Where did the Bible come from? - Shot out of a canon

Hard to imagine Mary Magdalene singing with Peter and Paul. - LOL [

Where did the Bible come from? - Shot out of a canon

Many (most) have not had a first chance. I believe that nothing is left to chance. [
  3. St. SteVen

Was the Transfiguration a vision, or an actual appearance of Moses and Elijah?

Seems like a loss, since evil can be corrected. IMHO [
  4. St. SteVen

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

Yes. Fidelity in marriage is a picture of our relationship with God. Israel was an adulterous nation when they ran after other gods. [
  5. St. SteVen

Was the Transfiguration a vision, or an actual appearance of Moses and Elijah?

Sounds like diminishing returns. Doesn't God receive back all the spirit(s) that he gave? [

Examining the supposed "Whole Bible" view. - No consensus?

Agree. Too often the "whole Bible" view is presented as a subjective rather than objective stance. But as you demonstrated, it requires some work and discussion of opinion to arrive there. Results may vary. - LOL [

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

Would calling someone a Pharisee be a first stone? [
  8. St. SteVen

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

You continue to make this supposed biblical claim with no biblical support. I need you to be the Pharisee here. (prove it) [
  9. St. SteVen

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

Right. Calling me a heretic is like a badge of honor. But a Pharisee... them's fightin' words. - LOL [

Examining the supposed "Whole Bible" view. - No consensus?

I encounter this statement a lot... Someone discounts a scripture I quote as not possibly meaning what it plainly says because... It doesn't fit the "whole Bible" view. ??? As if there is consensus on what that even means, - Is there such a thing as a "whole Bible" view? - Is there consensus on...

Examining the supposed "Whole Bible" view. - No consensus?

Seems too many make an idol of their personal interpretation of the Bible. Claiming theirs is the only truth and that others are "of the devil" because their view differs. What's wrong with this picture? Misplaced allegiance. Religious fiefdoms. Building walls, instead of bridges. - What is...
  12. St. SteVen

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

Indeed. When you pin these folks down, they snarl and snap like cornered animals. (tooth and claw) But that's not a first. - LOL [
  13. St. SteVen

Was the Transfiguration a vision, or an actual appearance of Moses and Elijah?

Luke 20:38 NIV He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” [
  14. St. SteVen

Was the Transfiguration a vision, or an actual appearance of Moses and Elijah?

Agree. Thanks. The BIG debate here seems to be about the state of the dead. If one believes that the dead are in a state of unconscious non-existence, then Moses and Elijah could not have appeared to Jesus and the disciples. Conversely, if one believes that souls live on in the afterlife...

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

Thanks. Yes, well worth a listen. (for the brave) Confirms my conclusion. Believer = no questions = heaven Unbeliever = questions = hell The view that the Nicene Council was political, not spiritual, is a compelling observation. Bow the knee to the Nicene Creed, or face the consequences. [

Was the Transfiguration a vision, or an actual appearance of Moses and Elijah?

Right. Corpses plural. “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the corpses.” Acts 2:25-28 NIV David said about him: “‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart is glad and my...

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

I think it boils down to fear. Believer = no questions = heaven Unbeliever = questions = hell I create topics that challenge these things. Currently about 250+ topics. https://www.christianityboard.com/threads/where-did-the-bible-come-from-shot-out-of-a-canon.62317/ [

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

Exactly! Decisions made by humankind, not God. [
  19. St. SteVen

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

Speaking for Christ? That's what he said. The NT Greek uses a different word for fornication and adultery. [
  20. St. SteVen

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

Jesus didn't condemn either of those women. And what about the men? Certainly not a support for Jesus allowing for divorce in the case of adultery. God HATES divorce. Right? Why would Jesus allow it? Matthew 19:8 NIV Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your...
