Television: Satan's tool, harmless fun, both?

I should write a more in depth comment, but the gist is I half agree with you, True to the End. I have considered getting rid of my TV entirely, as much as my wife would loathe me for it (and dig it out of the dumpster). And I see where you have a point about entertainment in the life of a...

    Recipes?

Very cool.We are often short on money and need to stretch our dollar, so potatoes are our friend! Often we'll make a potato soup that is delicious. We cook up some bacon or sausage, boil a big pot of potatoes, drain most of the water and replace two thirds of it with milk. Mash the potatoes up...

Television: Satan's tool, harmless fun, both?

Yeah, years ago I said when I had children, they wouldn't even know what a TV was for a long time. I could very happily live without TV. I do enjoy a lot of movies, to be honest, but maybe that's another area I need to start seriously considering with God in mind. I absolutely LOVE books, was...

    Video Games

Gotcha. Well then I'll let my above comments stand as a general rule about how I feel about video/computer games, and refrain from commenting about specific games, since I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about!

    Recipes?

I love meat Well, heck, I love food What level of education are you in, and what are you studying? I'm starting medical school in the Fall. Can't wait for good old classes, midterms and finals again!

Television: Satan's tool, harmless fun, both?

I wholeheartedly agree with you there. I personally never turn these shows on, though, as a very visual person, when the shows are on I find it very difficult not to watch it. This is why I usually go into a different room. I'm trying to figure out what I should do about this. These are the...

    Recipes?

Something walking4Him said about cooking channels got me thinking about food. And I'm sitting here at work, with no food, so I thought I'd think more about food! This is the random forum section, so I figured...why not ask people what some of their favorite recipes are? I always seem to find...

    Video Games

Hmm, well like I said, you can fit my knowledge of video games/computer games on the head of a pin. Why is it called Grand Theft Auto then? The name doesn't seem to fit the plotline at all.

Television: Satan's tool, harmless fun, both?

That is definitely a good point. And as far as "sitcom" versus dramas, reality shows, programs, I honestly don't know the difference. I've purposefully stayed away from most of it. I just find that this is the type of show that is constantly on at my house, and I'm being more and more repulsed...

    Video Games

The rule I plan to use with my children, when they grow up, is if you wouldn't do it in real life, you shouldn't do it in play...be it on the computer or out in the backyard. So I won't let them play a game that has them running people over in a car for points...but I can see myself allowing...

    Video Games

Is it sinful? My answer at the moment is, I'm not sure, and it's probably a matter of conscience. I don't know much about the games, so I'm sure I'm not the best judge of the matter. But I've heard that the premise is basically that you drive around and get points for hitting people...

    When Tempted

"I'm sorry I can't do that! I'm being watched!!"I can imagine that would really make some people dead in their tracks, at least for a moment or two. Hmm. Thanks!

Television: Satan's tool, harmless fun, both?

Haha I could definitely use some good cooking ideas! I really want to get into the heart of the television issue, though. All the sitcoms and stuff out there, to one degree or another flying in the face of what God approves of. Two and a Half Men? Family Guy? SouthPark? Grey's Anatomy? The...

    I'm Back!

Lots of crazy things happened! My apartment burned down, had to live with my in-laws for a little while, son was born (he's three months now!) and I got accepted to a medical school in Ohio, so preparing to move cross-country and prepare for school! Plus trying to support my brand new family. I...

I appreciate your response. We're pretty low on the income bracket at the moment, and struggling under some pretty high mountains of debt, so we have the basic antenna channels at the moment.

    Sex before marring

This topic speaks straight to my heart. A lot of people have already mentioned what God has to say about the topic, so I won't go too much into that, except to say: Yeah, God made sex, it's great, and he meant it to be enjoyed IN THE CONTEXT he designed it for.I went 21 years without having sex...

    Christian Music

I listen to the local Christian station occasionally, but to be honest most the time I find the songs to be endlessly repetitive, virtually content-less, and just plain boring! I do appreciate a lof of the songs by Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns and the like. As for worship music, I have to be...

    I'm Back!

Well, I registered here late last year, and I posted a few times, but then stuff happened and I never really came back. Well, I'm back, and hopefully more frequently than before! I'm really spiritually hungry and looking to talk seriously and passionately about the stuff of God. Delve into His...

Television: Satan's tool, harmless fun, both?

Hello there! I have been contemplating quite a bit lately the role that television should play in my (or any Christian's) home. So, I thought I'd ask here and see what you all thought about it! I'll reserve my thoughts for now For background information, I very rarely watch television myself...
