Find out what an earnest is as in 2 Cor 1:22 and 2 Cor 5:5 which is YOUR verse...it means a pledge.....It has conditions.
Also Eph 1:13-14

It all speaks of a pledge, an earnest.
The promised item comes at the end.

If I presently have a heart belief that is unto righteousness and perseverance to the end (Romans 10:10, Hebrews 3:6, Hebrews 3:14, Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:13), then I will always have such a faith. For it produces everlasting life; and the nature of everlasting life is that it will never come to an end (John 6:47).

If the faith that I currently have is mere mental assent (a nominal, lukewarm, or shallow faith), then there is the possibility of falling away (Luke 8:13).

OK,,,except JESUS did NOT speak of mental assent.
HE said the person BELIEVED and THEN FELL AWAY.

IF anyone KEEPS Jesus' WORD, he shall never see death.

IF is a conditional word. So what happens IF WE DO NOT keep His word?

Whatever we receive after the resurrection...not after death...is forever, and it aint a form of death 'more abundantly'. Immortality? Eternal life? How that works? Not sure. What I have seen is that in heaven there is still the tree of life. So I would assume, that just as Adam and Eve was expected to partake in order to live forever, so will we. One thing I know for sure is that whatever we receive is a gift...it ain't natural. Meaning we are not immortal, as you say, only God is. So whatever we do in the end become, it comes from outside of us, and our preparation for that begins now.

The solution was confession because some were waiting till close to death to be baptized because baptism removed all sin.
