@Philip James is right E...and I've been through this with you myself.

You can believe what you want to, but a knowledgeable Catholic knows more about his faith than you can....

The sacrifice of the Mass does NOT RESACRIFICE JESUS.
It's a memorial...it brings us to the foot of the cross.

Who knows more? Me, you, or a few PRIESTS that actually celebrate the Mass?

The CCC, BTW, is one of the most confusing teaching tools ever.
Some of it is easy to understand, and some is very vague and misleading.
If the finality of the Cross - 'Once offered' (Hebrews chapters 9 and 10) - "It is finished" - is not coming across clearly, then ppl are more likely to come to regard it in some way as a continuation of the sacrifice, which is not Scriptural.

I don't know what people that just go to Mass believe because not much is taught at the Mass and most people don't really care.

But catholics that study their religion know that Jesus is not sacrificed at every Mass as Protestants believe.

Well, it's important to focus on Scripture, rather than on the traditional way of doing things.

Im not sure what you mean by the traditional way of doing things.
Every church has their traditional way of doing things...

I know, but the point is we need to get beyond tradition; we were thinking this morning in Matthew 15, where the Lord challenges the traditions of the scribes and the Pharisees.

There is also a verse on tradition:

Luke 2:42
1 Corinthians 11:12
2 Thessalonians 2:15

and more...

I think that a lot of people need to unlearn what they have been taught before they are able to accept the truth. All the Catholics I've ever spoken to seem to put the teachings of their church before the teachings of Jesus. My non-denominational church had amongst it's members some ec Catholics and I remember one couple in particular talking about how they had discovered the truth and become born again and decided to leave the Catholic church, When they went to tell the priest he said he was delighted for them and wished them well.

Sadly priests of all denominations are programmed to keep teaching the same old same old dogmas, rituals and traditions without really questioning and sadly most of their flocks receive the same old same old without question.

1367 The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice:

And there it is again. It is the ONE paschal sacrifice of Christ that is held up and to which we unite (or rather to which HE unites) our praise and thanksgiving, indeed our very selves...

You refuse to see because then the unreal Catholic bogeyman you have created would come crashing down...

Peace!

One could also say the for people needing to "un-learn" Protestant traditions before they can accept Jesus' truth.
Every group thinks they're right (hence why they belong to that group).

Hi Pearl,
Jesus and His Church are one! There is no difference between 'the teachings of Jesus' and the teachings of His Church.

Peace be with you!

Well PJ,,,some are different.
Some dogma/doctrine, I can't find in scripture....
or it is not very clear and should not be dogma.

Do you believe everything the CC teaches is biblical?

Absolutely, did I say otherwise. When I became a Christian I was encouraged to not just accept blindly and unquestioningly what I was being taught but seek out the truth for myself by studying my bible.

I think you might find that there many differences if you were to look into it and not just accept what you've been taught and not be so defensive.

I believe everything is consiststent with the Bible.
I do not think the Holy Spirit ever stops correcting and teaching the Church.
He also never contradicts Himself , thus what was True in 100 ad, 200 ad... 500 ad... 1000 ad... Must still be True today.
Our understanding of some Truth may have been deepened or clarified, but cannot suddenly become untrue.

Peace!

Its funny, but others challenging the Catholic faith are what prompted me to look more deeply into the Tradition of the Church and learn what my brothers and sisters have taught, believed and lived for 2000 years.
That the Orthodox and Coptic churches teach essentially the same things after 1000 years (or more) of separation confirm the Truth of these things (two or three witnesses).
The constant splintering and changing doctrine of the reformation is a result of and evidence of the spirit of rebellion that underlies it.

Can we say we serve our King if we refuse to serve His ministers?

Peace!

You can believe what you want to...
Am I believing *what I want* or did I quote exactly what is written in the CCC? So now if you (or any Catholic) wants to wilfully deny the truth, you answer to God. To blatantly claim that words don't mean what they say is rather serious. And you claim that Philip James is right!

So this is an excellent example how Catholics turn around and make liars out of those who actually show them their false doctrines. This has been going on forever.

You don't have to make excuses for the CCC or the RCC. The CCC from which I quoted is right on the Vatican website, therefore authoritative Catholic teaching. You also claimed that the Council of Trent does not apply any more and my quotations showed that indeed it does.

Read what is written and accept it for what it teaches. And if you don't believe this then read Fifty Years in the Church of Rome by former Catholic priest Charles Chinquy.

"Every bishop and priest of the cities of New York and Boston, Chicago, Montreal, Paris, and London, ect., firmly believes and teaches that he has the power to turn all the loaves of their cities, of their dioceses, nay, of the whole world, into the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. And, though they have never yet found it advisable to do that wonderful miracle, they consider, and say, that to entertain any doubt about the power to perform that marvel, is as criminal as to entertain any doubt about the existence of God....When a priest of Rome, I was bound, with all the Roman Catholics, to believe that Christ had taken His own body, with His own hand, to His mouth; and that He had eaten Himself, not in a spiritual, but in a substantial material way! After eating Himself, He had given it to each of His apostles, who then ate Him also!!

Quoted from Fifty Years in the Church of Rome.
