The 4th commandment (3rd in Catholicism) is no longer in effect in the same way it was during OT times. We are no longer to slavishly observe Sunday or Saturday or any other day designated by church authority, for Christ is all and in all. Each day is Holy gift of God and should be lived as such, as we await the coming day of His glorious Revelation. Demanding people observe a certain day (as is the case of SDA) are in error.

Romans 14:5-6
Galatians 4:8-12
Colossians 2:16-17

Christ is our Sabbath rest and all we need.

Hebrews 4:17-34

Interestingly, I was just reading about this a few minutes ago on my lunch break. I had thought about making a post.

Exodus 31
12 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.
14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

A couple of things ran through my mind as I read this. One is in verse 13:

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.

They are to not work on the Sabbath as a way for them to know that God sanctifies them. I was reading in Romans 4 last night, about how justification must come by faith so that more than just Israel can be justified.

Do No Work . . . so it is clear that it is God Who sanctifies you.

The other is that God not only rested, but was refreshed!

:)

Much love!

Romans 14:5-6
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day [alike]. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord: and he that eateth, eateth unto the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, unto the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

There's nothing in this passage mentioning the Sabbath. The Sabbath isn't just simply about "regard", but not to "profane" what God has sanctified. Only God can sanctify anything or anyone.

https://www.christianforums.com/bible/galatians/4:8/

This is where most people seem to lose track of reality as this can't be referring to any part of the Mosaic law. It can't be referring to the commandments as they were given by God himself. God does not place anyone into bondage. Ezekiel even points out that those who suggest that God places burdens on people, are themselves a burden to God.

https://www.christianforums.com/bible/galatians/4:12/

Again, the assumption is that these are God's feast day, or that a false approach to the feast days negates or annuls the true purpose; it doesn't. This is the fallacy of the non sequitur.

https://www.christianforums.com/bible/colossians/2:17/

This is probably the most popular passage to cite, and practically no one ever notices what it actually states. Note first that Paul is pointing out "no man" passes judgment on you in what you're eating or drinking, or "respect" of Sabbaths, feast days, etc. This word quite accurately translated as "respect" literally means "partaking; taking part; participation".

Note also that they "are" a shadow rather than "were" a shadow. The semicolon indicates that is it the body of Christ who is to judge one's actions. In the original manuscripts there is no "is". It was added by the translators. It doesn't belong. It should just say, "but the body of Christ (i.e. "the church")" it is the church who shall judge your "respect, regard, participation" in God's feast days, etc.

Note also the reason stated in your citation from Hebrews:

yet those to whom it was previously proclaimed did not enter BECAUSE OF DISOBEDIENCE.

He has already stated the reason for this disobedience in vs. 2 which was
the message they heard did them no good, since they did not join in with those who heard it in FAITH.

Note that Paul is distinguishing between those who heard it in faith with those who didn't join them.

7 So God again ordains a certain day, “Today,” speaking through David after so long a time, as in the words quoted before, “O, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken afterward about another day. 9 Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God. 10 For the one who enters God’s rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his own works. 11 Thus we must make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by following the same pattern of DISOBEDIENCE.

Just because others disobeyed doesn't negate or annul God's law or his promises.

God's rest is in holiness. We are to enter into THAT rest through Christ. So we honour the Sabbath of God. We cease from our own works to enter into Christ. We honour that level of walk...which is by grace through the faith OF Jesus Christ.

Let no one judge you in your respect of (which day you consider to be) holy sabbath.

Nice try, but only God can sanctify a day, and he sanctified the seventh day. There is only one Sabbath. In many languages, the seventh day of the week is a form of the word, e.g. "Sabado" in Spanish. You can't consider the first day of the week to be the seventh day of the week any more than you can consider Sunday to be Saturday. There is no ellipsis either so your addition doesn't work.

He did. However, every day is apart of his glorious creation and should be treated as such. When we enter into Christ we enter into Sabbath rest, which is not a 1-day-per-week thing.

Entering into Christ's rest also means working because he works, and the father continues to work. Again, this doesn't negate the fact that God sanctifies one day, and he sanctified it by resting in it. Christ keeps the Sabbath. Paul keeps the Sabbath. James, John, and all the saints of God keep the Sabbath, not because they should or because it's the right thing to do, but because they're redeemed reborn children of the living God. That's what God's chosen people do. They don't love God because they keep his commandments. They keep God's commandments because they love God.

God's commandments are not arbitrary, or insignificant. There is no least commandment with God. Christ is using a figure of speech which points out that those who teach others to disobey God's commandments have no place in God's kingdom. When Jesus says "not one jot or title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." He's pointing out that even the force or power of the decorative marks (Heb. "taagan") will not be done away before the world ends. One has to be "desperately wicked" to immediately begin finding arguments to do away with God's commandments when so many new testament authors reaffirm their legitimate and established role in the New Covenant. There are no new laws against keeping any of God's commandments.

Every day is important yes, but God didn't bless, sanctify, and make holy every day did He? And He didn't ask us to remember every day as you are trying to do. Only the day you want to forget.
Why would observing the Sabbath negate ones rest in Christ?

Demanding people observe a certain day (as is the case of SDA) are in error.
The Seventh Day Baptists preceded the Seventh Day Adventists by about two centuries. They originated in the 17th century, while the SDA church originated in the 19th century as an offshoot of the Millerite Movement, (but under the influence of a Seventh Day Baptist woman).

