the Law said Do Not Covet, but this brought all manner of concupiscience." (paraphrased, Romans 7)

All this to say, we've truly been freed from sin. We don't to ever. We always seem to sometimes. But we don't have to, and I can prove it.

Next time something contrary happens, fix your mind on Jesus, look to Him for deliverance from the sin the circumstance tempts you with.

"Pain in tooth . . . fear of loss . . . fear is sin . . . I need not sin . . . Jesus is my Faithful Creator . . . He made me because He loves me . . . all things serve His love for me . . . pain in tooth . . . welcoming the gift."

There is no need for, "Don't be afraid, you're not supposed to be afraid. This only hightlights the fear. Instead, reframe, I'm God's child, and He won't forsake me, so nothing is going to happen to actually truly hurt me.

The without the Law pushing at my flesh to sin, and with trust in God for all I need, then I need not take any self-interest, God will provide. I need not concern myself with acceptance, I'm accepted in Jesus. I could go on, but I suspect you know these things. Just the same, thank you for asking!

Much love!

Consider what Adam had prior to his disobedience.
Adam was not stupid. Quite the opposite. And yet he acted stupidly. He did not lack for a single thing, but he had to go taste of the forbidden fruit.

Did you want to discuss a particular passage? About Adam's inheritance?

I prefer discussing this things based on particular passages. You can take time to collect together ones you may have in mind.

As I'm reading your words, it seems to me that you are making an argument that we can lose our salvation.

Adam lost his inheritance, therefore we can lose ours. Is this what you mean to say? If I'm mistaken, just let me know, I don't mind.

If so, my reply would be from Peter:

1 Peter 1
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Much love!

And so have been many of us stupid until we saw the Light and made a choice toward Him instead of away from Him.

I don't believe Amadeus is saying that at all. Adam lost his privileged position and was driven out of Eden.
