We should forgive because:
1) God commands us forgive.
2) God forgave us by dying for the sins we committed against Him
3) Even sinners are God’s children and our brothers and sisters
4) God loves sinners and came into this world to save them form sin.
5) We will find true peace only when we forgive.

"Should" - now there's a word...

#1 - And so even if it is hard we need to forgive, yes.
2. And so we need, in the least, forgive the petty things done to us
3. And so we need to look upon them as beloved of our Father and have compassion
4. And since God has compassion for sinners - we need to also
5. true enough

But, forgiveness is much deeper and more profound than even ALL 1-5.
1-5, with all due respect, is the beginner's starting point; forgiveness with rudimentary understanding.

We forgive
1. because it is not us forgiving
2. because we are forgiving ourselves
3. because we know nothing
4. because it would be presumptuous for us to even think we have any idea as to why someone "did" something
5 .because it is the natural thing that happens when we are detached from our ego and watch the Play, never taking things personally.
6. when we understand the other's motives.
7. when we know and understand who is "acting" - who is the" actor on the stage"
8. because if we are filled with anything like anger, doubt, unforgiveness, etc - our cup is full and can not be filled with God's Love,
WHICH IS WHY WE ARE HERE; THUS, NOT FULFILLING WHAT GOD WANTS.

Forgiveness does not exist when we are in understanding of how things work.

Forgiveness doesn't exist when there is no offense taken.

I like your list.

In addition, forgiveness is the highest expression of love.

my mother told me once she can forgive but she can't forget. now is this true forgiveness? Gods forgiveness is where he can not even remember our transgressions, so to me to forgive is to forget.how can i do this? apply the blood just as he did.

We should forgive :

Because we are not perfect
because we are one body
because Jesus Christ says we should forgive.
we should forgive because if we truly love, we gain nothing when we pay back evil with evil.

Have you ever loved somebody just so much - a girl/boyfriend? A child? A doggy?

They screw up all the time - but what do you do?
You forgive and forget - forgive and just drop it and move on.
Why, because love is so much higher than remembering and ruminating.
You just do it naturally bec love is more important.
That's the deal with our Father - He just dismisses it because He wants the loooove, not the wrath.

When we cherish the love and peace more than our egoistic claim to an offense -that's freedom.

So true!

Admittedly, it has troubled me from time to time when I encounter a Christian whose view of God is full of wrath and pettiness. Indeed, I treat my dog better than some people's God treats humanity. And if it is true that such a God exists, it would be unethical to worship him.

Peace

We forgive because we are on Gods side not satans. Now if we dont forgive ,w hen when satan stands before God and says, so and so has sinned and i want Him, and God respondes, " no he hasnt', then satan says, oh but he must of, for ( put your name in here ), nas not forgiven them so they must opf done something wromg. Se when you have not forgiven, you cannot call yourself a christian, for the love of God is not in you, for you become like the accuser.

This is what so many atheists have basically said to me ---it turns out they don't believe in the "Judeo-Christian God" ---that one that smote and murdered
so many children -then ravaged their women! Well of course, and then destroyed cities and turned them into rubble ----sorry, I got carried away -
but they actually do end up believing in a benevolent power -when you start talking to them and they can shed the terror they were taught about this wrathful Being.

Well, remember what Paul said to the Greeks who worshiped the UNKOWN God :)

Sorry, I did forget to mention , that forgiveness is a choice, unforgiveness is not an option.

In His Love

PS I cannot blame anyone for not hating God after reading the bible, it doesnt paint a nice picture of Him does it, He sounds just like us.

Very nicely put in context of girl/boyfriend? A child? A doggy? But its not the whole story, nor is it so simple.
We all desire for children and close friends to mature just as the Father does from us. Its an easy thing to love your children, do you love them so much you never correct or discipline them?
Could you consider such an action love, never chastening?
There comes a time to start walking and growing out of the pampers.
I think that their are a lot of fair weather Christians around today, the test of truth comes when the road gets tough, the Lord prepares and strengthens those He calls sons.
As the proverb says, For whom the LORD loves He chastens, If you have never experienced this I might question your confession of salvation. Have you been tested? lost a family member, your income your job? Been made to walk in faith, homeless perhaps? Sent out with out a purse or extra coat and lived by the word, that Lord knows your needs and will provide daily. I doubt it very much.

Proverbs 3
[sup]11[/sup] My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor detest His correction;
[sup]12[/sup] For whom the LORD loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

Hebrews 12
[sup]3[/sup] For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. [sup]4[/sup] You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. [sup]5[/sup] And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:

“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
[sup]6[/sup] For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.

[sup]7[/sup] If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? [sup]8[/sup] But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. [sup]9[/sup] Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? [sup]10[/sup] For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. [sup]11[/sup] Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