However the Puritans in England believed that the first day of the week is the Christian Sabbath, and observed it as such. It is called the Lord's Day in Scripture (Rev 1:10), and Christians have observed the Lord's Day ever since. It happen to fall on the secular Sunday, therefore the SDA church called Sunday worship taking the Mark of the Beast and the papacy being the Antichrist (since the RCC observes Sunday along with other Christians)!. THIS IS A TOTAL FALLACY. I am quoting from an article on this subject (but most of the article is tiresome):

The Fallacy of the Mark of the Beast being Sunday worship

If you are one of those people who go to Church on Sunday, according to the majority of 7th day Adventists (official teachings) you are worshiping the Beast with his mark.

This has been their position from their inception and it has not changed except in personal opinions. “Sunday-keeping is an institution of the first beast, and ALL who submit to obey this institution emphatically worship the first beast and receive his mark, 'the mark of the beast.' .... Those who worship the beast and his image by observing the first day are certainly idolaters, as were the worshippers of the golden calf.”(Advent Review Extra, pages 10 and 11, August, 1850 (as quoted in “Seventh-day Adventism Renounced” by D.M. Canright, 1914)...7th day Sabbatarians do not hide that they are against the Catholic Church system...
[Note: According to this writer all other Christians are idolaters!]

[Adventist] Schreven says, “There are millions of people who are not “worshiping the beast,” but they do worship its image. Many churches today are nothing more than an image of the Papal Church. … they are following the same false teachings, traditions, and commandments of men. False teachings like baptism by sprinkling, the immortal soul, Sunday worship, eternal hell-fire, et cetera, are all from the Beast....
[Note: These are all Bible doctrines rejected by the SDA, whether or not the Catholic Church holds to them]

...Here Schreven is able to identify (as other Adventists do) what most have considered veiled.“ The Seal of God can only be received in the forehead. But the Mark of the beast can be received in the forehead, or hand...The hand symbolizes works, and actions. While these people do not believe in the Beast, their works reveal they follow its teachings and errors”... Because of this teaching on Sunday worship the Adventist Church puts everyone (themselves too) smack dab in the middle of the tribulation... [Note: Another major fallacy, since the Tribulation is in the future]

The fallacy of the Mark of the Beast being Sunday

You can't consider the first day of the week to be the seventh day of the week any more than you can consider Sunday to be Saturday.
Another fallacy. What are the reasons for the sabbath, how was it practiced, and how did Christ change it? That is the key to understanding the Christian Sabbath.

The primary reason for the Jewish sabbath was rest from daily labor, and the Jews also used it as a day of worship (and still do). But Christ took it one step forward and also made it a day for good works (which shocked the Jews and incited their hatred). So if these objectives are moved to the first day of the week, with worship as the primary objective, then good works, and then rest, it totally fulfils what Christ expected on the Sabbath days. And that is the key issue.

Naturally the eighth day does not become the seventh day, but by the same token the first day of the week -- the day of resurrection as well as the day of Pentecost -- has tremendous significance for Christians, and that should be the real focus. Furthermore, the Sabbath was given to Israel under the Old Covenant, but under the New Covenant IT IS A SHADOW. The reality is Christ, our eternal Sabbath, since we rest in Him while He gives us rest.

God's Law has yet to be brought to the attention of the whole world in a way that has never been the case before. It is the violation of God's Law that defines sin which I'm sure you are aware of.

It is when the issue has been set before the world as to whose Laws they will choose to obey, whether God's or mans that the mark of the beast will become operative for those who choose the commandments of men.

We are now living in a time of preparation and the message is going out. God's seal embodied in the fourth commandment if you care to take a look, will be highlighted. Conversely, the mark that identifies the authority of man as represented in the deliberate change of God's Commandments, particularly that of the fourth commandment will set the two camps apart.

The weightiness of the matter is not apparent yet but a time not far hence is closing on us and the issues will be clear for every man and woman. Excuses and justifications to break God's Law of life will no longer stand.

Highlighting the 4th may be a good place to start, but it certainly doesn't end there. I think this is where most Christians who observe the 4th go wrong. They tend to set the 4th commandment up as the definitive mark while justifying their ignorance of the rest of God's laws, or blatantly disregarding specific laws.

Christ is our Sabbath rest and all we need.

Who wants a Christ that is our Sabbath or is our Sabbath rest only?
No, "a Sabbath-rest-Day REMAINS VALID for the People of GOD..." WHY?
"...if JESUS gave them Rest"!
Jesus gave the People of God HIMSELF-- HE is "the Rest OF GOD" [katapausis] which God gave the Church.
And "THEREFORE" -- to enjoy Christ --, "a Sabbath-rest-DAY [sabbatismos], REMAINS VALID".
But WHY "a Sabbath-rest-DAY"? Because it "FOR THE PEOPLE of GOD, "remains valid a DAY"!

"Jesus gave..." The Sabbath Day is grace-- God's gift of grace, that's why "WHY / because / for / if, Jesus gave...".

And like all God's gifts of his grace the Sabbath-rest-Day gift of God's grace, is "for and valid for The PEOPLE of God", Christ's Church.

All nations may make noise and be angry at God for this gracious gift through Jesus Christ for his Church; they can do no more than be angry and make a noise; it changes nothing - God's truth is God's truth, safe and standing fast, "hidden with Christ in God".

All nations can also enjoy this gracious gift as well. Christ's gift is an invitation to all ("The Sabbath was made for MAN...etc."), but some people just prefer to rest in their own doctrines and traditions.
