    Home Labs

I had an office, one. Then I had my first child. [Correction: My wife had our first child.] We hope to move into a new home sometime in the future. I will have another office probably with a combination library. Nothing fancy, but a nice man cave with something a little better than TV and...

    Gluten Free Diet?

Anyone in a position where they must do a gluten free diet? I have a good friend who has to do one because of a medical condition and I am seeing how difficult it is when it takes away so many typical cheap, convenient, and quick foods!

    Amazing How Divided We Are...

I'm not sure I follow the distinction of using cathedral as being lazy because it's entirely in the semantical range of the word. If I say that a building looks like a cathedral, I mean that the building has more elaborate architecture than some other building or architectural style for...

    The law or Grace

I'm not sure that the proper perspective is the both perspective. Paul went to great lengths in Romans to explain the difference between following the law to gain/earn justification, and our ability now to see justification come as a result of belief. There is a cutting line that runs between...

    Good Morning from Aruba

Kindred souls we are. I've found that I liked traveling to places like Denver, Baltimore, and others, but I live in a state with both beaches and mountains, so I pretty much don't have to exit its borders if I don't want to. I am working up the courage to go to Europe and perhaps the Caribbean...

    Amazing How Divided We Are...

I saw someone shared this article this morning about a neolithic "cathedral" discovered in Scotland. I personally find it to be a fascinating discovery with some really beautiful work done by peoples of the past, but inevitably my eyes found their way down to the comments area where many people...

    Romans 8

Moderation Note: This topic was beginning to derail a bit into ad hominem discussions. Please remember that this community is about discussing and debating doctrines, not attacking people no matter how wrong you may feel their views are. Thanks in advance to everyone for getting back on track!

    SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT?

I've never been. I watched Benny Hinn one late night after I had a tonsillectomy and was jacked up on pain meds, so that has pretty much ruined it for me. Thought it was funny at the time. In all seriousness I think such a move can certainly happen (and certainly does), but I think a lot of...

    Apostles & Prophets

I get what you are saying here, and while I am not comfortable saying that I fully refute or disagree with it, this verse has always had two perspectives for me. The first and probably lesser would be the temporal reference to Paul being born perhaps at not quite the right time, as in he was...

    Jesus would believe in Evolution?

Just caught this and wanted to quickly address it. Your post makes no sense outside of perhaps an ambivalent attempt at humor. Of course there is a literary device in use that renders the ultimate meaning of the verse to be a picture of God's great strength. There is nothing private about that...

We updated to the latest version and it looks like the upload function works now. :)

    I don't like mysteries

pom, we don't always agree, but that's one of the better posts you've made if not the best! Well said. Your post and aspen's are very true. One of the dangers - and I'm guilty of this at times - is trying to read the events of the Bible as my narrative or as an exemplar to how my life should...

    How to add avatar

We have a (now) known bug with the avatar uploads. I don't have an ETA on it yet, but for the short term, if you want to change the avatar, go Angelina's route. I apologize for the issue; we did a small patch to the admin side which apparently broke the photo/avatar upload feature.

    My "Intro"

Mel, welcome to the community! That's quite a story of how God worked in your life, even as it was something so scary! Look forward to learning from you, particularly with your line of work and study.

    Newbie

Thanks for the prayer, we always need that! Welcome to the community. What's your background in Christianity if you don't mind me being entirely nosy? :)

    How to add avatar

I think you may have gotten it to work, but just in case... Did it give you an error message or anything when you selected the file and then tried to upload.

    Good Morning from Aruba

I might harbor a tinge of jealousy in my soul. We got back Tuesday from the beach. I could live there. ;) Enjoy your trip to Aruba! Catch some sun for me!

    Jesus would believe in Evolution?

A technical term for a portion of this is called semantic range. It basically refers to the range of meanings that a word can carry. Each word choice is based upon things like context which may influence or enhance a certain meaning of the word. This is the most common reason that translations...
