I have no doubt Communist countries maintain their original vision of causing the Communist revolution to spread around the world, favoring their own nationality. Every nation wants to be dominant.
What I was referring to was the original vision of Communism, which was to bring about revolution on behalf of workers around the whole world. Russian incorporated satellite countries into their "empire," which is what the Iron Curtain was. There were other Communist countries elsewhere around the world, but they found, as in Cuba, their influence was limited.
Communist countries are now in the business of consolidating their own power base, instead of spreading revolution, on behalf of workers, around the world. It is more nationalistic than ideological. Russia is still Russia, and it misses its imperial status. But realistically, the best Russia can hope for is just continuing to be a major player among the dominant powers on earth.
I do agree with you that Western leaders are "sleeping," and not seeing the danger that exists. For example Germany continues its relations with Russia, instead of looking more towards the US. Germany is fixed on the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline from Russia. That completely ignores what Russia has done in the Ukraine.
But Europe is probably moving more towards union anyway. The great image of Nebuchadnezzar had two legs and two feet of the 4th empire, indicating that Antichrist will unite the two branches of the old Roman Empire, East and West. This will include Eastern Europe as well as Western Europe, in my opinion.
So this isn't "sleeping" so much as intentional decision-making. Europe *wants* to move Eastward, and is already half way to Communism, having already turned towards a form of Socialism.
