It's the "vile person" of Daniel 11 that places the "abomination that maketh desolate" in Jerusalem, which our Lord Jesus warned us of from the Book of Daniel. Antiochus IV of history served as a type for that future "vile person". Antiochus took Jerusalem, ended the daily sacrifice in Jerusalem, and instead setup an idol at the temple in Zeus worship, and demanded all to bow to it.

The coming "vile person" will be the coming Antichrist to Jerusalem that will exalt himself as God per 2 Thess.2. Jesus linked that "vile person" with the one who causes the "abomination of desolation" idol for the end of this world during the coming tribulation (Matt.24).

I saw some prophetic literature years ago which depicted the Soviet Union as the king of the north. (Guess what? the Soviet Union no longer exists... )
