Many of Mormonism's men of a certain age and experience are priests in the
Church's order of Melchizedek.

According to the New Testament epistle to the Hebrews, the Melchizedek
priesthood is a high-priest priesthood. As such it is very exclusive; viz: it's
supposed to be occupied by only one man at a time; viz: a Melchizedek
priest is solo, i.e. he has no fellows.

Also: the position of a high priest is for life, i.e. he's not replaced until he
dies, which should never happen to a Melchizedek priest because according
to the New Testament letter to Hebrews, they're supposed to be immortal.

Many of Mormonism's men of a certain age and experience are priests in the Church's order of Melchizedek.
The Mormon teaching on the Mechizedek priesthood has absolutely NO BASIS in the Bible. Joseph Smith claimed that he received a revelation about this, therefore he laid out the following teaching in Doctrines & Covenants, Section 107. So this is a purely Mormon invention.

SECTION 107
Revelation on the priesthood, given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, about April 1835. Although this section was recorded in 1835, the historical records affirm that most of verses 60 through 100 incorporate a revelation given through Joseph Smith on November 11, 1831. This section was associated with the organization of the Quorum of the Twelve in February and March 1835. The Prophet likely delivered it in the presence of those who were preparing to depart May 3, 1835, on their first quorum mission...

1 There are, in the church, two priesthoods, namely, the Melchizedek and Aaronic, including the Levitical Priesthood.

2 Why the first is called the Melchizedek Priesthood is because Melchizedek was such a great high priest. [Note: There is no reference here to Christ, and Melchizedek was not a High Priest, just a priest. Christ is the High Priest]
3 Before his day it was called the Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God. [Note: This is the reverse of what is in the Bible]
4 But out of respect or reverence to the name of the Supreme Being, to avoid the too frequent repetition of his name, they, the church, in ancient days, called that priesthood after Melchizedek, or the Melchizedek Priesthood. [Note: This has no Scriptural basis]
5 All other authorities or offices in the church are appendages to this priesthood. [Note: This is a purely Mormon belief]
6 But there are two divisions or grand heads—one is the Melchizedek Priesthood, and the other is the Aaronic or Levitical Priesthood.
7 The office of an elder comes under the priesthood of Melchizedek. [Note: This has no Scriptural basis]
8 The Melchizedek Priesthood holds the right of presidency, and has power and authority over all the offices in the church in all ages of the world, to administer in spiritual things. [Note: This is a purely Mormon belief and everything that follows]
9 The Presidency of the High Priesthood, after the order of Melchizedek, have a right to officiate in all the offices in the church.
10 High priests after the order of the Melchizedek Priesthood have a right to officiate in their own standing, under the direction of the presidency, in administering spiritual things, and also in the office of an elder, priest (of the Levitical order), teacher, deacon, and member...
15 The bishopric is the presidency of this priesthood, and holds the
keys or authority of the same. [Note: This has no Scriptural basis]
16 No man has a legal right to this office, to hold the keys of this priesthood, except he be a literal descendant of Aaron. [Note: This contradicts verse 15)
17 But as a high priest of the Melchizedek Priesthood has authority to officiate in all the lesser offices, he may officiate in the office of bishop when no literal descendant of Aaron can be found, provided he is called and set apart and ordained unto this power by the hands of the Presidency of the Melchizedek Priesthood. [Note: This contradicts verse 16]

18 The power and authority of the higher, or Melchizedek Priesthood, is to hold the keys of all the spiritual blessings of the church—[Note: This has no Scriptural basis]
19 To have the privilege of receiving the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, to have the heavens opened unto them, to commune with the general assembly and church of the Firstborn, and to enjoy the communion and presence of God the Father, and Jesus the mediator of the new covenant...

I acknowledge and respect your view here Webers_Home, but don't agree with the points that it's either supposed to be a only 1-man position or immortality. I don't find any clear Bible references for those points.

Also going to respectfully disagree with you here Enoch. Like many other discussions, this is ultimately going to come down to the question of "Does something have to be point plank stated repeatedly in the Bible to be True?" Which is a really big discussion.

Haha.
Not quite accurate, but thank you for the smile and laugh.
Can anything good come from Nazareth?

see certainly we are inclined to immediately knee-jerk "certainly" to the q yeh?
ha
ha ha

about accurate idk tho k, not claiming that :)
but maybe contemplate jesus of nazareth in the context of paul of tarsus, et al, and that names had meanings then, much more so than today
if you will

proof or whatever i got none, not even trying to prove anything aight

What silly nonsense!! Melchizedek is a person,

"Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually." Hebrews 7:3

Of course Melchizedek was a person. No "Mormon" denies this. It seems like a "no duh" statement actually.

For Christians since the time of Christ, the Holy Bible is the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY for both faith and practice.

Joseph Smith invented his own "Melchizedek priesthood" which shows that the teachings of the LDS Church cannot be trusted. I have quoted precisely from Doctrines & Covenants, which Mormons place on the same level as Scripture.

According to some people, it's reasonable to assume that Christ's followers
are Melchizedek priests too because of their priesthood's association with
Jesus (1Pet 2:9). But as already pointed out, Jesus is a high priest; as was
the original Melchizedek (Heb 5:10]. There can be only one of those at a
time rather than a guild of many high priests.

The same pattern is employed in Aaron's priesthood. He too was a high
priest but the priests under him were not. They had no special title, viz: they
were just simply Levites.

FAQ: Does Mormonism's order of Melchizedek have to be biblical? Why can't
a church employ the name for their proprietary order of priests; sort of like
the Mason-sponsored community of Job's Daughters International?

A: Because it's fraud. Maybe Mormonism's brand of morality doesn't see it
that way; but my brand sure does. Christ's high-priest priesthood is not a
trifling matter; it is crucial to humanity's association with God and when
Mormon men take that title to themselves, they are nothing less than
identity thieves and usurping someone else's authority as their own. I can't
stop them of course, but neither can I condone their conduct.

Interesting. Taking that office and applying it to man is at the least sacrilege, at worst blasphemous.

Taking Christ and making him a creature and brother of Satan is most definitely the latter. These things are just the tip of the iceberg with this fraudulent man made religion...

So mormon priests are without mother and without father, eternal beings without beginning nor end of days! <giggle>
"God? Meh, no big deal, he's just a man like the rest of us and got exalted. We can do that trick too if we hold our mouth just right!":rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:o_Oo_Oo_O

That doesn't answer the question, and remember:

God >> the Bible.

Which isn't lowering the Bible, but remembering that God Himself is above all others. He is the center.

So this is just another slam attack on misrepresentations of another's faith? Well, that makes like #155109 from this week alone.

Exactly. Scripture is the final authority. In attempt to get around this, Joseph Smith called others fools for believing this truth. He has some fake verse in his fake "scripture" that makes this blasphemous charge.

But God's sheep will not be fooled by this fraud. John 10:1-18 is fitting here, Gods people follow him and know his voice. They won't follow a false shepherd, noted as a thief, murderer and liar John 10:10.
