@farouk..

Amos 3:3 is all about the prophet Amos and his voice to the people when God's words are given to him to speak at the appropriate time, concerning judgment of his people. The prophet always walks with God as the source of the prophecy, and both always agree. The prophet cannot speak of judgment until God provides his words.

Amos 3:4 - 6 describes Amos's authority and right to prophesy once God delivers his words to him. The lion (God) now roars if you will, as he has his prey set (Amos 3:8). Now Amos warns his people of the imminent danger and destruction.

Amos 3:7 is the other 'bookend' to Amos 3:3.

Bless you,

Amos 3.3 contains such a searching principle, widely applicable.
I believe this so-called searching or widely applicable principle has been misused and abused and has no relationship with the intended meaning and context of the verse.

Is the emphasis and true meaning, on being in agreement as so to walk together, or first agreeing to meet as one mind and heart as so to then walk together? The former is based on a mental state and the latter is based on genuine faith. I prefer the latter meaning as it closer to the original words and intent. Most today prefer the former meaning and then the meaning become lost in the noise....much noise

Bless you,

APAK

Any more thoughts/ applications for this thread?

It's certainly a pivotal consideration when it comes to fellowship and local church activities.

Well Paul's exhortation on the Eucharist comes to mind...

The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?

Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

You too! Are welcome to come to the wedding feast of the Lamb of God!

I do see the emblems in the Lord's Supper as representational, symbolic.

Or do they in fact convey the Grace, that they symbolize and represent?

Can we walk together and yet not come together to celebrate this gift?

Can we tear and bite at one another and yet come forward to offer our sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise

Better to leave our sacrifice at the altar and reconcile with one another, then can we can come before the throne of Grace in Spirit and Truth!

Peace be with you!

It's faith in the Lord Jesus Who 'by Himself purged our sins' (Hebrews 1) that truly saves, not by taking the symbols, albeit that He instituted.

Indeed, we are saved through faith, and that is a gift frlm God!

But can we have faith and Jesus, and question the Truth of what He said?

'this is my body, take and eat'

' this cup is the new covenant in my blood, take and drink'

'he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood will never die'

Can we accept this teaching without faith in Christ, in what He has done, and in what He has said?

Why did the apostles devote themselves 'to the breaking of bread' ?

Peace be with you!

1 Corinthians 11.16: 'in remembrance of me'.

The Lord's Supper is a remembrance.

Clearly we don't agree on this; so it's likely to be futile going round and round on it.

To bring it back to the topic of your thread, does this mean we cannot walk together?

We, both of us agree that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour ... Is that enough?

I do see the emblems in the Lord's Supper as representational, symbolic.
But would it not be better to partake of that which is represented or symbolized than those representations or symbols? Why eat or drink the image instead of the reality?

"Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:53-54

Remember what the real flesh is not some wafer or cracker or piece of bread made from grain... rather the Word of God:

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." John 1:14

So eat it when we read the scriptures but we also need to drink His Blood:

"[God] Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." II Cor 3:6

The Life as we have read elsewhere in scripture is in the Blood. The blood of our flesh gives us carnal life, the Blood of the Body of Christ, the Holy Spirit, brings to Life within us the Words we have consume as per the above cited verse [II Cor 3:6]. This fulfills for us what Jesus said was necessary to obtain Life in John 6:53 also cited above.

Give God the glory!

I really don't see John 6 as being about the Lord's Supper at all.

Hello amadeus,

Why would you think the reality is not present in the image?

Here is Paul on the subject:
For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself

Peace be with you!

I sense that on important doctrine we won't agree

Perhaps, but if you call Jesus Lord and Saviour, i will happily walk with you here, our differences notwithstanding...

'bearing with one another in love' !

Peace!

Christ IS risen!
Alleluia!

I'm sorry about that. You are not the only one I have seen insist on toeing the line with the accepted traditions/beliefs of mainstream churches. So it was in Jesus day on planet Earth when the many of his followers left him
and he then asked his closest followers,

"... Will ye also go away?" John 6:67

But a few followed him by still faith even though they certainly did not understand at the time:

"Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life." John 6:68
