Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

“You can’t even start to pray without thinking of the Trinity.” (Gavin Ortlund) https://x.com/solamediaorg/status/1918397150767055063?s=46&t=T64e94h2unfHH-VO4i01zA That’s a foolish thing to say, and easily dismissed by anyone having a basic knowledge of the Bible and post-biblical church...

    Sins

“Although the adjective ... (‘righteous,’ or ‘just’) can be used of Jesus in Johannine thought (cf. 2:1; also John 5:30), referring to the judgement of Jesus as ‘just’), the subject of the present phrase, ‘he is … faithful and righteous,’ is obviously God (the ‘he’ of vv. 6 and 7).” (Stephen S...

    Making us like our brother

Lucifer wanted to take God’s place. I shouldn’t have to add this but I feel that I do: I don’t want to take God’s place. God himself made Moses “as God” to Pharaoh (Exodus 7:1). Look where it got him. I see that you are using it that way but that isn’t the only way that the word is defined...

    Making us like our brother

Jesus, our brother, is the perfect image of the Father. We, I would say, are a blemished or tarnished image of the Father and the Father is making us like our brother to become the perfect image of the Father that he is.

    Making us like our brother

In post #18 I quoted a tweet posted on X / Twitter by Dr. Michael Horton wherein he asserted, “We are deified by grace.” I disagree with his assertion. I don’t want to put words in your mouth but it appears to me from what you‘ve said that you disagree with that assertion too.

    Making us like our brother

I’ve defined “divine” as being “godlike”. You’re saying that a created being can never be godlike? That sounds like “divine” defined as “deity” to me.

    Making us like our brother

They’re idols. Idols are lifeless and worthless. Jesus is a Jewish person. YHWH is his God and Father. Jesus worships YHWH alone as the one true God. There is no other God besides his God. Now we’re even further away from the topic of the thread than we were before!

What I see is that you’d rather not comment on the question. That’s allowed. I wasn’t aware that we were arguing.

    Making us like our brother

The Father is not making his people deity. He alone, I assert as a Jewish monotheist, is the only deity.

I agree with those which you listed. What I’d like to know is whether or not you think you’re / we’re being deified by God.

    Making us like our brother

That’s right. I don’t mind that but it could leave some of your readers who aren’t as familiar with me as you are with the false impression that I’m a JW. I know you know that I’m not a JW (and I never have been) but others might not. The JWs might also be disturbed by the thought that what I...

    Making us like our brother

There are a fair number of other translations which render John 1:1 as the NWT does. I don’t think that’s what John had in mind when he wrote his Gospel. In what way(s) do you think God is making followers of Jesus like Jesus? Do you agree with Dr. Horton that you are being deified by grace?

    Making us like our brother

Dr. Horton is a Calvinist. What he thinks about the nature of Jesus isn’t what captured my attention. What he said about followers of Jesus did. ”We are deified by grace.” We’re saved by grace. We’re deified by grace? That’s what I’d like to hear your thoughts about. Do you think you’re being...

Barna Poll: Most Americans - Including Church Members - Reject the Trinity

A lot of talk about the Nicene Creed making the rounds on social media this year. I, for one, think that’s a good thing. Two perspectives: ”Don’t underestimate people in the church! They want the deep things of God. They are hungry for the Nicene Creed in worship. People like Cranmer could not...
