Reasons why the Jehovah’s Witness religion is false (Despite my love for them as human beings)

Well, ratification is a separate matter; Pope Sylvester, through his emissaries Victor and Vincentius, certainly signed on to the Creed and the rest of the canons adopted at Nicaea. No doubt he had met Sylvester from time to time when both were in Rome, but Constantine decided to call the...

Where does the Pope get his authority?

I will go to my death unable to understand how that can make any sense at all.

Most of what you say I agree with, JT. I;d push back on only two things: that Constantine was an Arian at the time of the Nicene Council (he wasn't) and that no council could be summoned without the pope (this one was).

Bending the Law to Get Trump

Are we talking Alvin Bragg? Merrick Garland? Who specifically "bent the law" to go after Trump?

Who are you referring to when you say "The Democrats" here?

I find it odd as well, but I think I can explain. In New York, falsifying business records is upgraded from misdemeanor to felony if its purpose is to further a separate crime (an "upgrade offense"). The jury needs to be unanimous on the falsification of business records, and unanimous on the...

I'll just repeat what I said in Post # 50. Trump's attorneys revealed they wanted to call an expert witness to testify on federal election law. Experts cannot testify on what the law is. That is for the judge to determine, not the jury. Such testimony was not admissible under settled New York...

To my thinking, a "rigged" trial is one that preordains the outcome by (a) a prosecutor falsifying the material evidence; (b) a Judge intentionally ignoring the rules of evidence to let in evidence favorable to the prosecution that he knows should not have been and/or excluding evidence...

You are confusing prosecutorial motivation with jury rigging. The ONLY thing I am contesting here is whether the trial was "rigged." Any poster who thinks so had better give a reason to support his or her musings.

Where does the Pope get his authority?

May I propose a slight correction? If the commandments of your church contradict what you understand to be the commandments of Jesus, you will obey Jesus. Fair?

It was LEGAL -- but not RIGHT -- to prosecute Trump? That assumes pure political motivation on the side of the New York DA. But what about political motivation on the side of Trump, who is guilty of mischaracterizing payments in order to hide what he'd done from the 2016 electorate? There's...

Moronic cases -- I've seen lots as well -- do not mean the cases were rigged or the system is corrupt. Sounds like you are describing civil rather than criminal. Anyone can bring a civil case against anyone for anything. Criminal felony cases go through a Grand Jury process first.

I am not a Trump hating liberal. I have been a Republican all my life. But I am also a lawyer, dedicated to the justice system -- and when someone claims that a trial was "rigged" or "fixed" I want to see the evidence. If these 12 jurors were manipulated or bribed or otherwise cajoled into...

Agreed, the gag order should not have been issued. But it had no effect on the evidence, or on the jury. No "rigging" here. Trump's attorneys revealed they wanted to call him as an expert witness to testify on federal election law. Experts cannot testify on what the law is. That is for the...

Not in the courtroom. I've spent my professional life in courtrooms and I've never seen it.

Well, I've been a lawyer for 45 years. I've tried lots of jury cases. A lot more than Alan has. I respect him as a constitutional law scholar -- but whether this trial was rigged is a question of fact, not of law. You think it was rigged. (Alan doesn't; at least he hasn't said so publicly.)...
