What is the problem with the testing for Coronavirus?
It's still taking anywhere from three days up to a week before the results are known.
This is nuts...a person could almost be recovered or dead before they know the results of a test.
My son went Wednesday for a test...they said results won't be ready until Tuesday.
This is nuts!
It is nuts. I thought there had been progress in this. This is troubling news. There are places in Europe where the test results are so fast they can test everyone before they are allowed to get on airplanes.
It also makes contact tracing a lot harder. If your son doesn't have it, that means contract tracers wouldn't need to have names of people he had been in contact with so they could be tested. That saves money too since the tests can cost $100. They also wouldn't be worried -- and they wouldn't need to self-isolate if your son's test came back quickly as negative.
If he does have it, they need to have those names as fast as possible because some people have it without any symptoms and can spread it without knowing about it. Some people could have few symptoms but early detection could make treating them easier.
For contract tracing to work effectively, fast test results are needed; and it sounds as if the US is failing. I heard promises about faster results, but it doesn't seem to be happening. With fast results from testing and good contract tracing, there is no need to take severe measures like shutting down so many businesses. It doesn't look good if we don't get this problem solved.
