    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Sorry, the above is confusing to me. Romans 6 ... WARNING: Being under grace is NO excuse to continue to sin. WARNING: Do NOT (continue to) be slaves of sin. WARNING: BE slaves of obedience (v.16). WARNING: BE slaves of righteousness (v.19). Since these believers are slaves of sin, how could...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Here is Jesus' definition of "an overcomer" ... Rev 3:21 "To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne." Jesus overcame sin, the world, non-believers, Satan, persecution, etc. .

Absolutely true ... but Tommy can cast himself out. Ever hear of being estranged from Christ and falling from grace? (Galatians 5:4) .

The reasons for and against BACs being habitual sinners

Yes, Jesus takes our PAST sins when we are born again! “… forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.” (2 Peter 1:9, NLT) The other translations agree … old sins (NKJV, RSV) ✸ former sins (NASB, ESV) ✸ past sins (NIV, HCSB) .

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Gifts can be taken back. Grace can be fallen from. Seals can be broken. Daddy gave a gift (a car) to his son, Johnny. Daddy took the car back because of how Johnny used it. Do I have to explain what the key NT words actually mean? In the NT, the Greek indicates that “believe” is a present...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Any study of Romans 6 has to take account verse 16 (see my sig). What kind of death is Paul threatening, if you please? .

The reasons for and against BACs being habitual sinners

I guess you know this refers to habitual sin (with no repentance). The occasional sin is covered by confessing and repenting (stopping). BTW, did you have a reason for omitting the critical verse 10? .

The reasons for and against BACs being habitual sinners

Okay, so we got side-tracked into Romans 6. Now perhaps we can address the OP in this thread? .

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

FYI, Colossians was written to "the faithful" saints/brethren (1:2) ... it was NOT written to the unfaithful. Ditto to the Ephesian "faithful" (1:1). And Paul reminds even these "faithful" ones to watch out that ... they don't fall into sin! .

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

What kind of death dost thou envision here? Does Jesus go around killing believers who remain slaves to sin? NO! ... Paul is saying: Believers who are sinning habitually (i.e. without repentance) are headed for eternal death! Folks, forget what you have been deceived with ... and forget all of...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

That's NOT what the verse says! You are trying to deceive people! Do we have a wolf in sheep's clothing here, folks? And, those gifts of yours can be taken back! IF you refuse to co-operate with God's Plan of Salvation! Which is NOT only to believe, have faith, etc. The NT says it is much more...

Remain in Christ ??? Yes, of course ... but WHAT exactly is required ??? This is the whole crux of the problem !!! Believers do NOT understand WHAT is required !!! Something is required !!! ... WHAT is it ??? C'mon, let's get real !!! .

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Yup, I did go a wee bit overboard. God really does reward diligent digging with revelation. (IMO, digging in original languages is not necessary. Cannot the Spirit reveal the meaning behind English words!) Also, perhaps some get more revelation than others ... depending on the Lord's call on...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

See, you're jumping in with your false doctrine (without thinking) ... that which you've been deceived with. 6:23b doesn't say WHO gets the gift, etc. through Christ. But, the rest of the NT makes it clear. the wages of sin is death ... for everyone the gift of God is eternal life ... for...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

C'mon, man ... I've gone over every verse years ago! And what's important is NOT exegisis, but what the Spirit reveals to us! FYI, Paul was trained by Jesus Himself for 17 years in the desert places before he began his ministry to the Gentiles (Galatians 1:18, 2:1). IOW, he was told HOW to deal...
