A.W. Tozer's "Knowledge of the Holy" discusses our idolatry, perverted thoughts of God, referring to believers. He says, people have false beliefs about God, but act as if they are true, going on to say this is accomplished by deceiving the masses and spoon feeding them ideas about "what is God like?" Instead of seeking God with all of our heart, mind and soul and firstly, seeking the Kingdom of God and God Himself, we listen to what others think about God - the herd mentality, and it's NOT TRUE.

It was an epiphany, this is what "believers" have done, we are at the point where those who claim Christ really don't believe we have a cross to bear, really don't believe that God not only loves but is just, too. They believe God is ok with sin (transvestites, homosexuality, gay marriages, abortion, lying, deceptions) - that these sins don't really matter, because God is love. These are wrong thoughts about God, the most heinous sin!

Is it possible to come back from this? How does a believer stay on the narrow path? Many are chosen but few are called? Found worthy? It's been a wake up call for me.

Anyone else see this, too?
I believe the only way to love someone, if qualified, is to know them. Thus, learn about God and get to know Him, through the Scriptures. And to me, the only way to desist sin, is to truly appreciate the heinous nature of it, the utter futility and hypocrisy of it, the utter cowardice and immaturity of it, the insatiability of it. Understand not only that God prohibits particular actions and thoughts, but why He has interdicted them.
We don't practice a lot of the deeds of our youth, as maturity and wisdom has revealed to us the shameful nature of those acts. Appreciate now, that some of the acts that we commit today, may also have that subversive and repulsive nature about it, when, in time, we see the sin for what it really is.

That's why the chosen will always be tried to misled by many people, because they want to robbed the gift of the chosen. Many will come to you that "I am He" (Mark 13:5-13), don't ever trust them rather discern every person which coming to you and claimed as they were Jesus. Because so many deception in this world and nobody is up to heaven yet, only Jesus that can bring up men to heaven (Romans 10:6-7).

Maybe it’s just you’re the only one here that is Holy.
Folk have no idea how magnificently beautiful holiness is. I suspect they have some sort of 'religious' idea that has a do-gooder,
super pious, better than thou element. In this they have totally missed the mark. They have superimposed a heathen perception on the living God.

Holiness has a quality that takes your breath away....yes, angels veil their faces because of its breathtaking factor.

Jesus is the personification of holiness with divinity veiled. We need to take a closer look at the man who in all cultures is the Desire of Ages......for, by beholding we become changed.

No matter where one is, God is just one repentance away. I see myself as walking down the highway of holiness. The line down the middle of the road is also Amos' plumbline, aka God's word. On the left is a ditch called, "pride." On the right is a ditch called, "unbelief."
I keep a short sin account with God. If and when He points something out, I'm quick to deal with it. This ends with my daily cross.
Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly with your God. This is what the Lord requires from us. - from Micah 6:8 Shalom.

Living around other believers who are also practicing holiness would be nice.
Firstly Agios, I would like to say, I know what you mean but secondly, is there any other way of holiness than being it?

No doubt the angels are holy as is the vast varied creation of God in eternity yet God's Holiness is of a nature for us yet to be learned.

The scripture tells us that Jesus was the fullness of the Godhead bodily.....It has an element of scariness for mortals because it judges and consumes the unholy yet simultaneously its beauty, its attractiveness is fathomless.....and seen as such by those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.....subsequently a mirror is seen in his Ten Commandments.......Commandments that stand and are as unchangeable as God himself.

Our languages are inadequate when describing God, who He is, His nature and if we say we already know Him, there are too many facets to know Him completely. The more we know of Him, we begin to realize how much more there is to know! He is above all our minds could possibly conceive.
We can read about Jesus, His example, and experience Him for ourselves. As far as the 10 commandments, although remaining, He has fulfilled them and the standard for us is Christ, which is higher.

The book (in the OP) also discusses how we all want to reduce God to "manageable terms", so that in some way we can get Him to where we can use Him and with some measure of control over Him. A few years ago, I came across an article regarding God referring to Himself as "I am", not giving an actual name for Himself, because it is sort of evasive in that we can not truly know Him completely. As we begin to know others, we can more easily control them, manipulating them, use them, etc. (human nature). With God, it's different, we can not know Him as we know our friends, family, etc., He is so far above and elevated, yet, we want it to be manageable so we create ideas about Him in our heads, we teach others these same false ideas, this is idolatry. Now we have all these churches teaching different ideas about God, allowing world ideology into the teachings about God.

Character lacking, in us, would be fear of God, Holiness and obedience.

I wonder whether it was God's purpose in Jesus to be known? .....so he pressed the flesh so to speak.

It was those opposed to Jesus that did not want God revealed contrary to their imagination but those who saw and loved he became a source of unfolding joy and wonder.

this is nothing but a question isn't that considered as seeking God? you are not just going to read the bible but also ask other people about God because you don't know him that well and also ask others what they experience with God isn't this also seeking God? just like a child curious about God and relying on elders

It seems the Bible instructs us to seek God for ourselves, by ourselves, right? Not rely on other people's opinions of Him but rather seek Him and receive His opinion of Himself. It is what the Holy Spirit is for, right?

Not sure I would rely on elders, pastors or anyone else's interpretation of God when God Himself can teach us.

ahhhhhhh, a righteous wife!......them be few and far between. You are truly blessed.
More than you know!

I met her in high school, and, while we didn't get married for another 10 years, I knew she was the one. 32 years later, I know she was the only one for me, and I for her.

Much love!

@Agios The writer to the Hebrews exhorts his readers to keep "looking unto Jesus" (Hebrews 12.2); it would be easy to focus instead on other ppl's (and one's own) failures.
