It seems to me that you have copied this questionnaire out of a book and the answers reflect the author’s understanding.

However, I would provide the following comments on some of the answers give in your post:-

9._____ Satan took the form of a serpent when he tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden.

False, the Bible never mentions Satan taking the form of or entering into the serpent in the Garden of Eden.

True, however a reference is made to the serpent, introduced to the Biblical Storyline in Genesis 3:1, in Revelations 12:9 and 20:2, where we are told that the “ancient serpent” is “the Devil and Satan”.

Rev 12:9: - So, the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Rev 20:2: - He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

14._____ The wise men visited the baby Jesus in the manger.

False, according to Matthew 2:11, by the time the wise men visited Jesus. he was in a "house."

Yes, but our understanding of the Greek word “oikian” which is translated in Matt 2:11 as: -

Matt 2:11: - And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

can also be considered to have the meaning of the “abode”, i.e. the place where a person is living, which means that Joseph, Mary and Jesus could still have been in the roofed and walled animal stalls as there still may not have been any rooms in the inn for them to occupy. The question that needs to be answered at this stage is when did the wise men visit Jesus in Bethlehem? My understanding is that the wise men visited Jesus was within a day or two of His birth, to fit the timeline of the events around Jesus’ birth.

15._____ There was one set of the Ten Commandments given to Moses.

False, there were two sets. Moses broke one set in anger when he saw the false idol, the golden calf. (Exodus 32:19-34:1)

More precisely, there was only one listing of the ten commandments given to the Israelite Nation at Mt. Sinai, however, the first listing of the ten commandments written by God, Moses destroyed and then Moses at God’s command, took a second set of stone tablets up to God, for God to record the list of the ten commandments a second time upon them.

The answers depend on our understanding of the storyline.

After my husband died many well intended friends would say "God will not give you more than you can bear"....well that was just a bold face lie.....God didn't kill my husband, for one, and I couldn't bear it, for two....when I heard a preacher preach that I confronted him after service and said that is a twist on the meaning of that verse...God was talking about temptation...He won't tempt us above what we are able to bear and with the temptation He provides a way of escape.

You speak much wisdom there. So many people live their entire lives and never understand that verse is about how God ALSO provides us with ways to cope and with rescue from despair.

Post #3 is reflective of the way we struggle to keep so many fallacies alive. It seems it is not just among the Catholics that Tradition outweighs written Scripture.

Mr T. where did you get that list of questions from, a book?

It is my view that the "book" is keeping a lot of fallacies alive as well as expressing the author's own lack of understanding.

The statement that the actual words in the question are not to be found in the bible, I can agree with, but, the concepts, that they convey in a number of the questions, are: -

Let us consider Question 3 in your list: -

3._____ "Spare the rod, spoil the child" is a biblical teaching on child raising.

This understanding can be found, expressed in the following scripture verses: -

Prov 13:24
24 He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
Prov 22:15
15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.
Prov 23:13-14
13 Do not withhold correction from a child,
For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.
14 You shall beat him with a rod,
And deliver his soul from hell.
Prov 29:15
15 The rod and rebuke give wisdom,
But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
Prov 29:17
17 Correct your son, and he will give you rest;
Yes, he will give delight to your soul.
Now, Mr. T. if you had been reflecting on my response you would have understood that I had also agreed that the "words" highlighted in your questions are not found in the Bible but that many of the concepts expressed are found in the words of the bible for those who are prepared to search them out. Now whether or not I expressed my thoughts adequately for you to grasp what I had written, is a very different matter.

Now with respect to my response to question 14, I gave a very short thumb nail response. The rational of the author's false claim is based on his understanding of when this event took place, but for the fact that both Joseph and Mary did keep to the letter of the law, then Jesus was presented in the Temple around 40 days after He was born as was required by the Law. In this time period, Joseph, Mary and Jesus first travelled down to Egypt, return to Canaan, but went up to Nazareth because of who had replace Herod as ruler of the area, and then went down from Nazareth to the Temple in Jerusalem to present Jesus, before returning to their home in Nazareth. Now this picture emerges from the Gospels if we spend the time to reflect on and put the story of Jesus's birth into chronological order.

Post 3# was not reflective on how we keep many fallacies alive, but it was written to reflect how we do keep many fallacies alive through how we understand the scriptures by our responses to the questions posed in your OP to this thread.

It seems that you had an agender when you started this thread, but sadly your agender is missing the mark badly in how you characterised my response in #3 above.

Shalom

Haha! Great @Willie T

Even more fun for me as I came to your thread just after telling Mayflower that " This too shall pass"...
Taken obviously from the biblical phrase - " And it came to pass...."

Yes I got all correct as being False. Go me!

Needless to say... most of them have great wisdom as phrases..
( obviously not- Eve biting into an 'apple'...or the wise men being at the birth of Jesus etc... )

Blessings...H

Helen,
This is something else I still love to this day. It is one of the things that led me to seek Jesus.

I listened to half of yours here...then because of the overpowering music ...I transferred over to YouTube and listened to it with another reader and no music... who I liked a lot ...
no offence I hope ....I preferred the youtube rendition , easier for me to hear . :)

The first might've fooled me. The Bible never says, "this too shall pass" but it does say , "must come to pass" a few times. Matt 24:6, for example.

But I caught on to what you were doing, and it made me question it.

Racking my brain to think of more examples... The only one I can think of is the notion that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. She might have been, but the Bible never says so.

You may have included, 'Hear no Evil, see no evil, speak no evil'?
I'm not entirely sure if this expression is often misinterpreted as being scriptural, but possibly?

I must admit that I agree with @Jay Ross, as I was incorrect on one or or two bullet points because, as he said, the concepts are actually in the Bible, as he demonstrated. To the point that, i thought that it was more a Biblical translation or version issue, rather than a misquote.
I say this more to excuse my error, rather than to correct you in any way, for your ultimate point is still clear and valid. We are either, influenced by tradition, indoctrinated with false principles, or just don't pay enough attention to the details when reading the Bible.
