The deconstructing of the law in the New Testament

Anti... nomians? Hopefully you don't mean St Steven. I LOVE St Steven. Not that I don't love all of you, but he makes the most interesting topics, and he's open to considering interpretations other than his own. One of my favorite people here.

The deconstructing of the law in the New Testament

This wasn't addressed to me, so pardon my interruption I don't see "the Law written on our hearts" as a matter of conscience. I see it as being those same 10 old commands, but enforced by ourselves upon ourselves, rather than one man against another. Monotheism Iconoclasm Don't presume to...

The deconstructing of the law in the New Testament

That's definitely in there. There's a lot that could be said about Solomon, but is off-topic here. I'll confine myself to this - when the Bible reckons righteous kings and evil kings, Solomon is reckoned among the evil ones: 1Ki 11:6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

It's a weird commandment. The original Hebrew seems to prohibit miscegenation - the mixing of races between Israelites and non-Israelites. When it was translated into Greek, they used a word that makes the commandment appears to prohibit prostitution. And in English, it appears to prohibit...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

It worked the same there as it did in Israel - all holy days are Sabbaths, but not all Sabbaths are holy days. What I mean is... the point of a Sabbath in every culture (including Moses' Israel) is to give workers a rest day. Whenever you want to have some sort of religious event or...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

The question can be re-worded to avoid the hypothetical: Are there benefits to being a Christian other than those in the hereafter? Yes - it's not hard to make a short list of several.

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

No. The Ten Commandments certainly were given to Israel, but most of them were things that other nations were already observing. By the time Moses lived, the Sabbath had been in common use by Semitic and Canaanite peoples for about 1,000 years. It's probably worth mentioning that Egypt was...

The Rapture and the Tribulation - Short

    Not short. False advertising

    Babylon

Sure, but China doesn't follow the UN's resolutions.

    Babylon

Definitely not. A quarter of the world is Islam, and they definitely aren't aligned with the UN. China and India are the world's two largest populations, and they don't. It's just Europe and America, and even in America small businesses and more than half of Christendom don't go that way.

    Sleep paralsis

Sleep paralysis - the medical condition - lasts a few minutes at most, and occurs only when one is falling asleep or waking up. If what you're experiencing occurs for longer than that, then it's not sleep paralysis. Is sounds more like vivid dreaming, based on your description. Is there...

Israel will take back full control of Gaza and eliminate HAMAS. They will administrate all of GAZA, no independence

My interest is mostly in the past. I love the historical aspect of the Old Testament. Iran/Persia has an amazing past as well, and was the jewel of the Middle East as recently as the 1960's. Too bad they fell into Islamic fundamentalism.

Israel will take back full control of Gaza and eliminate HAMAS. They will administrate all of GAZA, no independence

This is well done. Few people I've ever met bother to figure out the modern vs ancient geography. Question of the day: Samson (an Israelite) met Delilah (a Philistine) in Timnah - a city that belonged to neither Israel nor Philistia. How? Why? What?

Reading but Never Seeing: Why Scripture Remains Hidden to the Lost

That's silly. Intentionally so, and I take your meaning, but that is quite a jump. This wasn't ever "grace-only." Faith, justice, and love were all framed as more important elements. I did not omit these. (It appears you may have, welp) Do you always frame everything in extremes? Extreme...

Israel will take back full control of Gaza and eliminate HAMAS. They will administrate all of GAZA, no independence

Hopefully they will get older, grow up, and feel properly embarrassed about "that time they protested in support of terrorists."

Reading but Never Seeing: Why Scripture Remains Hidden to the Lost

It wasn't meant to be a slogan. Why was it taken that way? If I had said... Faith Justice Love Grace ...I'm pretty sure I would have gotten a different reaction. But those are precisely what those are. Why did putting them in modern English somehow make them out be some some kind of...

Reading but Never Seeing: Why Scripture Remains Hidden to the Lost

Oh, well... yeah those exist, but I wouldn't limit it to just the pretenders. There are plenty of genuine Christians out there who really don't read/study/understand much of their Bibles. Fortunately, being a Bible scholar isn't what is required. Believe God. Do right. Love each other...

Ultimately, it's not a matter of who is right and who is wrong... (?)

On the Internet, it can be hard to tell. In life, you just look at what people do. "You will know them by their fruits." When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Words may lie, but actions always tell the truth.

So: What caused the fall of the Roman Empire (if it wasn’t Christianity)?

There are plenty of reasons, but historically... Most regime changes start with military technology. The Romans with their Legions displaced the Greeks with their Hoplites displaced the Persians with their Archers. Likewise, the Roman Legions stopped dominating the battlefield when Light...
