Didn't last very long, did it? I think he made that about-face, precisely because his pollsters were telling him this was happening. But it may be too late.

One thing about polls like that is that people are usually reluctant to express displeasure with a President in a crisis. They want to feel the country is behind him and they want to be too. Jimmy Carter's approval rating was high when the Iran hostage situation started. What I noticed was while the approval percent went up, it wasn't affecting the polls matching Trump and Biden very much at all.

The Washington Examiner is very right wing. So there you are.

The Examiner is fairly good at separating opinion pieces from factual pieces; and like other reputable sources with a leaning to the left or the right, they try to be careful not to print outright lies.

Yes, but you have to admit, some of the media outlets, (and you can watch them during the nightly news) are inciting a level of fear and panic that is for some purpose other than just directly news.

Both sides, left and right, do that to one extent or another. They just use different things to scare their listeners. If you get someone scared of what might happen, odds are he'll tune you in again to see what's happening.

Remember not too long ago how everyone was frightened of North Korea's missiles? That didn't get solved. They just fired more missiles; and the US military warned that their missiles are getting better. No one seems to care. No one seems to care about what's happening to American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The news often resembles a soap opera. The media and the public got bored with the past stories, and now they're on to something else. Come this November, don't be surprised if the election is about something else entirely.

And now this! Some of the equipment Russia sent to the US was made by a firm under sanctions by the US. It's not known if a waiver was issued.
Could Trump have violated those sanctions when he said to accept the shipment -- or was a waiver granted?

There appears to some confusion over whether the US bought the stuff at full price or if they paid half-price with the other half being charity.

“OFAC can always issue a specific internal license for a transaction involving a sanctioned party,” the Treasury Department’s former senior sanctions adviser Brian O’Toole told RBC.

“But the Trump administration might have not issued any license,” he was quoted as saying.

O’Toole said Russia’s state-owned Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which is subject to less severe U.S. sanctions, may have stepped in to avoid violating U.S. sanctions. RDIF said it paid half the costs of the Russian supplies after initial confusion over the terms of the deal.

“This still should be considered a formal violation of sanctions,” O’Toole was quoted as saying.

The U.S. State Department said it bought the entire planeload of the medical equipment. Russia’s Foreign Ministry later said the U.S. had paid for half the cargo, while Russia donated the other half.

KRET told RBC that it delivers ventilators and other anti-coronavirus equipment exclusively to Russia’s domestic market.

“The president and the government have the decisionmaking prerogative to provide international assistance,” KRET said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry and other senior officials have refused to disclose the contents of the 60 tons of supplies that touched down in New York on Wednesday. Neither the U.S. nor Russia specified the financial terms of the deal.

Critics in the U.S. accused the delivery of being an attempt at a propaganda coup for President Vladimir Putin. Inside Russia, critics derided the government for shipping the supplies abroad despite domestic shortages.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has infected 245,380 Americans and 4,149 Russians, with more than a million cases reported worldwide.

Which would make sense, given the data. Trump's rise in approval was largely due to democrats and independents approving of his about-face on the COVID-19 pandemic. I expressed approval of that, too. Doesn't mean any of them thought he was a good president or that they would vote for him.

They seem very factual. I guess "maybe 100,000 to 240,000 Americans will die" is pretty scary. But then Trump's own people are not admitting that that much. Local television stations often make stuff like a failure to inspect school buses on schedule into a huge thing. But then, if you're the one affected, I guess it is a big thing.

The thing is, when Trump lied about how serious it was (and then his experts told us it was a very big thing indeed) that contributed to the panic. When people think their leaders are hiding bad things from them, they tend to get a little excited.

At the tulsa jail, when they had over 1000 infections requiring medical attention with anti-biotics, etc, every year, (avg 3 to 5 per day, every day),
they THOUGHT they should try something else. The jail had no infections while using it. None. (none that required medical). Viral nor bacterial, nor mold, nor fungus, nor mildew.


SO you choose to , .... what ? Wait for the government of the USA to come up with something more harmful than not ?
OR Look into the other natural anti-virals like vitamin C and various oils ?
