1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He [Jesus] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.

If we are born again, then God has already forgiven all our sin, and does not charge sin ever again to a CHRISTian.

“Although the adjective ... (‘righteous,’ or ‘just’) can be used of Jesus in Johannine thought (cf. 2:1; also John 5:30), referring to the judgement of Jesus as ‘just’), the subject of the present phrase, ‘he is … faithful and righteous,’ is obviously God (the ‘he’ of vv. 6 and 7).”

(Stephen S. Smalley, Word Biblical Commentary: 1, 2, 3 John, Vol. 51, p. 32

I agree with what Dr. Smalley says here. John is speaking in this verse about the Father (cf. 1 Timothy 6:16), not about Jesus.

If I were to amplify the passage I would render it something like this:

”If we confess our sins, he (God, the Father, YHWH) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

That is what I - a Jewish monotheist who believes that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah, Son of the living God - would tell newbies.

V 7 says that the blood of Jesus Christ, cleanses, but as Jesus said He "and The Father are one", and "he who has seen Me, has seen The Father", along with Paul's affirmation that "Jesus is the image if The invisible God" I suppose the point is...we can cleansed from ALL sin, by God :)

Only those who confess and repent of their sins.

1 John 2:4
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Did Jesus say that if you keep His commandments, you'll go to Heaven?

No He didnt.
So, you forgot that part, because you dont know the reason why....

Now, READER..... Here is how you go to Heaven, or you won't.

Jesus said....>"you must be born.......= again".

And.......Here is how you can go to Hell.
Play religioius "commandment keeping", and "water baptism"" self deceived religious theology games on Forums, and in Life, and die not understanding what it means to be born again, while pretending that you know all about it... all the way to Hell.

Its really that simple, @ShineTheLight
