@farouk all the siblings above me were brought up very English, old school, cos our Dad came from that era. No tattoos or anything like that....
@Angelina Then in your particular generation you discovered that a bit of tasteful inking isn't necessarily incompatible with being ladylike - a lot of Christians now with faith based ink seem to think this way now, anyway.

Based on what you have posted, a tattoo on a "missionary" would not be well accepted within the Philippians and could be a hinderance in the Philippians for reaching out to people with the Gospel for foreigners.
philippians?
what verse?
Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the Asian sub continent giving one rupee to one person in front of others means that they you have to provide 1 Rs to everyone else in that neighbourhood, but it will only provide nothing more that lollies for the children.
let me also ask you can you bear the glaring eyes of others? the attitude they give because you have this art? for me it's better to leave this country than to bear this kind of treatment therefore a tattoo is definitely not a good idea it will only ruin your life your peaceful life

Sorry my bad spelling of the "Philippines" have corrected my error. I was in fact agreeing with you that a missionary to the Philippines would have greater difficulty reaching people in your country if they had a tattoo.

In speaking of the Asian sub continent, and the need to be careful how you give monetary aid to people in that country has been my experience when visiting that country over many years since 1996.

it is becoming a norm with health professionals.
@Heart2Soul It might even be said by some ppl that for nurses not to be tattooed is almost becoming unusual, whether or not this is strictly the case; nurses tend to get tattooed with confidence and so Christian nurses considering it can likely proceed to doing it with a lot of confidence also and be comfortable with themselves, tattooed. Like you say it's the norm now, almost.

Hi @Webers_Home ; back a bit you said:
The old adage "You can't judge a book by its cover" applies here as well as
in literature. I've met women with tattoos, studs in their tongues,
multicolored hair, fishnet stockings, outrageous earrings, tight-fitting concert
tee shirts, low-slung hip huggers, and black lipstick that were really peaches
while I've met dignified, neatly dressed women with horrible personalities.

Well, exactly; but it's inherent to the culture of North American fundamentalism for ppl to assume sweepingly that their own subjective personal preferences (as opposed to the true Biblical doctrines of the faith) are the only supposedly "theological" options and then they so often proceed scathingly to give everyone a hard time if their own personal preferences are not immediately conformed to.

Thus, to crush an innocent young person's individuality is often seen as a supposedly "spiritual" mission.

I have one myself! Of course, it's like 40 years old and nobody can even tell what it is! Lol
In Him Always :)
@Nancy Christians need to understand that it's frankly almost inevitable that some Christians will have gotten inked at some stage or other of their lives and that it's therefore not particularly unusual; if they would only admit this, it would take some of the heat out of discussions.

Well Farouk,
I don't see your tatt discussions as being "heated" at all, they are tame enough, lol. I personally just do not have any interest in this subject. Just like if a thread came up about the measurements of the Temple...I'd skip right over it. Pretty much every one I know, and that includes Christians and myself, have a tattoo so...I am not criticizing anybody here or anywhere....just not interested bro!

@Nancy I think we share a lack of heat on the subject! :) (Not everyone does, though...)

"Pretty much every one I know, and that includes Christians and myself, have a tattoo so..." Well, exactly...and I don't necessarily have a problem with the idea of artistically-inclined Christians working in tattoo parlors, either; in some ways it would probably seem good if they did...

@Angelina Back a bit you said:
I watched this British doco about tattoos and it seems that some folks just like their bodies tattooed whereas some people don't.
I think it's best just to be matter-of-fact about it; whether one has tattoos oneself or doesn't; whether someone else has them or doesn't; it seem common sense just be matter-of-fact about it, really, one way or the other.

I guess in some cultures it wouldn't work.

In North America it's extremely widespread. (I saw a quote which shows just how widespread.)

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.
