Simple question. If you became convinced that God didn't exist, would you continue to practice (going to Church, praying, etc.)?

assuming I did not realize I had gone insane and had not checked myself into a clinic, what would be the point? Not to pray but guess I could see myself going to please someone else, family wife...etc.

Well, just because ME, A HUMAN, was convinced of anything that doesn't mean the Truth changes! LOL... so even if I felt like God didn't exist, I would still KNOW that He did... so I would still go to church! Because even if there was a force outside of my body telling me that I shouldn't believe- and I really listened to it... I would still say that my being convinced doesn't make or break God's actual existence... and so if I kept going to church and kept on reading the Bible- and even if I told God that I FELT like He didn't exist, but that I wanted to stay loyal to Him anyway and hold onto His promise that He will never leave... that I would keep reading the Bible.Do you know how I know I would do this? Because it happened to me! lol! And I really was a big cesspool of doubt- but I kept praying and holding onto His promises anyway even though I didn't FEEL like they were true... and He brought me out of it! And, you know, even though I COULD lose faith, God never does! All Praise be to God!

The question is not, "If God didn't exist, would you continue to practice?" The question is, "If you stopped believing in God, would you continue to practice?" So unless you believe the world would come to an end the second you stopped believing in him, the answer "I wouldn't exist" is just dodging the question.

I get the feeling this is one of those atheistic jabs again, but I'll play along. If I stopped believing in God, of course I would stop practicing going to church, praying, etc.. That is because if I believed in Him, that would be the intrinsic definition of "practicing", as true Christians believe that faith manifests itself as those types of works (or practices). So if I stopped believing and yet practiced, that would be the same as not believing and believing at the same time: a severe logical fallacy.

The question as stated in your original post was not if I stop believing it was as quoted below,by you I might add.But to answer your question,no I wouldnt continue to practice, however I would remain the person that I am

I have felt a lone in the past and yet kept praying knowing that He exist. Not that it will happen, but if I longer believed in Him then what would be use to continue to communicate with a Higher authority that wasn't there?

Hi 2445,You actually have two questions here. Your title says, What If God Didn't Exist? The answer to that question is that you and I wouldn't either. We have received everything we are. We didn't create matter, animals, people, etc.But the other question involves my belief in the existence of God. And that's a tough one to answer. I tend to want to begin by saying my belief or non-belief doesn't change the fact of His existence. That still leaves your question about how I would behave if I didn't believe that God exists, and that's probably a different answer for every person. Probably, I wouldn't pray to the thin air. Probably I wouldn't be too interested in churches, and would even wonder why people are interested. I might just do whatever I feel like doing, and that's a scary thought when you multiply it by the billions of people on the planet who could think that way too.Best I can do, since I believe and know that He does exist. If I were to give a Bible reference for this Reply, (which is kind of odd to say, since we're talking about not believing in that either) I'd say read all of Romans chapter one.waynemlj

Jewish Parable There's an old Jewish parable about a soap-maker and a Rabbi. They're out on a walk. The soap-maker says to the Rabbi, `Rabbi, what good is religion? What good is God? Look at all the misery in the world, what good does God do?` The Rabbi said, `That is a great question.` But then he didn't answer it. They just kept walking along. They came across some kids who were playing in the dirt. The Rabbi said, `Look at those kids. You're a soap-maker and you say that soap makes people clean, but look how dirty those kids are. What good does soap do?` The soap-maker said, `Well, Rabbi, soap doesn't do any good unless you use it.`

Hi stlizzy,I like your Reply about your belief in God's existence or non-belief not altering the fact that He exists. That's good! And we could add to that that, if He didn't exist, nothing else could exist either.Ex nihilo nihil fit = out of nothing, nothing comes.Good logic. And I appreciate logic as a sister to faith.waynemlj

I was convinced for over 30 yrs that God did not exist and I would not pray. I did not believe so why would I pray and to what? Church to me was phoney and the people, as I saw them were hypocrites.. They all went to the building and bowed their heads and smiled but so many people come out and continued with their lives , nothing really changing, just a bunch of words coming from their mouths but their hearts were hard. I was nauseated by them and filled with rage at anything or anyone speaking About What God could do or salvation. When I was approached by well meaning christians and they said, "don't you want to know that you will go to heaven when you die", I would say," NO, because I do not care where I go when I die" and I would walk away or shut the door.

If God didn't exist then neither would we.
But your lack of belief in him wouldn't make you disappear. My question is if you stopped believing, not if he stopped existing.

Again, if God did not exist then neither would we since He created us. If He hadn't been here to create us, we wouldn't be here in the first place since evolution is a lie of the devil. No Creator--no creation. If He died, we would then cease to exist since it is He Who keeps everything working. Colossians 1:17 says, "And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." Without God there would be no one. He holds everything together.

He died but He raised Himself up back again.

I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. Only 1/3 of Him, and it was only the body of Jesus that died--not God.
